That's a classic reaction -- in fact, I want to say that once her reaction went viral the "reaction video" niche got kicked up into high gear via Youtube.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Edwards, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I will continue to say that Rogue One works because it doesn't really mess with the OT the way the PT, ST and Solo do. The PT messes with the OT in the way everyone looks at Anakin now as for most people, Darth Vader is a whiny teenage bitch who was duped by the dark side. The ST messes with the OT in the way everyone looks at Luke differently, Han/Leia serperated and their kid is the new villain. Solo has a new actor playing Han Solo, so some fans will never recognize him in that role.

Rogue One has a fresh new cast that takes place in a GFFA and actually solves the one plot hole from 1977 in which it seemed so easy to blow up the Death Star. Sure you have Vader, Tarkin, and even Leia, but their roles don't really change anything from the OT (many will say Vader's Rogue One scene enhances his character compared to the PT). THIS is what Disney should have done with the franchise is give us new characters in a GFFA and don't mess with the OT character too much.

Let's be honest though, that was never gonna happen. It was way more profitable for Disney to milk the series by banking on nostalgia and recognizable characters, rather than trying to introduce a whole new 'universe' if you want to call it that.

Hell, The Force Awakens was basically "Fan Service: The Movie".

That girl’s reaction is pretty much how I felt opening day. I was less demonstrative, but that is nevertheless a very satisfying ending.

The ending is the only good part of the movie. The rest is a snooze fest.

I agree with many that this is the best of the Disney-era movies. And I know this will make me a hypocrite (considering my loathing of the shit Lucas did), but I hope that as technology improves they go back and tweak Tarkin and Leia to look more realistic. They’re just way too uncanny valley, and that will be the only aspect of the movie that will age poorly.

Not sure where I saw it, but I read a report just the other day that Disney had gone back and fixed the Jeff Bridges CGI in Tron Legacy to where it looks absolutely flawless.
I might find myself rebuying this on 4K if they did the same.

And that girl's reaction is a great reminder of what it's like to just enjoy Star Wars without all the drama. I still watch that from time to time to remind me how to love Star Wars without reserve.

what do you mean "all the drama"? this was mostly a drama with some great action scenes...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Edwards, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I think he meant external fanboy drama.

FWIW I watched this again back in August or September, which means I've watched it at least once a year since it came out. I NEVER do that anymore. I ruined Batman Begins by watching that three or four times in a two year period back in 2008 and haven't any desire to view it since.
But watching that reaction video, which I'd never seen before, makes me want to watch this again tonight. I love this film, and it's characters, more with each viewing.
At this point, if I could only keep one SW film in my collection, it would be this one. No question.

I always watched Batman Begins and Casino Royale multiple times in years span. They are so rewatchable...

I’d be interested to know which parts. I watched it yesterday and it still looks bad.

It's not clear if the new Tron: Legacy is available yet. A film editor tweeted that he got to see a sneak peak of it

TRON Legacy remastered to 4K UHD and with improved de-aging CGI ? Plan8
Los Angeles based film editor ‘The Vahn Man’ has tweeted that a version of TRON Legacy supposedly exists, which has been upscaled to 4K UHD resolution that is also in 3-D.

But more interesting is news that the notorious de-aging CGI effects used on actor Jeff Bridges have also been updated. Bridges reprised his role as Kevin Flynn in Tron Legacy that called for flashbacks as well as a villain of the movie the digital doppelganger named CLU. The tweets state that there is no more “uncanny valley” look for CLU. And that he apparently now looks “normal”, and much more human.

@ImAFilmEditor
I can’t believe I got to experience a ‘4K UHD-IMAX-Dolby Vision’ presentation of “#TronLegacy”. I’m not even kidding when I say it’s probably the best High-Definition ‘Home Video’ presentation I have ever seen. It even had a 3D option, if one wanted to view the #Film in that way.

@ImAFilmEditor
One thing I'll reveal that I didn't mention in my review is this.

C.L.U's VFX have been updated. He no longer looks like "Uncanny Valley"; instead almost human. That's this presentations biggest and well deserved achievement. I've shown a few trusted sources a still. Incredible! https://twitter.com/ImAFilmEditor/st...59640759316480 …

Is there a way for us to buy it?

No unfortunately. I was shown by a filmmaker and collaborator colleague of mine.
It sounds like maybe it's a version prepped for a UHD/3D Blu-ray re-release?

Awesome. I hope they release it on Blu-ray and not just be a 4K exclusive.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Edwards, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (3D)...exceptional this time around. absolutely exceptional. in 3D even Tarkin and Leia looked better than when i saw in theater. certainly the bleakest of the SW movies, but absolutely ranks up there with OT. a perfect prequel. just perfect. i was enthralled much more so than my first viewings. i'm killing myself that i gave this 3 stars originally. there is no way this is 3 stars. Edwards made this look like the OT. Even Lucas couldn't do that with the PT. this was dirty and fit in beautifully with the OT which i will begin again tomorrow night.

this movie deserves another look if anyone felt it wasn't up to SW par the first or even second time. just an amazing, SW adventure that sets up the next 6 beautifully.

The OT is only reserved for , but this is absolutely 4.5. my original 3? no way in hell!!!

I liked it a lot the first time I saw it in the theater but every time I’ve watched it I fall more madly and deeply in love with it.

My only complaint with this movie is that they didn't let Donnie Yen go all out and destroy everyone Ip Man-movie style. They held his skills back.

Other than that, fantastic film.

I would have liked for his ending to play out a little differently as well. After chanting about the Force the entire movie, I think it would have been nice for him to use it at the very end. I think it would have worked better if he was shot down while making his way to the lever and used the Force to pull it down just before he dies.

Just a small detail but i think it would have been a lot better.

Awesome movie overall, though. K2SO is my favorite droid in the entire franchise!

I have to totally disagree. I liked that it shows you don't have to be a space wizard to be a believer and that the Force is much more than parlor tricks. I felt that it was a nice allegory for modern-day, humble faith.

I guess I can see that point but in the movies we KNOW the Force is real, not really any need to show humble faith. The sequel trilogy also pounded us over the heads with the fact that you don’t have to be a space wizard to use the force. Anyone in that universe can be Force sensitive.

I think it would have worked to show someone who had faith in the Force actually see that his faith paid off just prior to dying.

I didn’t care for this too much the first time I saw it in theatres. But, after rewatching it and also seeing what ended up being the ST, this is easily the best of the Disney era movies.

My only real complaint is the lack of character development for some of the side characters. I’ve seen this three times and I still don’t remember the names outside of Jyn, Cassian, K-2, and Saw. Knowing the outcome of the movie, it’s understandable though I suppose.

I know everyone on this forum is allergic to long-form video essays, but this one on Rogue One, clocking in at 51 minutes, is quite good, in my opinion. I loved the film long before I saw this, but it helps to articulate some of those thoughts.

Chirrut was using the Force, that's how he walked over to the control panel without getting shot. Everything about his character and his presence in the Force is about how simple it is. He doesn't have a lightsaber, all of the things he does could *possibly* be done by somebody without the Force, but as a highly skilled blind warrior.

Anything flashier wouldn't have worked for his character.

I feel roughly the same way, although imo it's the second best Disney Star Wars film (TLJ above all by a country parsec). I was pretty meh on RS after seeing it in theaters, but it's grown on me quite a bit.

I wish they'd have used a lighter touch with Vader. It would've been great if the first time we saw him in the entire movie was when he ignited his lightsaber in the dark corridor of the ship. What a holy shit moment that would've been.
