It's down over 60 percent so far...looks like a 5th place finish.

mod note - If you really want to both be suspended, we can do that. I'd prefer it if you both just discussed the topic of the thread. Thanks.

No, no, no. We want pictures to determine guilt. (it's a self-degrading joke against Otters, please don't read it any other way)

It is possible, but I have seen some revised projections since the Friday estimate was released, now saying a 54-55% drop is expected.

And, as Shannon Nutt said, it could drop to 5th place this weekend. That isn't an indicator of the legs many pundits were predicting for a Feig film.

It'll be interesting to see tomorrow's actuals. Right now it's tied for 3rd at $21.6m (-53%) with Lights Out and just a hair above Ice Age at $21m.

Come tomorrow it could be in 3rd, 4th or 5th. Placing really doesn't mean anything but its a good reminder that Sunday numbers are estimates.

I can't help but notice it has the lowest estimated Sunday drop (21% vs 24% for most) not sure why that is...

All in all, headed for the 125m mark...a decent domestic showing. Unfortunately the news may not be so great internationally...good chance it doesn't match. (much less make significantly more)

The international release seems weird, it didn't really add a lot of territories this weekend (no major ones), isn't being released in China, isn't out in Russia or Japan yet and has no date for South Korea.

Fwiw, Jack and Jill (Sandler) also fell 53% in its second weekend, as did Disney's Frozen.

Please don't compare Ghostbusters 2016 to Jack and Jill

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

Ice Age underperforming (and deservingly so if the reviews are accurate) probably helped Ghostbusters this weekend. It did a little better than I thought it would, so Sony can't be too unhappy with its second weekend, which is roughly half what it did the first weekend. It finished in the top 3, which is still impressive.

Better yet, don't anyone even bring Jack and Jill up ever again.

I didn't even see any trailers for Ice Age so I'm not surprised. The franchise probably should have gone the Land Before Time route and stuck to home video.

Now, I can only imagine the Sony offices if they get beat by a film that got made for 5 million dollars.

Probably the same thing that happened when My Big Fat Greek Wedding made $110m (final domestic) more than a Spielberg/Cruise team up.

I love when it happens too. Too many all or nothing big budget movies anymore. I love seeing cheaper films, especially horror, make huge numbers.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

Saw it today and loved it. In some ways, more than the original (and in just about every way, more than Ghostbusters 2). I thought it was very respectful toward the original cast, and provided a very entertaining spin on the concept behind the franchise. And it made me a fan of Leslie Jones, whose work on SNL generally doesn't float my boat -- I thought she was great in this.

And for you misogynists, Chris Hemsworth steals just about every scene he's in, so it's still all dude-filled.

Awful. I knew the story would be stupid but I at least expected a few laughs, and there were not many. Thor was funny and Kate McKinnon was anything but.

I didn't see any man-bashing thing going on. People need to lighten the hell up.

You didn't see any man-bashing in a film where every male character is either an airhead or completely unlikable? Feig didn't even TRY to make a halfway decent male character.

Who cares. Some of the women were unlikable also. Besides, the only male that had a prominent role was the receptionist and he was the best character in the film, idiot or not.

Does the new Ghostbusters have a scene like this?

^ Nope, nothing in the movie that would have given it any actual depth or subtext.

Plus, no memorable funny lines (i.e. "Aim for the flat top!")

^^

On the plus side, I heard there was a queefing joke and a fart joke, so that makes up for it, right?

Ended up in 5th with the actuals, behind Ice Age and Lights Out.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

I saw it this last weekend with my son. I thought that this was a great follow up. It was like someone wrote a script treatment from the first and gave it to a writer who had never seen the original. It didn't follow beat for beat, which I liked, and went in very different ways at times. Never seen Leslie Jones before, but her entire interaction with the mannequin/s had me laughing hysterically.

Not really a fan of Melissa McCarthy, but I thought that her character showed more restraint than I normally expect from her, which I enjoyed. The wonton gag was amusing. Didn't care as much for the physical comedy with the new equipment testing in the alley.

My favorite of the new 4 was Kate McKinnon, my son said the same thing. She was also the furthest from one of the original 4. I'm guessing that she was supposed to be Egon-like, but she departed from that a lot. And I thought to great effect.

Chris Hemsworth had some great scenes. I personally enjoyed the phone in the fish tank deadpan delivery a lot. I'm glad that I saw it in theaters instead of waiting.

I just went to this last night with a group of 8 guys ... everyone enjoyed it, a few even loved it. I thought it was fun. Don't understand where all the hate is coming from.

For some it's too similar while not being similar enough to the original, for others they just didn't like it.

I mean, it's the internet, people love to bitch on this thing. It's like if it weren't for work, amazon and piracy the only thing it'd be used for it complaining and porn.
