That was pretty damn cool to see. Thank you.

But I think in the end the marriage of both pop songs and a great traditional score is all part of the alchemy that made the film so great. If it were all pop songs it would be dreadful. If it were all score I think it would be slightly less than the finished product we got. The pop songs dot the "i" perfectly on several of the film's best turns of events.

It's a shame because I thought their cover of "Beat It" was really good and thought they could do the same with Ghostbusters.

Oh well, doesn't change my opinion of the film and my likeliness to see it in the theater.

Just wanted to say that the greatest joke and delivery in all of cinema is "You're right, no human being would stack books like this." So fucking dry.... so hilarious.

The greatest facial reaction ever is the look Venkman gives on the world of the psychic show when the girl says a martian used a ray or mind control device to get her to go to his hotel room and thats when he told her about the end of the world.

No guys, the old movies aren't very good, anymore; because there's a new movie coming out, soon.

I never said that. Ghostbusters is my favorite movie. It's just bullshit to freak out over perceived flaws in the new movie when the same flaws are given a pass in the older movies. It's a big problem in Star Wars fandom too.

And Ghostbusters II hasn't been a very good movie for 27 years.

Edit:

Re: the soundtrack issue: I actually listened to it in full yesterday after ripping on it so hard. I doubt half the people defending the music have ever heard it outside of the movie, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is:

I challenge anyone who disagrees with my opinion of the soundtrack to listen to the whole thing and defend it as a collection of quality music.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

I'm not going to argue that a movie is good or bad solely based on its soundtrack. What I will say iss this: choosing to use "of the day" music and "flavor of the month" performers is often indicative of the sensibilities used in making a film. If the movie is a period piece, that works. It may just be me, but I see it as "do I use what's cool today for a cash grab, or do I make something timeless and classic?"

On the flip side, there are countless examples of soundtracks filled with music that never appears in the film.

I've owned the soundtrack to the first film on cassette and CD. I'm very familiar with it. There's great stuff on there.

It was one of my first tapes as well. I gave it a listen a few months back and the BusBoys' Cleanin up the Town stands out as the biggest pile on that soundtrack. Were they a real band?

The group is best known for their appearance in the 1982 film 48 Hrs., in which they performed their songs "New Shoes" and "The Boys Are Back in Town" (the latter song is also heard during the closing credits). The band opened for the film's costar, comedian Eddie Murphy, during his subsequent Delirious standup comedy tour—during which he referred to them throughout the program—including an hour-long special that aired on HBO. On January 29, 1983, the BusBoys were also musical guests on an episode of Saturday Night Live with Murphy singing background vocals for the band.
They are a real band that's been around for decades, but their peak was definitely '82-'85 when they collaborated extensively with Eddie Murphy, Saturday Night Live, and its associated personnel. Great song in my opinion. I don't hear anything not to like.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

The most shocking thing in this thread is anyone implying The Bus Boys weren't a real band. They'd fuck anything that moved, according to Eddie Murphy.

Second most shocking thing? People listened to the entire Ghostbusters soundtrack. I think we had the 45 back in the day...

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

Pop music in movies is always a funny thing to me since I tend to think criticism of it now mostly stems from people who just happen to not like modern music in general because of age differences now, and thinking it was better when they were younger.

I remember the BusBoys' album cover for Minimum Wage. Even if you're not into the group, how can anyone not like "The Boys Are Back in Town?"

For some reason I thought "The Boys are Back in Town" was Don Henley but then I realized I was mixing it up with "The Boys of Summer".

"The Boys Are Back In Town" was Thin Lizzy.

Sorry, but every Busboys song I've listened to sounds like rejected The Return of Bruno b-sides.

Ok, things are getting obscure. I had to Google the Return of Bruno.
