Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
So the best non-holiday Monday of all time. I guess technically Dec. 21 isn't a holiday, but it might as well be. I would even go as far as to say that there's more people out of work and out of school that day than there is on Presidents' Day.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
So by the end of today (Tuesday) it should cross the $400M mark and the $500M by Friday. By the end of the weekend it will be at around $630M surpassing the original Marvel Avengers movie at #7 on the all time box office domestic gross. TFA got to $500M in 10 days, AEG will only take 8. I don't see any data for fastest to $600M or beyond, but I'm sure they are all from TFA. AEG should hit $600M in the same time it took TFA to get to $500M. So they've right now got a two day head start on TFA. AEG will have more competion than TFA had during it's December run, but I'd imagine the Avengers will be at or about $800M by the end of their 3rd weekend.

It's definitely going over 2B sooner, rather than later. Hard to gauge how much repeat business it will get later in May/early June when the tent pole films start coming out. We'll see.
While not a huge amount Captain Marvel made more than double what Shazaam made on Monday. I'll assume enough viewers were interested by what they saw of her during Endgame and went to see it. That's a crazy return to the number two spot.

Sooo TFA The First Avenger or The Force Awakens?
And posting here since I can't go to the Endgame thread... first time I felt I had to get to the movies to not get spoiled, but I just got over a bad cold and just gave it to infant and husband (and mom though she doesn't live with us) so I don't see a trip to the movies anytime soon.

The Force Awakens. The current King of the domestic Box Office.
The First Avenger is the title of the first Captain America which did only so-so business at the Box Office (and was outgrossed by Day 2).

Avengers: Endgame‘s chalked up an estimated $33.4M yesterday, which is the best Tuesday result for any Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe release, besting last year’s Avengers: Infinity War ($23.4M).
$427.38M total so far

So it made more on a Tuesday than Hellboy has in its entire run so far

Much less $33 million. I think they did make $33 dollars though. So good on them. Marshall should have an easy green light on his next project.

$137m - $177m expected for Endgame this weekend. TFA had $149.2m (Holiday Weekend), Infinity War had $114.8m.
It's expected to fall 72% Friday-to-Friday to $44m for today -- that's a 55% drop when you discount Thursday showings.

Yep, it did very well. Lagged TFA, but not by much considering it is essentially a regular week vs. holiday period. I mean, Endgame pulled $44m on a "regular" Friday, TFA did $49m on Christmas, one of the biggest movie going days of the year.

It’s a shame Endgame only gets to hold all the records for a week before Detective Pikachu smashes them all again.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
And The Force Awakens made just over $2 billion in its entire run. So I’ll go out on a limb and call it and say it’s going to get knocked down a place.
And $2.7+ billion seems realistic at this point, taking down Avatar.

Damn, the budget was $356 million? That has to be one of the most expensive movies ever made. With everyone involved I'm sure salaries are half of that.

I saw today that it's estimated Hellboy lost roughly $84M for Lionsgate. Massive Massive flop. That's how jobs are lost.

I honestly don't know what they were thinking by making that movie. I could see giving it another go with tempered expectations for a Hellboy III, but a reboot made no sense.
