Damn. Aunt May for sure is a GILF in this one. She was younger than Sally Fields was in ASM, yes? I can't remember Fields age or even know Tomei's...

Wikipedia says Sally Fields is 68, so she would have been 65 in ASM. Wikipedia says Marisa Tomei is 50.

Rosemary Harris ~75
Sally Fields ~66
Marisa Tomei (assuming MCU Spidey comes out in 2016) ~52

Hopefully after Uncle Ben is killed, Aunt May has to turn to stripping to pay the bills.

I was almost as close to my grandmother's sister as I was to my mom's sister when I was a kid. So the idea of a 60/70 yr old aunt was never out of line to me.
I love Tomei, but that casting is going to take a strenuous amount of acclimating for me. I do hope they try to age her up (instead of down). The other problem I have is that even beyond the age thing, she doesn't strike me as especially vulnerable which is the way I've always seen the character. She's innately brassy and tough which is the antithesis of May Parker to me. Even younger, if she were borderline anorexic you would at least have some visual frailty there. But Tomei is attractive for her age and healthy looking.
Marvel has been generally spot on, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but this will take some time to wrap my head around.

Weak women, as classic Aunt May from the 1960s to the 1990s, aren't exactly all that appealing to have as characters anymore. Shit. Is the aunt age even that much of a difference anymore? That's one thing I tired of really fast. Raimi's love for such an old Spider-Man environment. It's hard to relate in the modern. ASM's spidey didn't do much for her either. She was just a weakly written character.
I trust Marvel. I don't get their decisions but they've done well w/ casting. Their writing/directing/editing is more of an issue w/ me at times.

Making her younger and healthier pretty much throws that whole dynamic out the window. And that throws me. It just doesn't seem like you can have the same Peter Parker without some of that element to his life.
But I'm not getting the pitchfork out of the garage just yet. I have my doubts, but I will keep them in check to see what they do with it first.

Her age in the comics never really made sense. Richard and Ben were supposed to be about 6-8 years apart. If May And Ben were the same age 75-80. That would put Richard at 67-72 if he were alive during AF #15. He would have been 51-56 when Peter was born, so Mary Parker would need to be significantly younger than him.

Yeah. She was a bit too fucking old in the comics for me too. This is coming where for me... my aunts and uncles were like 15-20 years older than me.

Ultimate Spider-Man (current Disney XD cartoon) lists Aunt May in her "late 40s"
Ultimate Spider-Man (Earth 1610-the Ultimate-verse) lists "in her 50s"
Aunt May (Earth 616- The core Marvel Universe) does not list a specific age for her, as she is as old as the story requires.
I have no problem with a younger Aunt May, it would stand to reason if Peter is still very young she would also be younger.

They're totally missing their opportunity to bring Helen Mirren into the MCU.

Denis Leary talks about what was planned for ASM 3
Leary said in an interview that the third Amazing Spider-Man movie would have Spider-Man develop a formula to revive his dead loved ones. Leary says Captain Stacy would have come back "even bigger" in the movie.

The stuff about bringing people back from the dead sounds pretty stupid. Wouldn't have minded seeing a better attempt at Venom but I don't think Webb and company would have brought us anything spectacular.

I agree resurrecting dead characters is stupid, but it's not like it is an uncommon plot device in comic books. It's believable that a comic book movie would go there. Heck, the DOFP movie resurrected tons of dead characters...
