Spider-Man: Homecoming (MCU reboot) (7/7/2017 - D: Jon Watts) S: Tom Holland
Ok so it was announced today that Sony says fuck you to the haters that want them to give the franchise back to Marvel/Disney...

The move sets the course for the marquee superhero franchise for the next five years. The threequel had been mentioned, but never a fourth film.
The Amazing-Spider Man 2, returning Andrew Garfield in the role of Peter Parker, is currently in production in New York and rolls out in theaters May 2, 2014.
Sony vice chairman Jeff Blake said in announcing and dating the two films: “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
In 2012, Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office.
The announcement came in the wake of the successful opening of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Man of Steel, which appears to have successfully resurrected the marquee Superman franchise.

I mostly wonder what classic Spider-Man villain they'll take next and try to make look as visually lame as they possibly can.

Hmmm, the producers and writers of Fringe. Interesting choice.

Ru roh!
Ain’t It Cool News claims that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back from its original date of June 10, 2016 to 2017. Mark Webb is still attached to direct the third outing of the web-slinger. There are several reasons as to why this could have happened though, first one being that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did not get the response that Sony may have hoped it would receive. And there are also reports that Marc Webb could be working on another film for Fox. Could that be what is impeding on TASM 3? Sony even stated a while back, "We are expanding the universe so that we have 'Spider-Man' movies every year,". Only time will tell us what's happening and if these reports are true.

Why bother waiting for Webb? Just reboot it again in time for the original 2016 slot.

Given how Spidey 2 slightly underperformed (although it's still going to wind up making, what, three-quarters of a billion worldwide?) they may be rethinking the next film. I wonder if they'll follow Warners' strategy and find someone Spidey can team up with in the next movie. What other superheroes does Sony have access to?

They should replace Webb but where can they find another director with spider-themed name?

It's not so much the director, but Sony doesn't have someone to keep things in check like a Kevin Feige does. I still believe that had one of the executives looked at the film, ASM2 could have been salvaged into a tight 2 hour film that got an extra showing per day.
Although, at a recent Q&A with James Cameron, he said Spidey was one of those things that he regret letting go of. Granted he originally had the organic shooter concept, but I couldn't imagine how much money a Spider-man film would make if his name were attached as director.

^ You forget Morbius who could also go either way and fits into the whole disease angle.

If it does get pushed back, I wonder if Captain America 3 or Batman v Superman moves into that June 10 spot.

It was probably their intent to re-cast, but they might retain her if they still have her under contract, now that she's sort of becoming an it girl.

What's interesting is Rob Liefeld's guess that Sony will want to partner with Marvel to incorporate it into the MCU because of their hesitance in doing more Spider Man movies since each one has made less than the last.

My guess is they are going to do one more desperate reboot with the Sinister Six (Venom, Doc Ock, Sandman, Hobgoblin, Lizard, and the Vulture). It will probably end up making a final total of $180~175million domestic. After that, they will probably be more open to negotiating with Marvel to sell back the character rights.
