I still liked Predators more than Prometheus. I'm quite interested to see what Black does with the franchise.

Yeah. Christmas. I want to see great Predator imagery in snow. We've gotten him in the snow.. but never looking good. God... I have those AvP flicks.
And it's awesome that Fox is letting Black do it on his terms. And apparently like a prestige picture too. they'll put as much money as Black wants cuz they trust him. Which is great. Not to say Black will do a huge as fuck film he can but he'll be respectful w/ the budget too.

The mistletoe scene is going to be gruesome!
Absolutely. Predators is a decent, watchable film that does no disservice to the franchise (and it's better than Predator 2, which I enjoy but is definitely the weakest of the main franchise films [but significantly stronger than either AvP movie]). Prometheus is an embarrassment to everyone involved, except Fassbender who managed to somehow polish a turd.

Predators was the Prometheus of this franchise. Both equally bad. But since Prometheus had a lot more scenes that had a better look, Prometheus is better. Predators has absolutely no look to it.
And I just can't accept Predators being better than Predator 2, at least that was fun. And had Gary Busey to add to the crazy.

That's silly. Prometheus shot for the Stars and wound up in the gutter thanks to a terrible script. Predators was less ambitious, but all we ever wanted from these franchises were new entries that were suspenseful, exciting, and didn't insult our intelligence or water down the concept of the original film(s). Prometheus was pretentious, but ultimately muddled the backstory of the Alien Universe, and featured poorly written characters. Predators was an entertaining flick that featured a lot of Predator action. It may have borrowed a bit too heavily from the original film, but it did try to expand on the universe and didn't have nearly as many dumb moments as Prometheus.

Predators is a perfectly functional sci-fi action flick. You get the thrills, spills, and violence. You expect. It isn't more than that, it's derivative as hell, but for what it is-essentially an expensive but modestly unpretentious B-movie-it's perfectly enjoyable, and frequently quite fun. Antal's compositional eye is decent, the action scenes are good, and there are some cool-looking monsters.

Predators was ok. The problem for me was trying to suspend belief that Adrian Brody could be a tough guy. I felt he was totally miscast in that movie. One of the reasons the first movie is still so damn strong is the cast was superb. Bunch of beefy muscled up guys with serious fire power. It felt like a bad ass squad that had operated together for some time. Whilst the idea of taking different characters from life and sticking them together for Predators was cool, they just cast a lot of people that felt wrong for the roles.
I think Shane Black will bring a cool action movie with this. I am very curious to see the setting for the movie. That usually plays a big part in the entertainment value of this series.

I think Shane Black needs to be writing/directing more movies, like Takashi Miike numbers.

re: The Predator (2018 -- w/d: Shane Black)
The Predator is set to shoot later this year for a 2018 release date, so when Black stopped by the IGN office, we asked how the project was progressing, where it sits in the Predator time-line, and whether or not there will a role for the man who will soon be collaborating with Black on Doc Savage…
IGN: Where are you at with The Predator?
Shane Black: The train is rolling I should say. I think it's pretty clear now that this is the next thing I'm gonna do, is work on that. We're having a lot of fun. The idea is to take what has been a series of kind of modest knock-off type movies which all made a guaranteed return. Not bad movies but certainly not on the level of what Ridley [Scott] was doing with Alien and then Prometheus and now this very much lauded prequel/sequel coming up. How can I follow in the footsteps of someone who re-invents and brings that much event-ised quality to a pulp franchise. How do you get people to know about the Predator and buy their tickets a month before it comes out as opposed to just 'What are you seeing tonight? We can see a comedy or... oh, there's a new Predator.' No, no, this one we want to make people aware of - we've paid a lot of attention, there's even some more money spent.
Black continues: We're going to get a great cast and we really just write it and write and and write it - just keep writing it to make it as interesting and stuffed with ideas as we can and hopefully to re-infuse it with a sense of mystery. The worst thing you could hope for in one of these is a shot in bright sunlight of a field and the Predator just kind of walks on and 'hello' - you want to do... I keep going back to Ridley Scott, the way he captured the alien in that first movie. The sense of mystery and portent. If we could just cut into a little piece of that - that sort of vibe - and then I think there's humour to be had too. And tonal shifting. I'm just having a ball. I'm getting more excited by the day, 30 years later working on this damn thing. Who would have thought when we started out and they were saying 'Geez the costume doesn't work - throw this back to Winston and let him save the day!" Eight weeks later "I don't know, looks like dreadlocks to me!" Suddenly it's the most iconic costume ever. It's the most iconic movie ever. It's lasted 30 years and here I am god blessedly making a... it's just unbelievable to me.
IGN: I think you've said that the film will live in the same world as Predator 2 - will Predators exist in this universe?
Black: Well it seems to me if we set ours in 2018 which is when the film is set, then we can only be a prequel to that one, so you could say yes it exists, but people won't be discussing it really.
IGN: It's kind of irrelevant at this point.
Black: It's in the midst of the mythology. It's a movie that's set in our present-day. Or maybe the day after tomorrow.
IGN: Dwayne Johnson recently posted a picture on Instagram and stated he was reading an outline for something he was making with you - is that Doc Savage?
Black: I enlarged the screen to see the iPad and I believe it was. I wasn't sure but I think it is.
IGN: So we're not going to see Dwayne fighting a Predator?
Black: Oh! Um, well look, I'm meeting with him in a couple of weeks. Who knows?
IGN: If you could make that happen I'm buying my ticket now.
Black: OK - anything can happen in this crazy genre world.

Huh. That did not excite me. It sounded like a Trump speech ...
We love the Predators! We love the Predators! We're going to get that script for The Predator! Yes we will! We will get a script and write a script and then write the script again until we get that script. We love the Predator! And the Alien - except for the illegal ones! We love the Alien and that's what we are going to do! We're going to do the Alien, but for the Predator - who we love!
Dwayne Johnson? [appears as if he has never heard of him]
Oh yes, we love Dwayne Johnson! We are working on several projects with him! We love him so much we are going to get him into about a hundred films this year. We are working on getting him into a movie with The Rock. Won't that be great? We love The Rock almost as much as we love the Predator!

^ yeah. I checked out when he called Predator "the most iconic movie ever".
Hopefully when the new Predator movie is released we'll actually be able to see the footage beyond all of Black's jizz dripping down the camera lens.

Nobody is going to buy a ticket to a Predator movie a month in advance. What a delusional dipshit.

Black is a good writer and a decent director, so I'm going to give him a pass on those above statements.

re: The Predator (2018 -- w/d: Shane Black)
Fox does seem to want to make this a tentpole kind of thing. And are giving Black full freedom on it pretty much. It could happen.
I'm confused. How is Predators further in the timeline than Black's film? Wasn't that one set in modern day in it's release timeframe? Either way.. it's a sequel set off world... unless for some reason a Predator mentions something alluding to that hunt or we go back to game world...I don't see how that could even be brought up. It's so on the side cuz it's off world.
So we saw Christmas in The Nice Guys... I fucking want to see Christmas in this too. And if we can get a Predator that looks badass in the snow in the woods.. that'd be great. Fuck. I hated everything about those AvP films. So unimaginative in it's execution. Neat concepts to a degree but the execution was shit.

Ironic that the Collector is in a Predator movie.
