Looks like TIFF nabbed the world premiere of this for their Midnight Madness program. Now to see if I can score tickets. Despite all the differing opinions/expectations, I have no doubt it'll be a hot item there, regardless of how it turned out.

I finished reading the prequel novel and it was badass. It was brutally violent and the kills were awesome. Here's hoping the film keeps that brutal tone.

AvP Podcast had an interview with the author. He seemed very respectful of the property. They didn’t go into the book itself so much, but the process around it. Pretty interesting!

They would have to neuter it then. There are Redband trailers that clearly show this was done as an R rated movie. And Shane Black said it would be R. Maybe they're having trouble getting it an R from NC-17 for violence.

ALIEN PREDATOR is The Mockbuster The Asylum Made for THE PREDATOR
ALIEN PREDATOR is The Mockbuster The Asylum Made for THE PREDATOR
I must confess that I’m a little disappointed the upcoming Asylum mockbuster Alien Predator isn’t titled The Alien Predator; or, if they really wanted to be snarky about it, An Alien Predator. That would be taking things to the next level.
“A black ops reconnaissance team is sent to investigate the crash of an unidentified aircraft. When they arrive, they find strange markings and residue visible only in infrared. As the team gets deeper in and tries to figure out the source of the markings, they discover that they are being hunted by an alien expedition to Earth.”
That plot sure does sound an awful lot like the basic starting point for the plot of The Predator.
According to director Jared Cohn (Atlantic Rim: ResurrectionThe Horde), they were shooting for more of a Predator 2 vibe and worked to put their own distinct stamp on the familiar premise. Cohn also promises a “really cool looking” creature that laser blasts, blows up, and kills people in a variety of different bad ass ways.
Cohn directs from a script by Bill Hanstock (3-Headed Shark Attack), while actors Xavi Israel, Alex West, Philip Nathaniel, Amanda Rivas, Sebastien Charmant, and Kris Black are amongst the potential prey for the extraterrestrial stalker.
Alien Predator begins hunting for confused viewers on DVD/VOD on September 11th; just a few days prior to the September 14th big screen release of The Predator. A trailer is supposed to be coming soon. Better be real soon given we’re only about three weeks from the release date.

Nice....gave away the best bits I'm sure. I'm not sure if the Shane Black humor lines will go over well in something like this. Eh, what does it matter, I'm watching this either way to wash away the shit taste of Predators.

I think watching these films like watching a Godzilla movie is the best bet. Watch for the Predator(s) because THEY will never disappoint. If anything else turns up good it's just a bonus.

I got tickets to the second screening of this at TIFF (somewhat against my better judgment as I generally avoid obvious "big" movies with guaranteed upcoming theatrical releases). The first showing was a double-price "premium" thing which NO film is worth, but since the second one is the very next day hopefully the director and whomever else is in attendance will stick around to at least justify the likewise inflated price of a regular ticket.

Same here. I’m back to feeling iffy on this movie after that final trailer. The second one a month or so back was badass so I’m hoping for more of that in the film. The comedy and the song playing in this one didn’t work for me.

looked pretty awesome to me. Predator meets the Dirty Dozen... plus I love seeing Sterling K Brown, a phenomenal actor, in something not so dour and sanctimonious as "This is Us".

That's why I went Trailer Dark after the first one was released.
I want to be surprised.
Stupid Question:
Do you think this novel will give the movie away?

Striegel was cast previously cast in Black’s 2013 film, “Iron Man 3” and in 2016’s “The Nice Guys.” Black defended his decision to cast Striegel in “The Predator,” telling the L.A. Times, “I personally chose to help a friend. I can understand others might disapprove, as his conviction was on a sensitive charge and not to be taken lightly.”
Munn told the newspaper that she found it “both surprising and unsettling” that Black did not share this information to the cast, crew, or Fox Studios prior to, during, or after production. She also said, “However, I am relieved that when Fox finally did receive the information, the studio took appropriate action by deleting the scene featuring Wilder prior to release of the film.”
