Seems pretty odd that they're suddenly changing course and splitting the film into two parts if that is the case. I thought the back to back filming was for Batman V Superman and the Justice League film.

It really makes a lot of sense for them to do this. If true, expect confirmation soon. Especially if we're going to be getting a trailer in the coming weeks. The marketing machine will begin.

If true, will just make 2015 even a better year for franchise films...

Given the amount of characters to be included, this makes the most sense. Essentially a 2-part origin for the Justice League with Batman and Superman as the leads.

It could either be good or a sign of trouble if you ask me. It seems like pretty poor planning to suddenly change what was to be one film into two. I'm guessing they realized for everything in this film that one film would just be too bloated. My question is do they just have too much material and are splitting it into two parts or did they decide to split the film and had to re-draft the script to make two parts work properly. If the latter is the case then I'm skeptical.

This sums up my feelings.

I still have absolutely no expectations for anything in the DCCU, but I'd certainly prefer this broken up if this thing is so super-stuffed to begin with. Sitting through bloated movies with nearly 3 hour runtimes seems to be the norm nowadays and it's not my preference.

You're assuming that they didn't plan this all along. We were all scratching our heads as to why a movie shot last year wasn't coming out until 2016 - it didn't make much sense. Plus the shoot was super long, which should have signaled two movies - we just chocked it up to them over-bloating the story.

Hey, it wasn't just women, they hated all minorities in the 90/00s too.

It's telling that Timm and co. had to kinda stretch to introduce a second woman and a black man into their Justice League to give them some kind of diversity.

Sorry but I'm inclined to believe that's not the case. They just mentioned it now so either their marketing team is terrible or this is a recent decision. Even if they came out and said this was the plan all along I wouldn't believe them. This film and the entire DC Film Universe has come across as a hodge pudge of poor planning all this time and I have a hard time believing this was the plan all along and they neglected to mention it until now.

Justice League is a two-part movie as well. About a month or so before Marvel announced all their Phase 3 movies, DC announced all their movies through 2020.

List of DC Cinematic Universe movies through 2020:

I suspect that DC was planning Dawn of Justice as a two-parter all along. It doesn't make sense why they wouldn't have said so though. I mean they announced a standalone Cyborg movie. So why not announce this?

Animated movies get theatrical releases too.
It's not going to be an animated movie.

This is a pretty interesting idea though. I'm assuming part one will be a Batman movie, and part two will be a Superman movie. Honestly splitting them up in my opinion is pretty genius.

Unless the first part isn't well received. If part one lands with a flop then that will probably officially spell the end of a DC movie universe.

I don't think there is any chance of it flopping, especially if it is Batman-centric.

Yeah...this won't flop. Don't be dumb fuck about it, guys. It's Batman, he's coming off the wildly successful Nolan trilogy. People love him more than ever. Now... if it trailers REALLY REALLY make this look horrible... there's a chance that could make some small dent. But... it's Batman. He's pretty fucking popular. As an image in iconography, he's probably more popular than that white Jesus some of you love.

Sounds good to me, but yeah there's no way they planned it this way otherwise it would have been a part of all the other announcements a few months back. Keeping it a secret does nothing to help them. I'm iffy on whether they can make it work, and part of me also thinks they're just trying to capitalize on splitting a movie in 2 for more money, but I'm optimistic it's a smart move given all the characters and if they're able to use the extra time to establish the DCU better.

Makes sense for them to split it into two. Of course you'd want one film that ends with Bruce pummeling the superpowered alien to get the Nolanites in the theater. Then you can have them be friends in the Justice League Lite movie.

It will make bank, for sure, but it could still suck, and if it does, that's gonna be a major hit to DC's franchise. This particular move doesn't make that any more or less likely though. It would be the same deal if it was one movie. Even if the second movie took a hit because of reaction to the first one, it still likely sells a lot more tickets as two movies than it does as one.

I never said anything about it flopping. Whether or not I think the film (or films) will be good or not is another story entirely.

I hope the movie takes cues from a recent Batman comic book.

Recent comic spoilers:

Spoiler:
Batman has miniature red suns inside his gauntlets and pummels Superman with them. Then Superman gets Batman in a chokehold, and Batman counters by spitting kryptonite chewing gum into Superman's eye.

It was just so ridiculously over the top. I hope the movie does stuff like that.

MINOR CORRECTION: She wasn't chopped up. Just stuffed in his refrigerator. However, in an effort to not offend CCA, they kept her body mostly off panel. This lead readers to assume she was dismembered.

I've still seen the occasional article that incorrectly claims that she was dismembered.

I barely remember seeing that as a kid. I think I thought she was cut up too. Just...what one would usually expect w/ a body in the fridge.
