Let us never speak of Doomsday ever again on Smallville or suffer eternal banishment to the Phantom Zone.

It's a similar complaint, though. To me, Civil War means either it takes longer to get back to the Winter Soldier threads, or it gets crammed into the backstory, or we never get it, which is disappointing.

It'll be interesting to me how they lead into Justice League with this. I don't think they can go the road of the world distrusting Superman because of his godlike powers, if they want to introduce a team of people with godlike powers and have them be heroes.

True, though I'm going to assume Lex Luthor will be revealed to the world as a villain rather than a savior against Superman and if Doomsday is in this, it might prove Superman, and the others with superpowers, are necessary. We also don't know what will come out of the events in Suicide Squad where, if what I read are true, also brings some kind of magic fantasy into the mix (versus something more akin to sci-fi fantasy).

I do recall a question about a certain distrust of the Justice League in one or two of the animated movies which presumably were based on a comic book storyline or graphic novel, and given JL is split into two, there's more than enough time to pursue that story.

I'd think they'd want less of a complex story like Watchmen and more of a "good guys team up to fight Darkseid" or something, but you're right, there needs to be at least two stories going on, one of which gets resolved by the first movie.

Two pieces of what are supposedly concept art for BvS:

Spoiler:

That second pic looks like it was ripped straight off of Jim Lee's art in Hush.

I guess but I have way more faith in what Marvel is doing with their universe and Civil War than I do in what DC is doing. They've proven that they can make solid films and Civil War will involve Winter Soldier in some respect so I'm sure that storyline will be acknowledged somehow and will be a part of the overall larger events going on.

I think the key difference like I mentioned before with this film is it's really the first time there's been a crossover DC film and they're throwing so much stuff in at once that it's sort of ridiculous. Especially given the fact that Batman and Superman together in a film in and of itself is a huge thing. The way that all this other crap has to be crammed in its just sort of silly. This film feels like they're trying to be where Marvel is currently at without any of the backstory. I think a hot mess as someone else described it earlier could very well be accurate.

The official synopsis was released for the movie:

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

but from the trailer, it doesn't look like superman is "metropolis' most revered" savior. a bit contradictory with the synopsis

The statue was defaced with a "False God" graffiti. There were several voiceovers of other random citizens echoing similar sentiments. So clearly Superman isn't loved by the public.

Oh good, we'll get 20 pages breaking down each and every word. Sounds pretty much what I expected (and pretty obvious).

someone made the effort to make a statue for the guy. im sure the majority likes him but there are also alot that dont... hence the world wondering which hero they need.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

I dunno, that synopsis sounds pretty cool to me. It's obvious that some think of him as a saviour and others (including Luthor, Batman, and probably the government) think of him as a threat, and that kind of echos some of the conflict between fanbases over MoS, so it's appropriate.

Far better to get that then Superman and Batman are both beloved by the public, and they have some dumb misunderstanding that causes them to briefly fight, until they realize they are being manipulated and team up against a badguy, which is what superhero crossovers were like for many decades. The distrust Batman feels towards Superman shouldn't be caused by any external force, but there should be a gradual realization that this guy wants to do good and isn't just snapping necks and bringing down buildings and satellites.

BTW, the last part "a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before" could lend credence for
Spoiler:
Doomsday
.

Although perhaps it's merely referring to Luthor.

Your mention of a misunderstanding made me think of Superman, Batman, and Woinder Woman in a Three's Company episode.

Actually, I was thinking of
Spoiler:
Brainiac. Doomsday is more of a personal threat to Superman. Brainiac is the global threat to all mankind.

Re: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (D: Snyder; S: Gadot)

I suppose that the public will have ambivalent feelings about Superman after he saved the world. Many in the public will think of him as a hero but the elite will likely deride him as a loose cannon that has allegiance to no one. Modeling real world politics, a force like Superman would instantly be considered a major threat by all other countries.

It's like Watchmen and Dr. Manhattan. "We have the Superman and he's American." The political calculus is real and would change everything. Luthor would almost certainly fund astroturfing campaigns against Superman's public image to undermine him, much like billionaires like George Soros run secret PR campaigns against things they don't like.

Certainly possible and would lead-in to the necessity of forming the Justice League.

Spoiler:
Only mentioned Doomsday since there were rumors of his inclusion and, I might've read this somewhere, he was created using Kryptonian DNA extracted from Zod's body which in itself would be yet another consequence to Superman killing him, a bit of irony to save others would lead the creation of a monster.

Spoiler:
There have been rumors that Brainiac is the primary villain of the movie as well. I tend to believe those rumors more because like I said Doomsday is more of a personal threat to Superman and will therefore probably be used in a solo Superman movie instead. Brainiac is a more global threat for the Justice League to take on.

Nearly all of Superman's villains are not only superpowered, but weird-looking too. It has to be hell on a budget. At least other Kryptonians look human.
