Good Times (1967)
The guy I bought this second-hand from said it was similar to The Monkees. It is way inferior and a lot less funny than the Monkees' series. I can understand why this bombed at the box office back then. Even if Sonny & Cher were pretty popular, the script was so bad. And the songs cheezy (aren't they all? I knew one or two before)
S&C are approached by Hollywood to play in a movie. Sonny wants control over the script and starts imagining him and Cher in various parodies: western, Tarzan, etc.

Atomic Blonde (2017)
Not sure about this one. A lot of work and attention went into the 'looking cool' department (sets, music, photography, Charlize, etc.), but not sure there was much money left for the scriptwriters. A few good plot twists but a rather too simple spy film. Nice idea of setting it in Berlin when the wall collapsed.

Bestiaire (2012)
Rather too contemplative for me. The filmaker spent a few days (weeks?) in a zoo, filming animals in their cages and 'natural' habitats. Then put this together without comments or any human interaction. Sort of an ode to caged animals I guess. Although some of the images (and animals) are beautiful, the result is rather slow and somewhat boring.

A Simple Plan (1998)
Great story of 'fucked up' coup by three ordinary men who stumble upon a load of stolen cash in a crashed airplane in the forest in winter. From the moment they decide to keep it, everything goes awry. It was fun seeing Bridget Fonda again. Does anyone know why she retired from acting?

60 million dollars man (1995)
A guy gets beaten up by thugs and gets a new 'bionical' body by crazy scientist. The thing is he can transform into any home appliance, like a toilet bowl or a tube of toothpaste! Revenge and mayhem ensue.
Early effort by Hong Kong's Stephen Chow is not as controled as his later international comedies (Kung Fu Hustle & Shaolin Soccer). A lot of stupid jokes and not much of a script (plus faster than light subtitles!) made this a so-so watch. It was strange seeing what made Chinese laugh - supposedly - like a lot of shit and fart jokes by old men and women!

Written and directed by Werner Herzog.
Robert Pattinson when he is not doing Twilight movies can act.

There's no thread for it, but I saw Breaking In today
Gabrielle Union was good in it, but overall it's a very forgettable PG-13 thriller. Super short at under 90 minutes. I sat next to some overweight woman and her husband and she fell fast asleep once the lights went out She was snoring intermittently throughout it.

Ichi The Killer (2001)
Loses a bit of steam during the final act but the journey there is wild.

Baywatch (2017) - Hulu. This was fun to watch on my tv but I totally understand why people groaned as they walked out of theaters after seeing this film. I suspect that streaming is where this film will thrive and gain a new audience.
Demolition Man - Hulu. I continue to love this film and feel that it is under-rated when it comes to action films. It has some great bits of throw-away dialogue and the action set-pieces are better than I remember them to be (the museum set-piece is fantastic). Also, it looks surprisingly good in HD on Hulu.

The Matrix (1999) — The effects still hold up today though one can't help but think of all the movies that came afterward attempting to mimic the style. Still, lots of fun especially when you get beyond the philosophic babble. I choose to believe the sequels never happened, Revolutions especially. 4.25/5

This was on Cinemax. The main character was a douche and you hoped he would get killed.

Huh. Big Herzog fan but this one must have flown right under the radar. I hadn't even heard of it until you posted this. Interesting cast, and Pattison has been good in his non-Twilight movies (The Rover, Maps to the Stars, Good Time)...I added this to my shopping cart...Look forward to watching it...Just wish it had a better poster...That poster looks awful...

I used my MoviePass for the first time today to watch Blockers. I really enjoyed it. It's one of the better larger budget studio comedies that I have seen in awhile. 3.75/5

Rent it and don't buy it
It came out in 2015 and it is airing on the Showtime networks if you have a subscription.

Brighton Rock - 3/5
A young sociopathic gangster seduces a gullible waitress who could possibly finger him for the murder of a rival mobster. Liked it, but could have been better with less melodrama and a stronger script.

If a White guy wrote this it might be offensive but maybe still offensive if you like good movies
It was alright. Maybe it only came out in Asia?

Camille Claudel (1989)
For a film directed by a director of photography, it was pretty bleak visually. I had seen it in cinema when it came out way back but was glad to rewatch it. Interesting story of passion/autodestruction (Adjani's best credo as always, that with young ingenue) by sculptress Claudel and her mentor/lover Rodin, but uninspired directing and script. Ok watch but could have been so much spectacular.

Conan the Barbarian (1982)
Sword & Sorcery kitch with awful acting all around, but B-Movie fun. Dino DeLaurentis, the Italian Roger Corman!
Had to show it to my 12-year old son!

Shooter (2007)
Usual patriotic/army/righteous Hollywood-fare with maybe a hint of a criticism towards the whole thing. But the flag-hugging and virtuous hero derail it. Ok, if straightforward, as an action film.
