As someone who loves historical and war dramas like this I was disappointed as well. Kind of dragged.

I was at the in-laws for Thanksgiving and they have cable (we cut the cord years ago) so I ended up watching Robocop 2. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy that movie. And I had no idea it was directed by Irvin Kershner.

Don't Think Twice...very sweet and well done.
The Fifth Element...always enjoyable and the visuals are stunning.
Lights Out...very effective little horror movie.

I watched The Judge (2014) today and I really liked it. Great cast. How can you go wrong with an ensemble that includes Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Billy Bob Thornton, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Vera Farmiga. 4/5

Not sure when they were released but a budget BR of While You Were Sleeping and Sleepless In Seattle came out and I picked them up last month. Last night we watched WYWS. Although not technically a Christmas movie, it takes place at Christmas so we usually watch it this time of year. Wasn't a high quality release but it was better than my old DVD which I don't think was even an anamorphic release.

A Day at the Beach - 3.5/5
On a rainy day an alcoholic man picks up his niece (or is it his daughter) who has polio from her mother and decides to take her to the beach. While there he tries to keep her distracted as he finds ways to obtain alcohol. An interesting forgotten character study written by Roman Polanski that he was unable to direct because of his wife's murder. A wacky cameo by the great Peter Sellers as a gay store owner.

Phaedra - 3.5/5
A wealthy Greek shipping tycoon makes plans to bring his son who's studying to be an artist in London into the family business. The plans start to fall apart when the son engages in an affair with his stepmother. Very soapy and melodramatic but kept together by the direction of the great Jules Dassin (Rififi, Night and the City).

To Live and Die in L.A...got to say i pretty much disliked this one from start to finish. the acting was terrible, the story even more so and that heralded chase sequence was really nothing special. i really thought the movie was so amateurish that i can't believe Friedkin directed it. liked the twist at the end, but overall very meh. disappointing.
