Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

repeat viewing. Sometimes Will Ferrell can be tough to take but I like him in this.

Five guys share a loft apartment so they can cheat on their wives. When a girl turns up dead, the story is told through police interviews and a series of flashbacks. Had some rather tepid reviews but found it to be a decent enough rental. Some gratuitous nudity from the likes of Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2)doesn't hurt

At Family Video, when you rent 3 you get a fourth for free. I'm going to call this one the fourth. Holy cow was this thing bad. And that is coming from someone who can usually tolerate mindless action.

Room In Rome - 2.5/5
Two women, being unfaithful to their partners, have a one night stand in a Roman hotel. While there they reveal their most inner selves and what could have been if they were not committed to others. A confused film that can't decide if it wants to be an art film or a dramatic comedy.

A mother and daughter on the run from their past shack up in an old run down hotel with the lonely owner who has just recently lost his mother. Little does he know that the pair have been alive for over 200 years and are vampires. A good well made film that suffers when it jumps back in time and tries to explain the past. Should have focused more on the mother-daughter relationship.

The Kid with a Bike - 4/5
Until he can get back on his feet a father leaves his son at a boys home. After a month and with the father nowhere to be found, he is fostered on the weekends by a woman who works as a hairdresser. As she tries to be a parent the child, he becomes more difficult since he refuses to believe that he was abandoned by his deadbeat father. Another good slice of life film from the Dardenne Brothers in which they borrow a bit from Truffaut & De Sica.

Usually watch it on or around 9/11. What a difference a decade makes. Back then we thought very highly of our first repsonders and the sacrifices they made.
gave up on this. These people were too obnoxious

Stallone's The Specialist (1994) on Netflix. It's entirely possible that I saw it during its theatrical run, but I didn't remember anything about it. Hardly surprising since it's completely forgettable, but seeing early 90's Miami brought back a few memories.

Wither (2012)
Swedish Evil Dead worship. Pacing is a little sluggish and the film is a bit long, but I enjoyed the film once the buckets of blood started flowing.

Frances Ha - 1/5
Wannabe Jim Jarmusch meets French new wave film about annoying mumblecore asshole hipster characters and their first world problems. No insult to Jarmusch or the French new wave, which I both like. Noah Baumbach & Wes Anderson should marry each other.

I enjoyed the first 60-65 minutes. After that, everything felt extremely awkward.

Typical Vince Vaughn riff. Relied way too much on saying Fuck every two minutes. Glad it was a rental. The weird part was a nude scene from Bonita Freidrecy who played Colonel Beckman on Chuck. Strange that a 53 year old 5' tall woman who has never done a nude scene would suddenly go topless in a Vince Vaughn comedy.

A Most Wanted Man - 4/5
A Russian-Chechen Muslim seeking political asylum, enters Germany illegally. He is looking to collect the money he inherited from his father and settle down. Things don't go as planned when he becomes the target of the leader of a clandestine anti-terrorist group who is trying to find out what his intentions are with the small fortune he is about to get his hands on. Very good film about the politics and dirty tactics of the spy business, with an excellent performance from the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I enjoyed November Man but this one had very little action, fewer thrills and no suspense. A poor rental choice. This movie had the cast, just not the script

Odd & interesting. I loved Amy Emerson (who also co-wrote the film) in this as well as her costume design.
