The Stanford Prison Experiment - 3.5/5

In 1971 a psychologist conducts a controversial experiment in which college students assume the roles of guards and prisoners in a simulated prison environment.
Interesting film that examines the psychological effects of power and submission.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Miss Osbourne - 2.5/5

The engagement party for Dr. Henry Jekyll and Fanny Osbourne is disrupted when it is discovered that a fiendish homicidal maniac is on the loose.
A wonderful score and set design bring out atmosphere but the chaotic screenplay and bad acting almost ruins it.

I watched Win Win (2011) this morning. I thought it was decent. I had higher expectations for it though since it had Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, and Bobby Cannavale in the cast. 3/5

That was a intense movie though still shocked they could go that far especially in the end and even if I were in that position I would not take it that far.

Billy Crudup was excellent as usual and Nicholas Braun the guy who is in almost every movie no.

Animals United (German: Konferenz der Tiere) is a 2010 German 3D computer animated comedy adventure film directed and produced by Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe. It was released on 7 October 2010 in Germany. The film stars Ralf Schmitz and Thomas Fritsch as a meerkat named Billy and a lion named Socrates in the African Okavango Delta, who go on an epic quest to discover why their river has unexpectedly dried up. It is based on the 1949 book of the same name by Erich Kästner. The screenplay for the film was written by Oliver Huzly and Reinhard Kloos. An English dub version for Animals United stars an ensemble cast, including James Corden, Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley, Dawn French, Billie Piper, Jim Broadbent, Vanessa Redgrave, Jason Donovan and Andy Serkis.

Reviews for the film were generally mixed to negative, with the aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes reporting that 25% of critics have given the film a positive review, with an average rating 3.8 out of 10. A review in the Hollywood Reporter described the film as a "bombastic CGI-effort that aims at the big leagues, but preaches too much while entertaining too little to unite internationally."

American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt — The last two were fun bad. This was just plain bad and sorely missed Michael Dudikoff. Not sure how I would've made it through without Steve James, but even he seemed bored. 1/5

The Thing (1982) — I think I had seen this before but it's been many years. Anyway, still a great horror flick from Carpenter's direction to a low key but well done score. 4.25/5

In Bloom - 3.5/5

Two 14-year-old girls deal with the hardships of growing up in an unstable Georgia after the collapse of the USSR. A good film worth watching for the performances of the two nonprofessional leads.

Bright Victory (1951)

Really good movie about a soldier blinded in the war. Unique story idea, and it was very well written, directed, and acted. Arthur Kennedy gives a great performance (and earned an Academy Award nomination for it), and the rest of the cast is excellent as well.

The depiction of the blind is actually quite stunning, as they focus on ability rather than disability. I was just flipping through the channels and stopped to see what Turner Classic was playing and couldn't turn the channel.

And it was really ahead of it's time in dealing with race issues (not a main focus of the movie, but an important plot point) and treating blacks as equals and shaming people who think of them otherwise - groundbreaking (and refreshing) for 1951.

And, apparently, Bernie Hamilton was in it! So was Rock Hudson! (Both briefly, but they were in it!)

Jim Backus, Will Geer, Robert F Simon, Julie (Julia) Adams, and an almost star who was headed for the big time before quitting acting named Peggy Dow. She was good. Attractive, but not ridiculously so, and quite talented.

If you ever get a chance to watch it it comes highly recommended.

Hospitalite - 3.5/5

A quiet Japanese family's life turns into chaos when they take in an acquaintance that has recently been evicted from his home.
An interesting critique about Japanese attitudes towards outsiders with some funny moments.

Midnight Special - 2.5/5

Basically Starman Jr., with an Abyssian ending. Not bad, but I'd rather just watch Starman again.

I just finished watching Freaks of Nature. I thought it was decent. I really liked the premise and idea of it, but I thought it could have been made better. 3.0/5

The ads and the buzz had me wanting to see it in the theater, but it never played wide enough or long enough in this region. I jumped on it when it became available for rent.

Somewhat disappointing. It begins by keeping a lot of the plot details just out of reach, and I kept waiting for a moment in the second act where all the cards would be put on the table and the story would come together. That never happened. It just seems they ignored the details that got in the way of their story and tried to play it off as part of the mystery.

There's another current thread about films titled "Movies that you really enjoy but don't watch often because of the long running time?", -this would be a perfect candidate.

Eye In The Sky - 3.5/5

Good flick. Very sad of Alan Rickman passing away.
