I remember watching an interview and he mentioned that it was after seeing him in something that he handpicked him for the role. It could have been Interview with a Vampire, I guess. I know they filmed Desperado in the Fall of '94, so Assassins would have been filmed right after. Maybe he saw a rough cut? Not sure. I do know that Sly chose him for the role in Assassins.

The Jackie Chan casting was always peculiar to me, because does Chan even star or participate in any flicks that are not rated PG-13?

God, it sucks almost as much being an HK cinema fan as it does being an OOT fan. Anyway, does Hung ever sleep? Even after heart surgery, he seems to be choreographing and starring in movies pretty regularly. Shame he never had much crossover success in the US. And yes, apparently there is BR release of Eastern Condors.

Looking forward to seeing Ford be badass again. He'll probably be in self-parody mode, but hey, who in this franchise isn't?
