"On the way to this particular cut, in pursuit of what we felt was the perfect balance for this first time out with Thor, we had to not so much sacrifice — because this felt like the right thing to get to, but with certain areas of the story, things like the Asgardian parents, Odin and Frigga, played by the beautiful Rene Russo, there's some beautiful scenes in there that I think people will enjoy."
"And certainly Thor and Loki interacting in different ways that just fill in a little bit of a back story, that was part of our rehearsal and research.I think it's going to be an interesting bunch of material."
"I guess it's got to be 20 minutes worth, I think. It's a significant amount, actually."

I was one of the few people who had high expectation for THOR and I'm happy to say the movie met almost all of them, exceeded a few, and only fell short on one or two. I'll post a more thorough opinion later.
I give it a solid A (4/5). A fraction under IRON MAN, but better than INCREDIBLE HULK and IRON MAN 2
The "Special Thanks" section of the credits however is baffling: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Walt Simonson, RALPH MACCHIO?! Does anyone know anything about Macchio having an involvement in some aspect of the movie?

Yeah, I feel dumb now. If I read his stuff back in the day, I sure didn't remember his name, but most of what he did was slightly before I got into comics.

I just saw this a couple hours ago. I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to. Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations and was surprised by it, but I thought this was a genuinely entertaining movie. Good blend of action and humor and while I'm not an expert on the character it seemed to follow the story enough that fanboys should be pleased yet it seems like it will appeal to th mainstream audiences. Good start for the summer super hero movies.

Yup. That was the
I wonder if this means that the concluding present day bookend of of Captain America ocurs sometime during the events of Thor. Similar to how the university fight in The Incredible Hulk ocurred during the events of Iron Man 2.

I thought this was on par with the first Iron Man, with this source material posing an even more daunting transition to the big screen. Branagh and his crew did more than an admiral job. When this project was first announced I expected a potential disaster that would be laughed off the screen. I was wrong.
Kudos to all involved.
4 out of 5 stars.

Voted 3-half. The conclusion was kinda "meh", but I enjoyed everything else (I thought the Earth scenes were gonna be the weak links, but they turned out to have my favorite moments) Totally forgot that Asano (Kakihara!) was in this.
Oh, and out of all the new "Action stars" out there (Like Sam Worthington & C-Tatum) Chris Hemsworth is the only one who's got my attention.

I like it a lot. Thor is on my Short list of Marvel characters I'm allowed to like and I thought they did a great job bringing him to the big screen. The humor was fun and likable, the costumes and locations(Asgard mostly) were great, and the linking of films was very cool.

Thinking back to when I saw the movie, I was surprised that at one point I was hoping the Destroyer would've killed Agent Coulson. I found him oddly endearing in IM and IM2 but I started to dislike him late in Thor. Dunno why.

It's probably because he comes as douchey to "normal" people in "Thor".

I didn't even recognize him and was surprised to see him listed in the end credits. I hated him Punisher Warzone but loved him here. If there's a sequel to Thor, I hope he gets even more screentime.

I like how Coulson became a guy doing a day job. To us, it's so cool that there are superheroes, but to him it just means more paperwork. And he became a lot nicer after Thor agreed to be an ally.

But, yeah, his "just another day at the office" attitude is the best thing about him.

The aspect that resonated strongly with me in this film was Thor's genuine heroism. He's a hero worth rooting for, despite his character flaws which are in all honesty, well-intentioned. His selflessness is apparent very early on and it's a great ride seeing him grow into the man Odin desires him to become. I can't think of another Marvel hero that thinks so much of, to borrow a famous line, "the needs of the many," as opposed to his own desires.
If that isn't enough, Loki is a fantastic villain. They really got his "trickster" nature down and they gave him a good deal of pathos, leading up to his full embodiment of villany, but even then he's not "comic book" evil.
After seeing Thor in all his Asgardian glory, with his powers never coming off as hokey, I feel the new Superman movie has a tough act to follow in terms of aerial and superhuman action, not to mention pure heroism in the character.
I'm definitely looking forward to "The Avengers" now and it will be fun to see how the big three interact. We have Thor whose for the people and selfless, Tony Stark who still has a major selfish streak, and Captain America, who according to reports will likely fall in the middle: for the people but disillusioned with the jingoism.

Anxious to see this movie, I remember reading a few Thor comic books in my youth, and I thought the Asgardian references in Stargate SG-1 were kinda neat, but I could care less about the 3D aspect of this or any other movie. I might see a 3D flick someday as a novelty but it doesn't hold that much of an interest for me to care about it. The actor they chose to play Thor seemed of smaller stature to me than what I remember of Thor, but I'm anxious to see how he plays out in this movie. -kd5-
