Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

Well the scene is obviously cut down from the full version, despite the claim on the video title. So I bet the continuity errors are from the scene getting trimmed. That doesn't excuse the hyper fast reflexes but I can live with it.

I'm wondering how they'll visualize the Spidey Sense in this flick.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

....Totally forgot about that. Did we get a look at the Spidey sense in the trailers for Raimi's 1st Spidey film? Or did we get a look at it first literally in the film?

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

That positive review needs to re-think it's blurb, as that will be huge turn-off and miscommunication to most. I don't really know what he means by
Spoiler:
saying Gwen Stacy is more of the main character. I guess if the movie is told from her POV it makes sense, but I just don't see how that would work. To me it would look more like they want to justify the money they paid to have Emma Stone .

I hate tHat clip. I hope He is joking with that voice. When did Spider-man have a Brooklyn accent?

Also some,of the dialog is changed from the first trailer. When he is doing the oh no you found my weakness it was different here.

Okay but even if there is more than a few seconds between the guy parking his car and the thief breaking into it, it still doesn't explain how Spidey got into a locked car without breaking into it himself. So Spidey breaks into a car to stop a guy from committing the exact same crime he just committed? If they wanted to keep the humor intact, they could have just had Spidey walk up behind the thief and tap him on the shoulder or something without making Spidey commit grand theft auto himself.

I can't remember how it was visualized in the Raimi trilogy. The only time I really recall was when Doc Ock threw a car through the window of a restaurant where Peter and MJ were, and that was just a slow motion kind of effect I think. I dislike the Raimi series so much I have blocked it from my mind I guess.

But still spider-sense or not, he isn't so fast that he can dodge gunfire from two feet away.

I just watched the trilogy a few days ago*, and they showed the Spider Sense by doing a slow motion close-up of Peter's face, and it was highlighted by a strange sound effect.

*I should say I just watched the trilogy and enjoyed it greatly. I'll happily revisit again just as I have many times before.

I think its weird how all those cops are on him that quickly after a car jacking.

So the cop SHOOTS at Spiderman because he looks different and makes a smart ass comment? Also, any chance he would have hit the perp webbed to the wall when he missed. Stupid scene.

I definitely wouldn't call this the Twilight of superhero movies. If anything it's the Garden State of superhero movies (which makes sense given Webb directed 500 Days of Summer).

There are some corny bits but it feels like a movie from the comic books which is nice. I enjoyed Garfield more than Tobey, I thought he got the character traits right, like the sarcastic quips and all that. And the Lizard is quite imposing.

3D quality good?

I don't know. that car thief clip that's posted made me chuckle a couple of times and has only made me more excited for the movie. I loved the part where he kept closing the car door on the guy.

I don't see it as stupid. Cops overreact at times and I thought that Spidey knew he was putting the perp in danger which is why he leaped over the cop and took the gun away.

This film mixes elements of Raimi's first two films. With the re-told origin and the relationship to a "mentor" Octavius/Connors. And it plays out almost like 3 movies.
Spoiler:
Spidey's origin and his quest to find the person who killed Uncle Ben, Peter/Connors, and Connors/Lizard/OsCorp.

I'll be interested to see what the final cut looks like.

Another review that doesn't say very much but it does mention something that could be a potentially huge spoiler.

http://www.standard.co.uk/arts/film/...w-7865610.html

Spoiler:
The review says that Norman Osborn is dying. Maybe this is a setup for the Green Goblin if he creates a formula to keep himself alive?

Wait. Is that mentioned in passing? Or does the character actually cameo?

He mentions
Spoiler:
a wet eyed ending with Stone and Garfield. I doubt it means Gwen dies in this one, but perhaps Captain Stacy. Only problem is that if he spends most of the movie being a prick, it won't pack much punch.

Spoiler:
Personally I don't like this version of Captain Stacy since he is essentially the complete opposite of his comic book counterpart, so when/if he dies it won't have the same punch as his death in the comics.

In the comics, he always supported Spider-Man and just as he was dying he revealed that he knew Spidey is really Peter and told him to take care of his daughter when he is gone. That was really emotional. The Captain Stacy in the movie however comes off more as an asshole that is leading the police to bring down Spidey. The movie has really ruined his character in my opinion, so I won't particularly care if he bites it.

That death we heavily assume will come at some point won't happen here. Stone was interviewed and asked about. She had some neat things to say about it and how it's really the character's most recognizable feat.

You know, it's amazing how much of a resemblance Stone has to the original MJ as a redhead and the original Gwen Stacy as a blonde. Maybe that's a way for her to stay in the franchise should Gwen meet the same fate as she did in the comics. Or... J. Michael Stracyznski pens the sequels and reveals that MJ is, in fact, a clone of Gwen with red hair. ;)

Spoiler:
The death of Captain Stacy from the comics packs even more of a punch that his dying wish to Peter was that he protect and take care of Gwen, seeing as how Peter pretty much failed that request on an epic level. If in the movie his dying wish is "keep that scum Spider-Man away from her", it has no real resonance.

Yeah, I don't think comparing it to Twilight is really a good thing to do. Twilight has a bad reputation among most people that aren't teenage girls, and my initial thought was that he was going to say the movie sucked. He didn't really say anything bad at all about it though. It sounds pretty decent the way he described it.

It's enough to turn me off to the film. I already hated the idea of a reboot. Raimi's Spiderman was just fine, the cast worked well, and those films were teasing the lizard already. So many great Spidey stories yet we have to endure another origin story.

We haven't seen the movie yet. Perhaps:

Spoiler:
Capt. Stacy has a change of heart and begins to support spider-man. So he's a redeemed character, thus giving his possible death more weight

The third movie could be the Clone Saga with Emma Stone playing both MJ and Gwen!!

Actually though, if they do kill off Gwen in the second movie, the third movie as the Clone Saga might not be a bad way to end the trilogy. (the original 1970s Clone Saga, not the horrid 1990s Clone Saga.)

As Capt. Stacy dies, he tells Peter (who has revealed himself as Spider-man to the Captain) to stay away from Gwen as his last wish. Knowing the danger he can bring to Gwen should someone find out. The last scenes are (from my viewing) Peter staying away from Gwen and she calls him out about it and figures out the her Dad is the one that told Peter to stay away.
