I showed the picture to a friend of mine and he asked "Is that a Casio watch on his wrist?"

Yeah this picture looks a little bit silly, even the bounding pose looks ridiculous. But I think the costume will look better on camera... lots of these suits look silly without proper lighting, CGI, etc.

I will say that looks dreadful but it's completely out of context. It may end up looking great based on that original picture that was released.

But I agree with Def, I imagine most superhero costumes look pretty weird or funny in regular photography. In the context of the actual movie, i'm sure it looks far cooler, like the promo shot.

I thought that this would be a sure thing; I really did. It is probably the easiest costume in comic books to "make". When the pictures were released today, I saw the first one and thought "head looks awesome--something a seriously dedicated fanboy would wear to CON." Then I scrolled down and thought, "Oh my God, they are marking SPIDER-MAN 2099 88 years to early!" Besides the two tone gloves which look ridiculous, I was happy to see *any* type of mechanical web shooters but that is about it.
I am very bummed unless there is some "final costume" we have not seen yet. It seems that the only sure thing in comic book movies is from Christopher Nolan esp after this weeks casting (although I was never a Bane fan and Tom Hardy is not that big a dude, I am sure Nolan has something up his sleeve.) Oh and finally, does anyone know if Favreau left the next installment of IRON MAN b/c MARVEL/DISNEY kept making him put more and more AVENGERS tie-in shots in IM2? (Fury, Agent Coulson, Caps Shield, the Initiative papers, etc). I was really hoping he would stay on as director b/c I thought the first IRON MAN was a perfect first installment--the second had some flaws that I thought were fixable but Maybe Favs got fed-up w/ all of the input from the brass.

The photo has some serious shadows going on - as if it was taken at night with TONS of lighting, making the costume appear more cartoony than usual.

Why not? It doesn't look like it's been photoshopped or tampered with, and it's definitely a clear representation of the overall design of the costume. That being said, i think it looks like total shit. Like Puma designed it. Like the guy from Korn should be wearing it and dirty dredlocks should be shooting out the top. Either that, or some figure skater, or luger could also pull it off. It just doesn't look very heroic.

Wow, except for the shoes and wrist things -- which I'd bet money would be eliminated in SFX tidy-ups -- it doesn't look different at all from the previous movie costumes. But that's just me being crazy and logical.

Oh, phew! I didn't realize they put those stupid red lines down the legs and the arms just to painstakingly take them out of every shot with CGI. Thanks for the heads up.
