Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)
I'd be willing to bet all parties involved expect this to be a big hit... and I'd also bet his contract is ironclad enough to keep him locked in at those prices unless Sony decides they want to be generous and give him a bonus for performance.

that's going to SUCK doing those megablockbusters dirt cheap. It'll suck even worse if they turn out to be lame movies. Considering the fact that he actually takes his profession seriously, he's really gambling with his career (these movies could absolutely blow).

Well, it kinda sounds like they're aiming for that audience. I understand that they need the fanboy money but this seems more twilight and less comic book.

Just because it's about a teenage Peter Parker (which, as has been pointed out numerous times, was a huge part of the comic), doesn't mean it's automatically "more Twilight." I'm not at all a fan of Webb, but I wouldn't consider him the "Twilight" choice, and definitely not this actor for Parker.

Will one of these women be Spider-Man's love interest? (exclusive)
The narrowing down for the female lead in the upcoming Marc Webb-directed “Spider-Man” movie has begun.
Starting today and heading into the weekend, select actresses are meeting with Webb and new Spidey actor Andrew Garfield. In a departure from the Tobey Maguire-Kirsten Dunst movies, the love-interest character is not Mary Jane. What isn't clear is whether the actresses are auditioning to play Gwen Stacy, Parker’s other love interest in the comics (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in 2007's "Spider-Man 3") or some other new character. The script pages being given to the actresses have no name listed for the character.
If necessary, another round of meetings may occur next weekend.
There are others in contention, but we can reveal the following names:
Imogen Poots, the CAA-repped actress who is currently shooting the “Fright Night” remake.
Ophelia Lovibond, a British up-and-comer who appeared in “Nowhere Boy” and “4.3.2.1” and recently wrapped William Monahan’s “London Boulevard”;
Lilly Collins, repped by CAA and ROAR, who appeared in “The Blind Side” last year and will be seen in “Priest.”
Others potentially in the mix are:
Teresa Palmer, who is currently shooting “I Am Number Four” and was the romantic lead in this summer’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” The actress, repped by WME and Management 360, read with Garfield last weekend.
Emma Roberts has twice flown from the set of “Scream 4” for readings. (Sweeney Management-repped Roberts co-starred with Lovibond in “4.3.2.1.”)
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the love interest in “Scott Pilgrim vs the World,” was in the arachnid web but sources say she has now fallen out.
These are not screentests, which usually involve some sort of dealmaking, but rather readings and meetings. Basically, it’s still early. And if none of these girls work out, don’t rule out another round of searching.
Like Garfield, many of the contenders on the female side are up-and-comers, fitting in with the lower-key, edgier movie Webb is trying to make. The story is more grounded in the high school setting than the previous Sam Raimi-directed trilogy. The production is looking to go before cameras in December.
Columbia had no comment.

The fact they're going (presumably) Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane Watson is a big step in the right direction. Let's hope they actually cast a warm, engaging actress as the love interest this time around instead of Sourpuss/Skeletor.

for those that have Netflix, Garfield is in the Red Riding Trilogy (the acclaimed UK series of movies) which Part 2 and 3 are streaming instantly, sadly there was some kind of audio issue with part 1 that they are trying to work on to stream, but on DVD/Blu 8/31.

Hopefully we hear news about the villain soon. I really wanted Fassbender would have been able to take on the villain role. I think he would have made a great Lizard. It would be great if that's the villain they still have in mind.

Ehh. Gwen's gotta be girl-next-door attractive who generates warmth instead of hotness. Duff is a reasonably attractive girl, but she always comes across as somewhat ****y. Bryce Howard was an amazing Gwen, too bad she was stuck in the middle of a POS movie.
No. Nope. Not even.
But I don't know anything about her at all (except newsbits I've seen on the 'net)....can she act? At all? Even a smidge?
