Snake and fumanstan are correct. While the suit was definitely given practical airbrushing to enhance detail, Tobey was in great shape due to yoga.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

Also....there was a screen test where Maguire was already getting in shape for it:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J61RWkXEKTc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J61RWkXEKTc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Also 2.0:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sm3JrLoelmE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sm3JrLoelmE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

I'm hoping the JJ they get is a little less cartoonish. Simmons was perfect for Raimi's Spider-Man, but he's more grizzled in the comics. You know who would be interesting casting for that role? Kevin Kline.

I was trying to think of someone who could play JJ for the new film and Dennis Farina came to mind.

Yup. And the material of the suit was specially woven to enhance his muscle detail. It's the same type of suit that was later used for Superman Returns.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

And let's be honest, looking at the torso of the new Spider-man pic, there's probably the same kind of muscle accenting going on there given the abs on him. Heh.

I like the new suit, looks much better than Raimi's. Since I don't think any of those films held up over time, I'm hoping this one is much better.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I'm not a comic reader so all the fan hang-ups people have about comic-based movies have never hung over my head when watching them.

I had no problems with the Spider-Man trilogy and wished there was indeed a fourth with Raimi and co.

I have no interest in this one because of that, and also it's just too soon for my liking.

Spider-Man to me doesn't have the same flexibility with the character and basic story that you can simply make a new set of films without having them end up in some way like the ones before, unlike Batman who can be put into any kind of setting (60s, Burton, Schumacher, Nolan) and still be independent of each other and work without feeling that it's treading the same ground.

The suit here looks like they had to deliberately modify it to be similar but different in some way compared to the Maguire / Raimi suit. Different because it has to be different, as though they had to go against what was done in the previous films for only that reason. Obviously time will tell if it all works out or not. Hope it does, but can't say I'm enthusiastic at all.

Wow no CGI for the stunt gotta love it. Maybe they will make the spiderman stunt man swing for real around skyscrapers with a thin rope?

A (blurry) look at the mask:

Eyes look better than Raimi's suit, which is a big

Interesting that thedailybugle.com is registered to Wizard. I'm surprised they wouldn't have tried to lock that down.

And the distance shot of Spider-Man finally makes me realize what was bugging me about the first shot we saw. Without the red hip portions on the costume it looks sort of like Borat's swimsuit.

I didn't find anything wrong with Spidey's eyes in the Raimi movies. I'm actually surprised that there seem to be complaints about the costume, I thought it was pretty damn good all around.
