That was very wise. It only I had done so, my life would not be missing two hours which could've been better spent....well, I don't much worthwhile, but almost anything would've been better .

Re: movies that ask you to disregard events of previous movie
The movie didn't look interesting enough to go see it. But I can give terrible movies some leeway, if for nothing other than to rip on them.
But I enjoy a good parody. I mean a real "we are fans of the source material and are poking fun at the flaws we love" type parody....not those dumb "lets just make fun of a bunch of popular movies" tripe. But to go from a spot on Bond parody, to having Austin drink shit? That moment is when Mike Myers became dead to me.

The thing I would add to the Bond debate is his skills.
In certain films he knows how to defuse/disarm bombs or missiles and in others he doesn't.
This goes well with a theory I once heard which I like quite alot.
James Bond is just a name. M just selects the right agent for that mission, the next mission might be for a different agent.

While the Jaws sequels don't ask you to disregard the first movie, the Universal ride in Orlando pretty much acts like everything since the first one didn't happen. Something I gladly accept as canon. Speaking of which, Terminators 3 and 4 ask us disregard the events of T-2 3D. While it is just a theme park attraction, it was directed by Cameron while the others weren't. That's enough for me to accept it as canon.
Speaking of strange/offbeat endings to a series, I find it interesting how Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein tries to fit in as the finale to all of the Universal Monster movie crossovers. Heck, they even brought back Bela Lugosi to play Dracula. Also
