movies that ask you to disregard events of previous movie

Can anyone think of movies/sequels that either totally negate, or contradict events that happen in a previous movie?

For example, the upcoming Dead Pool movie, is basically negating the events with that character in Wolverine Origins.

The worst example I could think of is Young Guns 2 which wildly contradicts the little text blurbs about the characters at the end of Young Guns 1.

Reboots do that, no? Batman Begins comes to mind.

Superman Returns asks us to mercifully forget 3 and 4.

Batman Returns in some ways. Visually At least.
Batman Forever in some ways, much different tone and cast.

The Hammer Frankenstien and Dracula continuities are all over the place.

One of the original Pink Panther flims totally ignored the previous films plot.

The Devil's Rejects ignores the fact that Otis was an albino in House of 1000 Corpses.

Highander 2 blatantly contradicts Highlander. And the third Highlander contradicts both of them.

That's why there can be only one.

Isn't just about everything that Obiwan says in the original Star Wars trilogy contradicted in the prequels?

Re: movies that ask you to disregard events of previous movie

There was a period there, 2000-on, when nearly every Godzilla movie disregarded every previous Godzilla movie. We're talking GODZILLA 2000, GODZILLA X MEGAGUIRUS, GODZILLA...GIANT MONSTERS SHOWDOWN, ... X MECHAGODZILLA, ...TOKYO SOS and FINAL WARS. I don't recall which of this group actually continued from the one just before it, but there may have been one. But it got very confusing.

Re: movies that ask you to disregard events of previous movie

Halloween H20, as summed up in this excerpt from its Wikipedia entry:
As originally conceived, the plot device in which Laurie had faked her death was written explicitly to account for her reported "death" in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, and the original story treatment for H20 acknowledged the events depicted in the fourth through sixth films in the series, including the existence and death of Laurie's daughter, Jamie Lloyd. However, the filmmakers ultimately chose to ignore the continuity of the previous three sequels. Although Laurie's faked death remained in the script, the scenes mentioning Jamie were removed from the story, and the film's dialogue was adjusted to indicate that Michael Myers had not been heard from in the twenty years since the night depicted in the first two films.

So it can be looked at as either: 1) ignoring films 4-6, or 2) Laurie Strode fakes her death to move away and start a new family, in the process abandoning her young daughter Jamie and leaving her to believe her mother is dead.

Until Casino Royale '06 and Quantum of Solace f'd up the Bond formula, very little if any ties are there between the James Bond films. The only glimpses we got in the classic Bonds were the subtile references to Mrs. Bond, Quarrel, and of course... Blofeld.

The Dalton and Brosnan films have none of these references though.

This is what came to mind for me. Of course assuming that I acknowledge the existence of more than one Highlander Movie-which I don't.

Not entirely true. In License to Kill, Bond's previous marriage is alluded to. And in Goldeneye, when Bond is about to go off on his mission, M warns him not to pursue a personal vendetta with the man he thinks killed 006 - itself another allusion to the events of License to Kill...

Matrix: Reloaded & Revolutions disregarded the fact that the original was great.

Along the same lines of this genius humour, I pose that Quantum of Solace asked you to forget that Casino Royale was a good movie.

28 Days Later drops all the characters and storylines that made 28 Days such a great flick, and goes in a somewhat different direction.

Porky's II : The Next Day

At the end of Porky's, you see Mickey on crutches and covered in bandages after getting beaten up by Porky. In the beginning of Porky's 2, Mickey has miraculously healed.

Saw IV when it comes to the last ten minutes of the director's cut (only) of Saw III.

I can agree on Army of Darkness, but disagree on Evil Dead II. It runs the audience through the events of the last film in ten minutes before picking up exactly where they left off.
