Re: Machete
I don't trust Rothman. I assume with all that in that quote, Rodriguez gets the same extension of liberties that we know him as but now with Fox? yes, I can hope.

Re: Machete
Looks like Lindsay Lohan will be appearing nude in this (for those who care) -- can't say I'm surprised.

I guess this will meet Fox's quota of one R rated movie a year.

Re: Machete
Are they basing the Lohan nude thing solely off of the fact that in the fake trailer, her character (not played by her) was nude? They're kind of jumping to conclusions if that's all they're going off of. As far as I could see, the website listed didn't provide any other proof than that.

Re: Machete
Machete not coming until Fall? Fake Trailers?
And from the original source, which elaborates a bit more on the background:
Tarantino directed fake trailer, and a trailer for Machete 2? awesome
“Set in 1975, it will feature Tim Roth as Agent Ringo Orange, a British soldier who wants to restart the Vietnam war. Roth will share the screen in the trailer with Rick Yune, who will play Li Chan, Orange’s South Vietnamese sidekick. It will also star Sacha Baron Cohen as Colonel Weathers, and Stacy Keach as Doc Franklin, the rumoured antagonist.”
Machete will be released in the fall of 2010 by 20th Century Fox. Following his split with Rose McGowan, Rodriguez did not produce the “Cherry Darling” trailer as intended. Instead, the film will be bookended by trailers: preceding the film will be a fake trailer by Quentin Tarantino, to be filmed in March 2010, called “Agent Orange”, following a British Soldier (in 1975) who plans to re-start the Vietnam War. The trailer will feature Tim Roth as “Agent Ringo Orange”, the Soldier with a Vengaence; Rick Yune as “Li Chan”, his South Vietnamese Sidekick; Stacy Keach as “Doc Franklin”, the supposed villain; and Sacha Baron Cohen as “Colonel Weathers”, the hotheaded former commanding officer. The trailer following the film will be “Die, Machete, Die!”, directed by Ethan Maniquis, as a proposed sequel to Machete starring Danny Trejo as “Machete” and Til Schweiger as “The Human Savage”.

Re: Machete
This was a movie I was shocked about when it went into production.
I doubt it will do any better theatrically than Grindhouse did.
I did see Grindhouse theatrically and thought the trailers were the best part of the whole project -- however, the one I wanted most was "Thanksgiving."
Oh well, I'm sure I'll see this someday. Probably not theatrically though.

Re: Machete
It would be nice if FOX got the rights to the whole Grindhouse franchise. i would love to see more Grindhouse, even if it's Direct-to-DVD. Too bad there not making Grindhouse 2 so we could get 3-4 more fake trailers and another movie to go with Machete

Re: Machete
I've always thought it would be cool if Tarantino and Rodriguez kept the Grindhouse banner and had other directors -- like Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, Edgar Wright -- release exploitation movies under it. Not necessarily double features, but still throw in fake trailers and ads. Could even see something like Kevin Smith's "Red State" show up there as well.

Re: Machete
Let's not forget that Grindhouse, inexplicably, was also given an Easter release, and more might have been done to emphasize that it was a double bill (when I worked at a theater, the employees told me they had to post people at the doors to inform the viewers that there was a 2nd film). I think Machete will be easier for audiences to get into, will be coming out at a wiser time, and, perhaps luckiest of all, the viral marketing for this film essentially started 3 years ago...

I agree on both points. I remember going to the opening night with a close to full theater and having a blast watching it because almost everyone in the audience understood what was going on. Of the two you mentioned, I think the Easter release really hurt it, as it was an experience that kind of reveled in its "sleaziness" aspect and the weekend on which it was released is one where people want to feel "holy" and such.
