Machete
According to WorstPreviews:
and the original from BloodyDisgusting:
Now, I generally don't trust the Weinsteins OR BloodyDisgusting, but there ya go..
Last April actor Danny Trejo revealed that the "Grindhouse" spin-off "Machete" was still moving forward and director Robert Rodriguez was still trying to get the movie off the ground.
Now, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the Weinstein company is now making "Machete" a priority and planning to start shooting the film later this year.
No word on whether the film will go theatrical or direct-to-DVD, but previously Trejo revealed that the studio wanted to turn the spin-off into a direct-to-DVD trilogy. He also said that Rodriguez would likely direct.
The story revolves around an ex-Federale (Trejo), who launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss and the organization that hired and betrayed him.

Although we can't confirm the news, it is nice to hear rumblings around town. We're being told that Weinstein Co. has serious plans on shooting Robert Rodriguez's highly anticipated Machete later this year. Starring Danny Trejo, Machete was introduced to us as a faux trailer in Dimension Films' GRINDHOUSE, which bombed at the box office back in April of '07. In the trailer it was revealed that after being betrayed by the organization who hired him, an ex-Federale (Trejo) launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss. No word on if this would go theatrical or direct-to-DVD.

Awesome if true. Can never have too much Danny Trejo kicking ass on screen.

Re: Machete
hrm...we still don't have Sin City 2 and the theatrical cut of Grindhouse. Also wtf has happened to Rodriguez? Once he divorced his wife, it all got quieter for him.

Re: Machete
I meant professionally speaking....well I guess that can be professionally too..hrm. Anyway I mean Sin City 2, everyone was waiting for it..and still..nothing. Miller said in some interview that the Weinsteins were being complicated about it. I'd also kill for a Grindhouse 2..but..I don't think that's going to happen.
For Machete's sake..I'd buy it blindly considering Trejo's is playing the character again..but if it was also directed by Rodriguez...shit yes. I can't see this going into theaters after what Grindhouse made, direct to dvd is more likely to happen..hopefully it gets awesome special features.

Have you seen Champion? It's a terrific documentary about him.

Re: Machete
That would be pretty awesome. Hell I wish they'd just go ahead and make films for all the faux trailers. It could be like the Saw series except instead of the whole movie leading up to the next installment, the faux trailers lay the groundwork for the next.

Re: Machete
He wanted to make Barbarella starring.....who else? Rose McGowan. After the poor performance of Grindhouse, studios were not interested, at least in regards to involving McGowan.

Re: Machete
I cant honestly believe the studios think that Grindhouse bombed because of McGowen. Did they have some personal issues with her? There were many other stars attached to the film advertised. Why single one actress out?

They had me sold after the trailer. Trejo is king. This needs to come out soon.

Re: Machete
But I'd much rather see Machete than anything else Rodriguez has in the pipe now, and that includes Sin City 2. Rourke's story arc over (if he shows up, it'll be for cameos), all the good Sin City stories used up, AND Jessica Alba getting her own new story in which to appear (I refuse to use the term act when speaking of her). I've watched Sin City more than any other movie, and the last thing on Earth I want is a sequel.
