Re: World War Z

Looks good. But I'll eat up any zombie material.

Still wish it was a series of vignettes - like the book was.

I'm guessing that Brad Pitt plays a war journalist who's mission is to record what happens - for the sake of recorded history.

Yes, it is her.

Im hoping that those crazy zombie shots are "money shots" and not the way we'll see the zombies most of the time. Otherwise it won't be scary. I hope there are some real folks playing zombie hordes.

Re: World War Z

I would certainly rent this... I think the trailer looks cool enough. But let's be clear -- this is NOT World War Z. This is "I Am Legend 2" using a #1 Best Seller Title for the sake of selling movie tickets. I wish HBO could get their hands on the rights and do the vignettes properly --- some of them were haunting.

Re: World War Z

I loved the book and I still think this looks great. At this point, I really don't care if it follows the book or not. If I want that, I can just go back and re-read the book.

This looks like a big-budget zombie flick with a shitload of gunfire and explosions. That's all I really need.

This. CGI does nothing for me when it comes to horror or suspense. We need a tangible presence to connect to. Not the CGI Zombie equivalent of scrubbing bubbles.

Is it me or does this cg zombie bullshit look like the cg arachnid bullshit from Starship Troopers? Awful... just awful.

You nailed the description. I hated the scrubbing bubble ghosts in ROTK.

But.

I like the idea of huge unstoppable hordes of zombies, maybe if they moved slower.

How the fuck is it presumptious? Its a trailer which is supposed to sell you the movie and it failed. I dont recall people who got hard ons from the Battle LA trailer or other horrible movies with great trailers being called presumptious.

I know what you mean, they bothered me in ROTK as well. I can appreciate the concept, and it works well in a video game like Left 4 Dead... but in a movie, I appreciate a tangible presence if you're trying to be suspenseful.

sure it's trying to sell the movie, but it's the same thing about 'don't judge a book by it's cover' - people do it, I do it. I have in the past have hated certain trailers with a passion, only to end up loving the 'whole' film: 'Despicable Me'

folk are so quick to judge

Has anyone brought up the fact that this piece of shit was written by Damon Lindelof? The man who destroyed Lost, Prometheus, and Cowboys & Aliens.

is that a statement or a question?

it's the FIRST trailer and already people have their panties all bunched up their asses. Who knew trailers were such a hotbed of emotion.

He only did the third act, and he didn't even have time to do (read: ruin) the ending.

The arachnids from Starship Troopers still hold well for today's standards, nevermind that the flick came out in 1997.

And when it's down to rewrites and reshoots, isn't the writer just a tool for the producer and director?

To be fair, when isn't Lindelof a tool?

It worked okay in Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead.

The real risk of spread is not the zombies, but the infected (those bitten/scratched but not yet turned). They can cross borders before the risk is known, or before they're showing any signs. Once the risk is known, the infected will try to hide it in order to escape areas being quarantined. Pretty much like any other disease.

The zombies add a critical infection point, one that roams around. And while slow, zombies are relentless. The trailer shows soldiers machine gunning zombies; the book explains that this is an ineffective strategy since while on a normal person a shot on a wide variety of areas, or simply enough bullets, will kill them, a zombie won't stop until a bullet hits the head.

This movie is going for the action of a war movie instead of the slow burning terror of a zombie apocalypse.

Re: World War Z

I like everything about the trailer except the cg zombies. I've never read the book and don't give a fuck about using it as a context for an opinion on the film's trailer, it's an adaptation and people should only hold the film for itself. Though if I had read the book...a compare/contrast w/ personal thoughts on what I felt about it would be fine. So going w/ the former of this...it looks like a really dang pretty film except w/ the zombies come in loosey goosey CGI bodies and etc. Looks weird. The actions they do in those effects shots technically aren't all that bad but the extensive use of a cg mob of them like that really takes out the factor of them being real as a physical presence. Them climbing up that way looks alright but if it had more grounded of a look to it, it'd rock rather well. But then you also get that wave of them washing down in between those buildings. Looks weird as fuck.

I'll see this but do wish they would fix those kinds of issues. I need to read the book at some point. It has always interested me though.

There is a celebrity audiobook. Look it up on Youtube.

The Henry Rollins one is probably my favorite.

Alan Alda as Arthur Sinclair
Carl Reiner as Jurgen Warmbrunn
Mark Hamill as Todd Wainio
Henry Rollins as T. Sean Collins
John Turturro as Seryosha Garcia Alvarez
Rob Reiner as "The Whacko"
