re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

TDK showed they can do a title without having Batman in it for the 1st time ever so doing something with batman in it would be regressing, just like having it be batman-focused (like tdk) would also be the same so they would probly up the ante and make it focused on something else...

He would be a great choice. But would people confuse him with Heath Ledger?

How does one confuse a living actor to a deceased one?

As I write this, pretty much the only things we know about Batman 3 (apart from the release date) is that the script is completed and Christopher Nolan will be back to direct. However, there have been more than enough rumors floating around to make up for the lack of solid news, and the most popular seems to be that The Riddler will be the main villain.

Well, I was contacted earlier today by an inside source who said while taking part in an internship at Warner Bros a few weeks ago: the buzz in the office was that the recent success of Inception, along with some heavy insistence from Christopher Nolan, means that one of three actors from the hit movie will play the villain and each of them are currently being considered for the role. Those actors are:

*Joseph Gordon-Levitt

*Leonardo DiCaprio

*Tom Hardy

Apparently, the studio is especially keen on allowing Nolan to hire one of the actors because of the extra publicity and attention it would bring to the movie (as did Christian Bale re-teaming with Christopher Nolan in The Prestige for example) while the fact they were all praised for their performances also plays a part.

As with any rumor from an "inside source," it's best to take this with a pinch of salt for now. Although a lot of the information that was shared with me certainly has me convinced! It's already been reported that Levitt is in the running for this role, while either DiCaprio or Hardy fit it equally well in my opinion. I think that all of them are fantastic actors and I'd love to see any of them bring The Riddler to life on the big screen! What do you think of this news? Have your say in the usual place! And if you've got any inside information you'd like to share, just click on the "Contact Me" link at the top left side of this page!

Jesus

Tom Hardy all the way.

I could see the studio wanting Dicaprio....and the role would be interesting change of pace and challenge for Leo.

JGV would be great also....although he was strangely inert in Inception.

I like all three choices if there's any truth to this.

Don't see it as anything but fan-casting; how is Hardy going to have time to film this and both Mad Max films?

Tom Hardy would be cool, as would Leo. JGL, I don't know. I like him, but he doesn't scream villain material to me. Then again, neither did Heath Ledger when he was announced.

re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

All three actors obviosuly have the chops to pull it off, although I wonder how different their takes would be on the role. All in all, sounds like a no lose situation if true.

Pfft. Just cast all three. Cast DiCaprio as Black Mask, have Hardy in as Jean Paul Valley and have Levitt cameo as Arnold Wesker (similar to Murphy as Johnathan Crane).

Yes, I made no mention of the Riddler. Given the character has been rumoured since before the release of TDK, I have my doubts he is indeed the villain of this movie.

I'm too lazy to re read the thread, but when Ledger was announced for "The Dark Knight" was the reception good, or was it alot of 'how the fuck can the guy from the gay cowboy movie be the joker?' (or was that one of the many threads on imdb

The very first reply was a "Brokeback Mountain" joke. And the overall reaction was not positive.

I'm gonna have to go with my boy JGL on this. All three guys are great picks and I would be very happy with the inclusion of any of them but I think I want to see Levitt in there the most.

I had no idea what Nolan saw in Ledger regarding that particular but was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because I thought Nolan was an excellent director and Ledger was an excellent actor. So I guess you could say my outlook was positive even though I had absolutely no idea what to expect.

I think JGL would be a really great choice for the Riddler.

Also, after re-reading my original opinion of Heath as the Joker in that thread, I guess, the joke's, on me..........

I think when pics of Heath in makeup got out that's when things got bad around here.

That thread pretty much perfectly sums up the way the internet as a whole reacted.

I don't see Dicaprio doing Batman, period. So that leaves JGL and Tom Hardy. I think Tom is too plain looking, so JGL is good with me.

I had the 1st reply and I liked the choice. A couple of inches taller than Bale and he was great in 10 Things I Hate About You. But I love the Joker and I buy too much Joker stuff and was going for a joke and I truly wish I could quit him.

That was my first thought as well. He could do Black Mask well. I'd go w/ JGL for The Riddler though.
