Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
After seeing the numbers Avengers has made, WB would also be in favor of killing Batman off here and rebooting him for JLA

I'm actually not completely sold on the idea that this will happen to be honest. I could be wrong but for some reason I get the feeling it won't happen. The movie is called The Dark Knight Rises. When I think of Rise I tend to think that Batman prevails in the end and plus we already had the downer ending with The Dark Knight. Now I could see Bruce either passing the mantle on to someone else (Blake possibly) and stepping down as Batman. I don't think Nolan will kill him off though.

Nobody is going to die in this film. Bane is just going to end up in Arkham like the rest of 'em.

I also don't think that Nolan will kill off Bruce, but I think he'd absolutely be willing to kill him off if that served the story Nolan wanted to tell. I think that's what Shannon Nutt was getting at.

LOL @ the "Is that real?" questions. Don't any of you go to actual movie sites? It's on the first page of every one.

That ad is a tad misleading since the first film wasn't shot in IMAX. Still, cool footage in that spot.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
Guess it's a true LieMAX TV Spot. :)
I don't believe Batman will die at the end of the film. I do believe that when all is said and done, Bruce Wayne will no longer be Batman. I believe Gotham will know Wayne was behind the mask and I believe (in some ways hope) that everyone knows who he is by the time that massive war in the daylight goes down. Might make it more powerful knowing Gotham is behind him while knowing who Batman really is. |
Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
Nolan likes to pick and choose random stuff from the comics that pique his interest. Maybe he was inspired by Millars original intended ending for The Dark Knight Returns (Batman was to die in a hail of gunfire) and chose to have Batman die fighting Bane in order to save the city. It does fit with his exchange with Catwoman.
"You've given them everything" "Not everything. Not yet." I do like the notion of everyone knowing Bruce is Batman during the daylight battle. |
Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
It also fits one the central themes of these films: masks and identity.
TDK was all about Batman wanting to find a hero without a mask, and Joker wanting Batman and all of Gotham to reveal who they truly were underneath, and maybe in the end, Wayne will see that he is that hero without a mask. Bane says in that prologue "no one cared who I was before I put on the mask". Same idea. Lose the masks, gain transparency and rebuild the trust, I guess. Then take that muzzled motherfucker down! |

I do believe that when all is said and done, Bruce Wayne will no longer be Batman. The comics have long established that "Batman" is a legacy that transcends beyond Bruce Wayne. Whenever Bruce has been out of commission, someone else would step in and become Batman. Jean Paul Valley became Batman in Knightfall. Dick Grayson became Batman twice, once during the Prodigal storyarc and then again after Final Crisis when Darkseid "killed" Bruce. So Nolan could use something like that, Batman as a legacy character. Bruce may end up crippled or dead, but Batman will live on. |
Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
The film had its first press screening, and these are some of the comments made by people who attended it:
* Wow. Quite speechless at the moment...."TDKR" was everything I wanted it to be. * So much awesome... can't wait to see it again. And again. And 9 out of 10 for me. I'd put "Amazing Spider-Man" at a 7.5 and "Avengers" at an 8.5. * This film was the perfect final chapter in the trilogy. * I think Bale gives his best performance as Batman and as Bruce Wayne in this one. * Nolan manages to convey this wild ride into 165 minutes of his best work. * "The Dark Knight Rises" is not only easily the best Batman movie yet, but now one of my favorite movies I've ever seen. It was unbelievable! * If this does not break the mold and win Best Picture, no comic book movie ever will. |
Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)
Looking forward to this, but also looking forward to a much more fun version of Batman. Bring on the next trilogy!

Bruce Wayne is Batman, but Batman isn't necessarily Bruce Wayne.

Nolan has said many times throughout the making and release of all three films that this is ultimately Bruce Wayne's story. In one of the recent interviews (I'm sure google will help since I don't recall specifically which) he said this is the story of one man's life - Bruce Wayne. It's very clear that when this film is over it will have a true ending, and if someone else became Batman at the end, that's not an ending. They're using lines like "The Legend Ends" and "The Epic Conclusion" because this is indeed the end of this particular trilogy. In Nolan's interpretation, There is no Batman without Bruce Wayne. I would think that was obvious by now. |

Killing off Bruce Wayne wouldn't really really excite me to go back and watch the Nolan films again if I knew he just ends up dead when it's said and done. I think it's more possible that he finally hangs up the Batman mantle. Maybe Bane will be the one guy that makes him break his "one rule". |
