I've always thought Tron was a cool idea and has some real iconic designs, but the actual movie is and always has been boring as hell. And I was born in 1976 so it was right in my wheelhouse.

That said, I'm excited for this because it looks like they remembered the cool designs but made, well I don't know but at least more action. So I'm going in with that mentality, and I really don't care what other people think about the franchise.

The small Tron attraction at Disneyland was shut down in the late '80s, now they've got a huge event. 99% of the public used to shit all over Tron for having antiquated design, a derivative script, and "cheesy" music. Suddenly everyone thinks Tron is retro-cool. I think on opening day the fair weather fans need to be at the back of the line. Anyone with me?

Was this tongue-in-cheek?

I hope to hell that's tongue-in-cheek

I'd say I'm more concerned about the amount of footage and info that's flying around about this movie.
I hope there is something left to see in the actual movie that we haven't already seen or been told about by Disney's marketing department.

The tone is tongue in cheak but I do resent some the band wagon jumping a bit. In 1995 Tron didn't have a single friend in the world. Now everyone is all fired up because Disney finally saw the light, and made a sequal.

Meh. Tron was the first DVD I ever purchased. At the rate I'm upgrading my home theater, Tron Legacy might be the first Blu-Ray disc I ever purchase. ;)

I was hoping that since Disney is going all out with Tron Legacy that Disney would release a blu-ray of the original Tron movie.

/\ Yeah, it does seem odd that it has not been announced. Perhaps they are waiting to release both at the same time?

There have already been rumors that Tron, along with other Disney live-action "classics," are in the process of being converted to 4K (if not already).

I'm sure we will see a Blu-ray release come sometime next year to coincide with the release of Legacy.

I thought earlier in the year we got some sort of word that a bluray of the original was going to come out around the time of the release.

My wife and I are going to Tron Night and I have to say, I've had the pleasure of meeting Tron Guy before. Real nice, charming guy.

Mixed reactions at my screening; minimal applause at the end. Visually, it's a treat...everything from the old arcade to the new technology. Acting, however, seems uniformly abysmal; while the Sam character does a decent job of channeling Bridges at times, he's annoying as shit, and Olivia Wilde acts like a giddy 12-year-old for some reason. That said, I still think it will be a lot of fun to watch.

Garret Hedlund looks like he has the acting range of Sam Worthington.

Not as concerned for the acting since it's only 20 minutes that we saw. That aside, I simply cannot wait to watch all of this. The Recognizer capture scenes was all it took for me to get hooked. That was simply an amazing sequence. The others were pretty damn good as well. I am curious as to what's up with Flynn now. Seems like an interesting story going on there. I was suprised we did actually see him though. Thank goodness all of the scenes shown are from the first half of the movie only.

Overall, this is a childhood favorite come back to life for me. I had the same giddy feeling as when I saw Tron for the first time.

can December 7th come any sooner?? I can not wait for the Daft Punk album, supposedly they are riding the shirt tails of this movie, with a tour in 2011 - some folk say they sold out, but I say, they seem like the perfect choice for Tron Legacy's music score.

as for the movie, I simply can't see any reason why to see this in 35mm, 4K digital projection and 70mm IMAX should look a-MA-zing!

I didn't see the preview, but this is pretty much what I expected from the trailers/clips: amazing visuals, shit acting. Still excited though.

No way is it a sell out. They are perfect for it. No one would accuse Wendy Carlos of selling out by doing the first film, and she's an esoteric "artist" if there ever was one.

There's no way they're selling out. They love TRON. It's easy to see that. To see them used in the film like that is great. Now they can use their style to fully complement their love for the film.

I have never understood how they can cast someone who cant act in the lead role for a tent pole movie with a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Its like putting together a Formula One team around a race car driver who cant drive.

It worked out ok for Avatar.

But I agree that Hedlund seems like all kinds of bad here. His "lost track of time" line has become a total joke among my friends.

Lovin' every bit of it - except CLU. Dammit, I just don't like the CGI'd Jeff Bridges. I hope it doesn't derail the experience.

tylergfoster 11-09-10 11:45 PM

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

I think the only problem with the CG Jeff Bridges is that the face is always abnormally "in focus". The shot at the front door near the beginning is better in this trailer than the others. The rest, I can accept (I think the one where the helmet comes off is pretty much perfect).
