Well, I don't see Atonement getting it, so I still say No Country for Old Men will win BP (though I'd be just as happy with There Will Be Blood).

I may be in the minority on this, but I hope Juno doesn't win anything. It's not that I didn't like it or don't think it deserved a nomination or two; I just don't think it's worthy of winning any of its categories. They'll probably give it screenplay though.

No surprise on Rats getting an Original Screenplay, it along w/ the Incredibles had potential Best Pic nods if it weren't for Best Animated catagory.

Though, Rats isn't a lock as Persepolis gets a lot of love.

The Golden Compass for Visual Effects? Really? Hmm. They weren't terrible, but are not in the same league as POTC3 and Transformers.

fixed.

Sorry, but I thought the visuals for "POTC3" were hideous. CGI overload. Liked "Transformers". But "Compass" is the best of the three IMO.

POTC3 at least had somewhat convincing CG, Compass had obvious (with numerous shots looking more like a CG animated flick than anything) shots that didn't fit with the film at all.

Too each their own I suppose. POTC3s weren't mind blowing but they were certainly better than Compass's VFX. (The CG on the bears was really damn distracting)

I mentioned last year several times that Little Miss Sunshine would not win Best Picture because it did not receive an Editing nomination. The reason? It had been, I think, 25 straight years that the Best Picture winner had to at least been nominated for Editing. I'm sticking with that streak this year. No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood are the only BP nominees to have gotten an Editing nomination. And both have 8 nominations each. This is a 2-movie race. I'm leaning towards No Country...for now.

I'd have to agree, Joe Wright got jobbed, but I would have taken "Atonement" out of the Best Picture nominees (replaced it with "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly").

The one poster had it incorrect on the last page.

The Editing nominees are:
"The Bourne Ultimatum" (Universal): Christopher Rouse
"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" (Miramax/Pathé Renn): Juliette Welfling
"Into the Wild" (Paramount Vantage and River Road Entertainment): Jay Cassidy
"No Country for Old Men" (Miramax and Paramount Vantage) Roderick Jaynes
"There Will Be Blood" (Paramount Vantage and Miramax): Dylan Tichenor

Atonement also failed to get a Director nomination. So it's done.

I am pleased that Juno got nominated for the major awards (Director/Picture) and Ellen Page for Actress. I guess Ebert was on to something by selecting Juno as the best movie of 2007.

Is Cate Blanchett's nomination for Elizabeth: The Golden Age the first time the same person has been nominated twice for the same role?

Paul Newman was nominated for The Hustler and won for The Color of Money (and I think there's another example), but this might be the shortest gap between roles.

Well if there's any justice, the votes for the three songs from Enchanted will be split, giving the movie Once an Oscar.

No Joe Wright for Atonement direction?

Nice to see no Juno backlash for nominations and Day-Lewis should waltz home with the Oscar....the man has a certain intensity as if he's consumed by a character.

I need to let the nominations sink in over coffee this morning, but have every intention of seeing every Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Direction, Supporting Actor and Actress at the theatre before the show is broadcast (assuming there's a broadcast vs. a news conference )

These nominees are very disapointing for the most part. Michael Clayton and Juno get Best Picture nominations and Sweeney Todd does not. This is wrong. It is just incorrect. A mistake. No Tim Burton!!!! No score for THERE WILL BE BLOOD!!!!!

And for those keeping track:
Transformers: 3 Nominations
Norbit: 1 Nomination
Zodiac: 0 Nominations!!!!!!!

If THERE WILL BE BLOOD wins all 8 of the awards it is nominated for I will be happy though.

I'm happy that I got nominated in all major categories except for Best Actress.

... but I don't think I'll win any of them.

Cheering for No Country and There Will Be Blood, glad to see them get the recognition they deserve. Other than Score and Supporting Actress, I really hope Atonement doesn't steal any other awards. Glad to see the (few)nominations for The Assassination of Jesse James for supporting actor and especially Cinematography... when I saw that film I thought immediately "this needs to win the Oscar for best Cinematography"... Regardless of the film, it'll definitely be between Elswitt and Deakins. Overall a very solid list (with the exceptions of the Zodiac/Hairspray snubs and the inexplicable Norbit nom).

Of course, no Zodiac nods. Good job Academy!

Also, they had to throw in that one total WTF nod. This time it goes to Tommy Lee Jones for In the Valley of Elah. A movie that has had ZERO buzz in the last 3 months.

I never saw Norbit, but it got nominated for make-up. Since that categorey is usually pretty weak, I can't see what the problem is. A crappy movie can still have good elements to it.

I really like the nominations this year. I think Amy Adams got snubbed for Enchanted but that's about it. As much as I love Zodiac I knew it wasn't getting anything. Happy to see Juno get a bunch of nominations.

And let's all cheer that American Gangster did not garner a Best Pic, Best Actor, or Director nomination.

Aside from Zodiac and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead combining for 0 nominations, I'm pretty happy with the choices overall. I'm of course pulling for There Will Be Blood, but I think No Country will prevail. Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem are the only locks I see at this point.

I would have liked to see Emile Hirsch in over Viggo Mortensen. I wasn't blown away by his performance. But I guess fighting naked and using a Russian accent lands you a nomination.

I think Juno and No Country for Old Men are serious Oscar candidates, especially the latter film.

Very excited for Saoirse Ronan, Michael Clayton and Roger Deakins!

Not cool that Frank Langella went unrecognized no matter how small the film was - deserved it more than George Clooney even though I thought he was good in Michael Clayton.
