Saw the Red Band trailer.

Even though it's apparent that the action scenes are over-the-top, the fact that they are releasing this under an "R" rating draws me in considering all the toned down action films that have been released recently. Plus there's something attractive when you hear Morgan Freeman say "Motherf**ker!"

another action movie... is angelina ever going to be in any other kind of movie? The only one i can think of is life or something like it, when she played a blonde news anchor

Cause all her other "non-action" movies seem to have made a lasting mark on you...

A Mighty Heart (for which she was nominated for a bunch of awards for best actress)
The Good Sheperd
Taking Lives
Beyond Borders
Life or Something Like It
Original Sin
Girl, Interrupted
The Bone Collector
Pushing Tin
Playing By Heart
Gia

and so on. MOST of her bio is filled with movies that are NOT "another action movie."

Exactly. Her last action movie was three years ago... Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

I watched Daywatch the other day - haven't seen Nightwatch. It was alright. I can't say that I was thrilled. But it has some really solid scenes.

These 'techno action' movies haven't really gotten the "works in it's own world" technique down yet. Ehhh...maybe possibly The Matrix. I'm still waitin' for one that blows my mind. In the 80's [and a little in the 90's] we had all of Joel Silver's action movies and stuff. Those are all over the top and really exciting. But I haven't felt that excitement much with this ultra-hip flashy stuff. Frankly, it's all a bit dull.

Shoot 'em Up was so-so. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again.

Wanted looks OK. I'm not really excited about it. Compared to the newer theatrical trailer, the TV spots are relatively weak. I wonder if it'll impact the movie's success.

I'll probably go see it with my Dad some Sunday. But it's not one of those movies that I feel I NEED to see.

Morgran Freeman always brings some class to action flicks.

First slew of reviews are up at Rottentomatoes:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1174279-wanted/

5 reviews, 5 fresh, 0 rotten (2 "top critics")

"Angelina's first line in the movie is "You apologize too much." The movie itself never does."
Luke Y. Thompson
L.A. Weekly

"Call it the fast and the furious Russian style: Bekmambetov has made a fast moving, relentlessly violent film that injects visceral frills and thrills into the action genre with a cool and sardonic sensibility that would please Tarantino and Rodriguez."
Emanuel Levy
EmanuelLevy.Com

"Wanted's a corporate product, but, thankfully, it's an excellent one -- the two-fisted, double-barreled high-octane guilty pleasure summer action movie you've been waiting for."
James Rocchi
Cinematical

"Like it or not, Wanted pretty much slams you to the back of your chair from the outset and scarcely lets up for the duration."
Todd McCarthy
Variety

"This over-the-top, ultraviolent, hyperkinetic action thriller pretty much has it all."
Michael Rechtshaffen
Hollywood Reporter

Also cranking things up a couple of extra notches are resident Michael Bay cinematographer Mitchell Amundsen, Oliver Stone's longtime editor David Brenner and prolific composer Danny Elfman, who skillfully dispenses with anything that could be mistaken for subtlety.
Haha, the superfriends of over the top. Sounds like a brutal, fun summer movie.

Wow, an ultra-violent R-rated action movie in the midst of summer...AND it's getting good reviews? Count me in one of the seats by the end of the weekend.

Despite all the silliness of the movie, the positive reviews have got me interested. I think I'll check it out.

To comment on the Angelina Jolie thing, yeah Mr. & Mrs. Smith was like 3 years ago, but it's pretty much the last movie I (or movie going public based on B.O.) could remember her doing and it's pretty much the same role. So, I think the criticism is warranted.

After watching the 7 minute clip, I'm in. McAvoy apologizing to the cop as the car flipped overhead had me.

I wasn't too impressed by the trailer, but after the good early reviews and hearing its an "ultraviolent" R, I'm probably going this weekend.

I was reading some of the reviews and some of the ones that they have listed as positive are actually pretty negative in the review. I've never understood how RT determines if a review is a positive or negative.

Just returned from one. I'll try to do an in-depth review, let's just say this for now: I'm eating mass amounts of crow for writing this off. I thought it'd be like Crank or Shoot 'Em Up at best, horribly lame at worst, I got something more Kill Bill-caliber instead. Thumbs way, way up.

Wanted is what Shoot 'Em Up wanted to be. Much, much better than I expected. I and the rest of the audience cheered and applauded at the end.

I caught a midnight showing last night.

It's stupid, but it's a fun movie. Any movie that has a crowd cheering and clapping at certain points wins for engaging the audience so well.

Yeah, its W-squared this weekend with Wall-E and Wanted... The comic was great and been pretty excited about this one. Although doesnt seem too faithful, looks like a blast.

I hope this movie is a big hit. I'd kill to see it do $200 million...this is the surprise hit of the summer IMO.

That won't happen.

With Wall-E, Hancock, and Dark Knight coming out in the next few weeks. I hope I'm wrong though
