what a big surprise! this movie was MAGIC!

i've been trashing the marketing of this film for months now cos the posters makes it look like another POTC straight-to-DVD rip off and with stars like Michelle Pfeiffer,Robert De Niro and Claire Danes as the main cast,it makes it look like a Princess Bride cheap ass sequel that would open in the Valentine's Day of 1997,face to face with Vegas Vacation,lol...but it wasn't any of that...not even close.maybe that was Paramount strategy? i think it's a BIG mistake they released in August.

yes the movie could've been alot better and the story is another "they lived happily ever after" story...but still it's a very very well done and you feel and care for the characters....plus,it's very funny too.and ABOVE ALL,unlike many fantasy movies, the movie kept moving on.

Ian McKellen's voice gives it the LOTR kinda of edgyness,Michelle Pfeiffer...i can't think of anyone better to play that role,Robert De Niro unexpected role is one of his best in years!...Ricky Gervais is well ...Ricky Gervais (he is god in my book) the funniest scenes in the movie are when he shows up.Claire Danes gives another great performance.and finally,a star was born,Charlie Cox ladies and gentlemen, what a handsome fellow! (did i say that out loud?!)

all in all...i loved it...still iam not sure if i'll remember this movie in the next couple of years. 7/10

And I'm not really sure how an actor playing Morpheus would be portrayed on film.

First, he's white. As in bone and snow. It might look really odd to have an actor appear that way, either physically with make-up or through an optical effect like CGI or color-timing.

And there's also the problem of his eyes. Seeing Dream's eyes would seem really strange. I suppose they could CGI out his eyes and cast his eye sockets in those ever-present shadows, while adding "stars" where his pupils would be. It might require a hell of actor to give the character the depth and emotion necessary without seeing his eyes.

Could look really neat or really bad.

That's why I was suggesting animation.

I saw this tonight. What a great little fantasy film that didn't disappoint me at all. I felt it was surprisingly entertaining for being a fairly safe "family" film and I can imagine older children as well as adults enjoying this.

Deniro really steals the show in a Capt. Jack sorta way.

I heard Adam Buxton (Hot Fuzz) is in this, is it true and if so, how large is his part?

this movie really really surprised me - I loved it... however I have a question that was probably answered in the first four pages of this thread - I'm too tired to back track to find the answer, what purpose was the lightning acquired by the pirates bought by their clients - electricity?

I assume so, although Tristan uses it as a weapon too at one point. They never really elaborated on what they were collecting it for, but it didn't really matter within the plot anyway.

My wife and I watched it on thursday night, there was only 6 of us in the theater. We both loved it. I loved the concepts that stars are alive, and that you can "collect" lightning. Claire Danes played her part perfectly. And the f/x they used on her was great.

And Michell Pfeiffer can still bring it. My goodness she was beautiful.

well, I for one thought this was going to suck. trailers did nothing for me at all, but the lady really wanted to see it so of course I obliged.

WOW. way better than I could have imagine, a lot of fun, great little fantasy with a terrific cast.

I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars of 5

the trailers I thought were terrible compared to the actual film.

Agree with most everyone here. I was expecting to be disappointed, as the trailers were weak. But I loved it. Absolutely great performances from Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Charlie Cox, Rickey Gervais, and Claire Danes. Especially Michelle Pfeiffer, she was amazing.

But nowhere near as enduring or quote-worthy as The Princess Bride in my opinion. The Bus falling asleep in The Princess Bride? Inconceivable!

Stardust will be a must buy for me on DVD. Solid B/B+, possibly A- (I was way too sleepy to fully enjoy it last night, so I'll be seeing it again next week.)

got this from imdb...

It's called Rule the World and is by a band called Take That. It's not been released anywhere yet and isn't on the soundtrack. It's being released in the UK in October.

alas, i can't even find it at my mp3 dl service

I didn't realize that the UK theatrical release wasn't til Oct. 19 - I'm sure the Take That song will get released as a CD-single, since the band and the song might prove popular.

Saw this Tues on a date and we loved it! I wasnt too sure but she chose and it was alot better than I expected. Tons better than the Princess Bride since I didnt have to put up with that shit Fred Savage. Though the Deniro Butt Pirate was a bit from left field. Not to mention he kept the new york accent

I just got back from seeing it and loved it. I saw the trailer months ago and was intrigued by the concept. The trailer did not do the movie any justice at all.
Sure its one of those safe family fairy tails but as others have said, there was just something magical about it. Hope this movie gets a huge following on dvd.

Saw this last night and loved it. Really well done overall and such a great cast playing great characters.

Wish it did better, but I'm sure it will find it's market on home video.

I wish it had done better also. Sometimes it really saddens me when a movie that has the potential to be a well-loved hit doesn't find its audience. This might have been one of those films that may have found an audience over time back when a movie didn't live and die by its opening numbers.

I saw it with a fairly large audience (mainly due to the presence of my movie club) and we were really into the film. We laughed a lot particularly at De Niro's scenes.

I think we have a cult film in the making - alot of people aren't seeing this as demonstrated by it's BO performance, but everyone I've talked to as enjoyed it immensely. Come on folks, spread the word on this fun great movie.

This movie had two strikes against it right out of the gate. First, the horrible trailer. And second, the release date. I agree Christmas would have been an ideal time, but not against "The Golden Compass". Perhaps Thanksgiving? Either way, it was a wonderful film and my favorite this summer.

Fantastic movie. Both my wife and I really enjoyed it. The comparisons to The Princess Bride are legitimate, but I'll need to see it a couple of more times before I can say for sure.

Curious about all these "Princess Bride" comparisons, I rented and watched it last night. First time I've ever seen it. First, the only thing I think they have in common is that they're both fractured fairy tales. But I have to say, I didn't love "TPB". It was o.k., but certainly not great IMO. The writing was very good. But I found the direction and pacing to be somewhat weak and slow. And the sets and special effects kind of cheap. Again, I enjoyed it. But don't feel it's a classic.
