Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Let's remember artistically...the 80s was a bad decade. The greatest thing in the world in that decade was action movies. American and HK for sure..it was gold!!!! Also...Ninjas galore. So Sly was doing his best shit in the 80s for the most part. His time in the 90s...well it started to slump here sadly...but he's back and seems to want to blow his load on movies w/ the GREATEST ACTION MOVIE EVER!!!!! So it's all good.

I have never seen Oscar, I should probably catch up with that, but I thought his comedic turns in 'Rhinestone' and 'Stop Or My Mom will Shoot' were almost embarrassing.
But, hey, he's a likable guy and I'm hoping he delivers in spades with 'The Expendables'.

More 'Superman' Rumors: Zachary Levi Auditions, Jonathan Nolan to Direct?
http://www.cinematical.com/2010/07/1...athan-nolan-t/
Looks like it's about that time for the Superman rumors to start infiltrating our Man of Steel-lovin' brains as folks at Warner Bros. apparently move toward the next step of production by seeking out a director and star. While last week's rumor that Chris Columbus was up for the directorial gig was quickly debunked, the fact that we're beginning to hear more and more rumblings probably means the wheels are definitely beginning to turn.
This latest rumor comes from Geek Tyrant, who claim their sources "on the lot" have informed them that Jonathan Nolan (Christopher Nolan's brother) is currently the "unannounced director" of the new Superman movie. The other Nolan has been rumored to be up for the gig ever since his brother came onboard to sort of "godfather" the project with writer David Goyer. I'm not sure if Warners would give such a large project to a first-time director like Jonathan, especially with Christopher off waist-deep in another Batman movie and not readily available to help his brother out. That said, if there was a package deal agreed upon when Nolan and Goyer came on -- and if that deal involved Jonathan directing the movie -- then maybe there is some truth to it. If that wasn't originally part of the deal, though, then I just don't see them trusting this big of a movie to a first-time director. But I guess we'll see.
The other part of the rumor is a lot more intriguing to me as it signals the start of another casting circus. And if it's anything like the recent Spider-Man casting debacle, then we're in for one heckuva overly annoying ride. Find out who they're looking at after the jump ...
I really dig Zachary Levi. If it was up to me, I'd halt everything right here and sign the guy up to play Superman. One thing Levi brings to the table that Routh didn't is instant charisma. You can't help but like the guy. If you've watched the TV show Chuck, then you're familiar with Levi -- you know he can do the clumsy, fish-out-of-water thing -- but at the end of the day he's got a great contemporary Clark Kent look going on, and he's definitely capable of turning on the action if need be. Plus he's not too big of a name, but he's familiar enough to get people excited about the project. I like Levi. I like Levi a lot.
Whether or not this is just another bogus rumor or if there's some truth to it, we don't really know just yet (I'd expect to hear denials from the Levi camp within 24 hours). What do you think about Levi as Superman? Does he work? And what about Jonathan Nolan as director? Shouldn't the guy have to prove himself in front of the camera before landing one of the biggest (and most important) directorial gigs of the decade?

Zachary Levi as Clark/Supes? Wow, that's huge. I'm totally down with that. Sign him now, avoid the casting circus that all these movies tend to go through.

No to Levi. Go with another unknown.
Although, it is kind of interesting that he is now rumored for the role, as he has shared considerable screentime with both Routh and Matthew Bomer on Chuck, as well as Adam Baldwin, who voiced Supes in Superman Doomsday.

At first I thought it was stupid, but then the article made me think. He is a modern day Clark Kent, he can do the action, and he has a good look. It could work...

This. Routh is the perfect Superman in my opinion. He was excellent as Superman even in a mediocre movie, so I'm definitely holding out the hope that he will be cast again.

I totally agree.. I really liked Routh, and besides, I'm tired of constant recasts in the superhero movies.

The problem with him being Superman was the script. EVERYTHING ELSE about him was fine. He played a good Kent. Just.....Superman...didn't talk....much. also....I KNOW wtf he does all the time..he saves people. Gimme something where Superman actually has a real fight for his life and hey! Earth can be at stake too! Just get a good script.

I've been watching White Collar lately and know that Matthew Bomer was up for the role and think he'd be a solid choice if they want to start anew and not go with Routh again (though I hope they do).

LOVE ROTH!!!! He is perfect for Clark/Supes.
Bring on S3. Brainiac or Darkseid are the only two that will make the movie awesome. Darkseid gets my vote.
It will make tons of money and sell boat loads of BR.
Do you hear us DC/Warner?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought with the rumors of Nolan being on board for this that this movie was going to be a sort of start over/origins story for Superman. If that is the case I think that while Routh was a good fit for the role they should go with someone else so as not to confuse the new film for a sequel to Superman Returns. If on the other hand this is going to be a sequel to that movie I'd have no problem with Routh being brought back.
One thing I'd like to see in this new film is have a different villain besides Lex Luthor. I realize that he's Superman's main villain but it seems like that's the only character ever used as a villain in the Superman movies and its getting really old. I'm not that huge on Superman so I don't know about his entire rogues gallery but there has to be others that could be used.

Maybe have Lex behind the scenes using the other super powered villian as muscle. Go with the CEO route like in the cartoon. Superman knows he's evil but he can't prove anything so he can't touch him.

I also don't have a problem with more Lex. I would just have a problem with a poorly written Lex. In fact, Spacey was fine in the role, but it was just written very poorly. Although I'm sure Clancy Brown is free too.
