Another vote for Routh. No need to recast that role. Just offer him a brand new contract.

Keep Routh, dump the rest. The last one actually had promise for the first hour or so, then it just decided to play it safe by being the first one all over again with glitzier FX.
My guess is that Nolan will be getting an Exec Producer credit or something equivalent to the "Steven Spielberg Presents" of days past.

I think they need to start from scratch.
I really hope that if they reboot this franchise they get another actor who actually looks like a superman, and not try to get another Christopher Reeve.
I loved Superman 1 and 2, but I loved Christopher Reeve in the role. However, 20 years later, I don't want to see a Christopher Reeve-like actor being Superman again.
They need to finally get someone who looks like the comic book counterpart.

Glad to see so many liking Routh - he definitely stood alone from the rest of the cast and did a damn good job (without being hammy on the parts that somewhat required him to be as well).
Is this damn movie ever going to be made?

I liked the idea that was bandied by AICN: a period piece by the Coen Brothers, based on the graphic novel "The Early Years." But a modern take in capable hands would be fine as well.

David Goyer is doing the next Superman movie. No word yet will it be Dark City/Blade "good" Goyer or Unborn/Blade:Trinity/pretty much everything except Dark City and Blade "baaaad" Goyer.

No Routh? John Byrne style? Ugh.
Geoff Johns needs to forgo sleep and hammer out a script for this.

Incredibly unhappy about no Routh, but I will still hold out hope that it turns out to be a good movie.
Seriously, who else would you get for Superman at this point?
Not so big on the comics so I don't know why "Byrne" style is a bad thing. Can someone explain?

David Goyer is a douche and his movies are mostly crap. They should've given it to Nolan's brother.

Well, Superman Returns was almost 4 years ago now, so I have moved on from Routh and look forward to a new Superman. I'm sure they'll find someone who will do a good job.
I like the fact that the new story will involve Brainiac, so at least Supes will have someone to battle. I don't mind Lex being in it again.

Sounds like they might be following the storyline utilized from the early days of the animated series from WB (which might have been Byrne inspired for all I know) in which Brainiac is plays a role in Krypton's destruction.

OK, well, I'm done. I said it before, no Routh....no me. Buh bye Superman.

I don't get the overreaction about Routh potentially NOT being Superman. He was very good in the role but it's not like he's the ONLY person who can play it, nor does it mean there aren't a host of talented actors who could do even better.

Personally, I'd like to see Tom Welling in the role.

No way. Tom is serviceable in Smallville but he's too weak an actor to carry a whole movie.

Jon Hamm = Ass hole
Superman needs to be likable. And superman needs to have a soul as well unlike Brandon Routh's zombie interpretation of Bizarro.

I've been saying that for a while, but in an interview with MTV the other day he seems to have shot down the idea of playing Superman:
“I don’t know,” he said when asked if he’d consider a role in a comic book movie. “It’s a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they’re not flawed. Superman is Superman — he’s invincible, so where’s the drama?”
“I think what people are finding with the success of things like “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” “Iron Man,” it’s much more interesting to talk about the person behind these heroic personae rather than the flying, shooting fire and lasers and all this other stuff,” continued. “Although it has been interesting to see the evolution of the comic book film, because technology has essentially caught up with the ability to tell those stories.”
