Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
The involvement of Lex Luthor and Darkseid actually sounds silly when I think about it. Lex Luthor has been so "Joel Schumachered" in all of the Superman movies, this is why I can't stand him any more Superman flicks. I know it's sad to judge a movie based on its toys, but when Superman Returns came out, there was something very depressing about seeing all those Superman figures on the racks with no other villain action figure for him to fight. From a marketing perspective, what's gonna sell more - another Lex Luthor action figure that kids don't buy, or a Darkseid action figure?

I think I would love Lex Luthor to create like some sort of monster, maybe he invades a scientist lab and mistakenly creates a pandemic where a huge beast is form. But I wouldn't want Superman dwelling with fucking outer space aliens and stuff like that. That shit is just whack and only meant for comic books. Make Lex Luthor create some devious shit, and get away from that stupid kryntonite scheme he is always using against Superman. |

^^^
haha true. I should have wrote like taking place outside of Earth like on another alien planet and stuff. But would be so cool if in the new Superman movie there would be like an alien invasion and Superman protecting the people. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Why shouldn't Superman be doing stuff out of earth? If it's done right, it'll work.
I was just thinking this but....If there's a Green Lantern in every sector...shouldn't there have been a GL in Krypton's sector? I know...it's stupid to bring it up but...isn't there a GL for pretty much every section of space? |

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Yeah, I agree that no matter wtf Supes does out of Earth. I think it'd have to end on Earth otherwise all the danger for Earth is gone. Yeah, we worry for Superman but..he's indestructible...it's what he protects that isn't and therefore all that great drama for him.
I wonder if my GL question could be answered..hell maybe there was one and it's mentioned. Yeah, you're right I guess..it'd make sense. A GL can only do so much but to stop a planet from blowing up..yeah. Might need more than one. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I said it earlier, but a Red Son take would be awesome, especially with Green Lantern being filmed.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
That was an elseworlds thing. Why would we want a film about a Communist Supes? It was an interesting story sure....

Why is it only America cinema that adapts famous superhero movies? Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are famous almost everywhere. I want to see a foreign production of a famous superhero. There was the Japanese Spiderman show in the 70s...and I would like to see Japan do a better Transformers films. The two Transformer movies were entertaining, but those weren't Transformers - those were Bionicles. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
A Japanese Transformers movie would suck. For every Casshern the Japanese churn out a dozen Devil Man (live action). The odds of a good Japanese Transformers movie are about as likely as Michael Bay not feeling tempted to ruin his movies with retarded crap.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
An awesome action scene in a Superman movie would be Superman battling someone (Darksied for example) on every planet of our solar system. We have already seen simulated scenes of the sun, moon, and Mars in movies. I want to see simulated environments of Mercury, Neptune, Uranus (he he), Pluto, Jupiter (just a hint in Hyams' 2010 film), and Saturn. It would be an exciting and interesting scene.

Tomar-Re
http://www.lanternasverdes.com/tomarre.jpg Tomar's most famous mission while serving in the Corps dealt with the planet Krypton. Krypton, a planet in sector 2813, was growing increasingly unstable. It was due to explode, caused by internal pressures deep inside the planet's core. Tomar Re sought to use a rare compound called stellarium to absorb some of the tectonic pressure, thus saving the Kryptonians. He gathered the compound, and was en route to Krypton when a yellow solar flare blinded him, and forced him to drop the stellarium. He quickly recovered, but discovered he was blind. He gathered what little stellarium he could without his sight, and proceeded towards Krypton. He was closing in when his vision started to clear. The first thing he saw upon his sight returning was Krypton exploding. The Guardians recovered Tomar and brought him back to Oa, where he healed and rested. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Besides the overusage of Lex and krypytonite, I dont think I can take another scene that involves Clark Kent and Daily Planet as well. If they connect the sequel to Superman Returns, i just hope he learns to leave lois lane and kid alone - let them have their own lives.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I actually like the Planet stuff. But I think the only time it was used effectively was in the animated series and, believe it or not, in Lois & Clark. I like to see Clark using his skills and resources as a reporter to aid him in his work as Superman. That's something the movies never handled all too well.
Great find, stingermck. I knew of that Lantern but never knew he was once assigned to Krypton. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Yeah, I like that little synopsis of what happened. Sucks to know that the 1st thing you saw with your vision again was the failure of your saving the planet. Damn. I need to see some of those issues. That's a very interesting part for sure.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Yeah. That'd be badass. Wonder what little bit of Drama it'd cause Supes? I mean it's not directly the GL's fault but...I mean...to know your planet was close to a possible salvation and find out this GL was not able to make in time, even with all that trouble, would still kinda tick me off.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Remember that crappy J.J. Abrams script I told you guys about? It was apparently called Superman: Flyby. Wikipedia added some info about it in their Superman (film series) page:
Turning in his script in July 2002, J. J. Abrams' Superman: Flyby movie was an origin story that included Krypton besieged by civil war between Jor-El and his corrupt brother, Kata-Zor. Jor-El launches infant Kal-El to Earth, thinking he would fulfill a certain prophecy and Jor-El is sentenced to prison. Kal-El is adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent, and later forms a romance with Lois Lane in college, and at the Daily Planet. However, Lois is more concerned with exposing Lex Luthor, written as a government agent obsessed with UFO phenomena. Clark reveals himself to the world as Superman, bringing Kata-Zor’s son, Ty-Zor, and three other Kryptonians to Earth. Superman is defeated and killed, and visits Jor-El (who committed suicide on Krypton while in prison) in Kryptonian heaven. He's resurrected and defeats the four Kryptonians, while the script ends with Superman off to Krypton, leaving a cliffhanger for a sequel. Brett Ratner signed to direct in September 2002, originally expressing an interest in casting an unknown for the lead role, while filming was to start sometime in late 2003. Ratner approached Josh Hartnett and Jude Law as Superman, but conceded that finding a famous actor for the title role had proven difficult because of contractual obligations to appear in sequels. "No star wants to sign that, but as much as I've told Jude and Josh my vision for the movie, I've warned them of the consequences of being Superman. They'll live this character for 10 years because I'm telling one story over three movies and plan to direct all three if the first is as successful as everyone suspects." Hartnett was offered $100 million for a three-picture deal, but turned down the offer. Although Superman: Flyby was being met with a budget exceeding $200 million (not including money spent on Superman Reborn, Superman Lives and Batman vs. Superman), the studio was still adamant for a summer 2004 release date. Christopher Walken was in negotiations for Perry White, while Ratner expressed an interest in casting Anthony Hopkins as Lex Luthor, and Ralph Fiennes as Jor-El (two of his cast members in Red Dragon). Christopher Reeve was to be a project consultant, citing Tom Welling, who portrayed the teenage Clark Kent in Smallville as an ideal candidate. Reeve added "the character is more important than the actor who plays him, because it is an enduring mythology. It definitely should be an unknown." In addition Paul Walker was offered the role, while Ashton Kutcher screen tested and Brendan Fraser and Matthew Bomer auditioned. Kutcher decided not to accept the role, citing scheduling conflicts with That '70s Show and the well noted Superman Curse as well as typecasting. Jerry O'Connell expressed interest for the role, while David Boreanaz auditioned, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with Angel. Victor Webster did an entire screentest that included wardrobe as both Clark Kent and Superman. Joel Edgerton (who turned down the chance to audition as Superman) auditioned for Ty-Zor, before Ratner dropped out of the project in March 2003, blaming casting difficulties, and violent disagreements with Jon Peters. McG returned as director, while Fraser expressed interest, but had fears of typecasting. Selma Blair was in talks for Lois Lane, while ESC Entertainment was hired for visual effects work, with Kim Libreri as visual effects supervisor and Stan Winston designing a certain "prototype suit". McG approached Shia LaBeouf for Jimmy Olsen, with an interest to cast an unknown for Superman, Scarlett Johansson as Lois Lane and Johnny Depp for Lex Luthor. Neal H. Moritz and Gilbert Adler were set to produce the film. McG also commissioned Josh Schwartz to do a "polish" of the Abrams script. He wanted to shoot in Canada, which would have cost $25 million more than WB's preferred Oz locale. McG shot test footage with several candidates, including Jason Behr, Henry Cavill and Jared Padalecki. McG dropped out of directing, blaming budgetary concerns and filming locations. McG opted to shoot in New York City and Canada, but Warner Bros. wanted Sydney, Australia. McG felt "it was inappropriate to try to capture the heart of America on another continent." He later admitted it was his fear of flying. Abrams lobbied for the chance to direct his script. However, in July 2004, Bryan Singer replaced McG as director, resulting in Superman Returns. |
