Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I'd love a reboot, while I kind of agree with losing the original theme at the same time I don't. I suggest use the cartoon theme? That one had a cool theme...

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
The cartoon theme was great but I'd vote no. Again, a new movie and subsequent series should stand on its own. Its main theme would be its identity. It shouldn't ride on the coattails of what came before.

It's too bad Warner Bros. is most likely like any other studio and doesn't accept unsolicited scripts. There's one I've been working off and on for a while as a sort of writer's block excercise. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback for it (amidst some negative - the best kind - which I gladly used to imrpove it) and sometimes daydream of how cool it'd be to get to sell it. Heck, reading a lot of posts from people in this and other threads on this site, I think plenty here could deliver some solid stories and or scripts of their own. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Reboot sounds awesome. If they do it right. But I don't know about getting rid of the score.
MICHAEL BAY SHOULD DIRECT!!!!!!:bmonkey: |

Is your script a reboot or a sequel to Returns?

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I'm for a reboot, but not for ditching the score. That is almost as definitive of Superman IMO as the outfit and him flying.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
If they want to call it Superman: Man Of Steel, then film it like Byrne's Man Of Steel reboot from the 80's.
I loved that Clark was a popular football player in high school and that the adult Kent wasn't a big pussy like the same old stuff. It was a nice change of pace. Ma and Pa Kent lived, Ma Kent sewed his cape, Clark had women attracted to him...shit like that. It's been awhile since I read the series but those are all the things I remembered from the origin story when it was originally released. And fucking keep Routh. The guy is a perfect Superman and going with the above idea would let him play it a little more fresh and not have to ape Reeve's flawless portrayal of Clark Kent...even though he did it perfectly in Returns. And I see the reasoning behind dumping the old theme...but Jeez...it is so iconic. It's hard to imagine watching a Superman movie without it. It was no big deal doing different music with Batman since Elfman created an entirely forgettable score (as he does with all his movies) with Burton's version. If they did a true reboot with new ideas, having the old theme song would not weigh it down. It could still give you goosebumps and remain fresh as long as the story is done correctly. |

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
 No. My script involved Darkseid and his quest for the Anti Life equation. I was inspired by the second issue of Superman: The Dark Side (the only issue I read) and just fashioned my story on a concept similar to that. However, my version only added a few twists to the cannon rather than change it altogether as that Elseworlds story did.
It begins in Warworld (just for the opening action sequence), has some character intros on Apokolips, and the rest (and vast majority) takes place on Earth. I also took some inspiration from Byrne in that Superman was first seen in action out of costume. |

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Slashfilm says:
Are we ever going to get to the bottom of these Superman shenanigans? Earlier this year, a rumor started circulating that the Wachowski Brothers were interested in directing a new Superman trilogy for Warner Brothers. To make a long story short, that rumor was later debunked. And so was the story about Mark Millar pitching a Superman trilogy (it was also recently discovered that Matthew Vaughn was the director who was helping him pitch that - although it never got too far). SlashFilm talked with Wachowski friend James McTeigue yesterday and when asked about Superman, the answer he gave was very interesting. I hate to dig up old rumors again, but there's actually a secondary source on this - IESB. When McTeigue was asked about the Superman rumor, he paused for a few seconds before answering with the following: "You know… I… I would say… I'll keep you guessing, actually. It's good not to dispel every rumor, right?" he told SlashFilm. Is he hiding something with this answer? Well let's see what Robert over at IESB has to add to this rumor. "There is one thing we know for sure, there is currently a very short list of potential directors to bring Supes back to the big screen," he says. "First are the Wachowski Brothers, yep, Andy and Larry. The other name I am hearing is James McTeigue. Here's where things get fuzzy, because I am also hearing the Wachowski's may come in to produce with James McTeigue as the actual director." So there you go - supposedly this isn't just some rumor after all, now is it? Now I'm even wondering if he really is hiding a Superman secret? As we all know, Warner Brothers has been trying hard to figure out how to bring back Superman in a big way. We also know that Brandon Routh's contract has lapsed, so he probably won't be back. And that other article hit a few weeks back about DC Comics revamping their development slate. As I said when the rumor hit back in February about the Wachowski's doing Superman, this is an awesome idea. Not only are they fans of the character, but what they could bring to a new Supes movie would be amazing. Who knows if it's a big rumor that's just blowing up even more or if there is some truth to it. Hopefully we'll find out soon! |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I loved V For Vendetta, but he doesn't have a huge filmography, so he's kind of a wild card.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Yeah, it's a wild card for sure. I'm not saying he's a bad director. He did good work with V for V as a first film. Let's hope Ninja Assassin is better. Beyond who the director might be...Brandon Routh is Superman..just..give him something to say as Supes for Christ's sake!
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I really don't want to see anyone else in the role except for Routh. I think it's silly WB let his contract lapse like that.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
He's looking huge lately, and I remember Paul Levitz saying he is who DC still wants for the movie, so I would guess Routh isn't out of the running.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
^ Agreed.
Also, let him wear a costume that doesn't make me wonder if he was affected by that tar Kryptonite from Superman III. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Here is a manip someone did based on how Routh looks now:
