Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

I wouldn't mind some sort of Supergirl involvement, but the next movie probably isn't very good timing for it. The old Helen Slater movie failed but I don't think an updated one that actually included Superman would be that terrible by default.

I'm not a big fan of Zod and would rather see a new villain. Braniac or Doomsday.

Why? She's not a big villain that needs to be shown. For Supes including every medium and averaging it out it's Luthor, Doomsday, Brainiac, Zod (which would be amazing but...those are some shoes to fill), Darkseid (which would have to be fucking epic of a film) and Kryptonite.

Maybe I'd like to see Livewire as a minor villain to annoy Supes...

I'm so ticked that Brainiac is becoming more and more associated with Krypton and it's destruction. Back in the day (when I was a wee lad), Brainiac's only connection to Krypton was shrinking Kandor. Now he's either Jor-El's computer system or the actual destroyer of Krypton (depending on which show or comic you're reading). Brainiac lasted over 30 years with no real connection to Krypton. Now he's the evil behind everything!

Can't wait for them to reveal that he's Kal-El's brother.

I think Doomsday wouldn't work unless it's part of a trilogy or is used in whatever film universe WB might continue.

It really sucks that the franchise has been so screwed up; it would have been easier to do storylines along the path of DarkSeid, Bizarro, or bottled cities with an established series.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

Bizarro wouldn't work. And Kandor would really be hard to stomach for the general audience. Though Darkseid is easier to grasp while somewhat epic of his nature.

1. Kara
2. Further story of Superman's son
3. Bizzaro
4. Doomsday
5. Bring back Zod
6. Metallo

Using the continuity of the cartoon over the comic would certainly be advisable given the streamlined, modernized storytelling, but it would end up feeling repetitive and dry. They need something new.

Remember, the original Richard Donner Superman movie was groundbreaking for the time. The total changes in characterization in Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, and Superman himself were shocking.

Yes, but then Marvel fanboys would just have more fuel for their argument that the Hulk could beat Superman. Just whose side are you on?!

I honestly don't understand how that has to do with the Hulk (guess i'm missing something here), but make mine Marvel! :)

What Superman sequel needs is more of a focus on the villain, such as with Joker in the first Batman and The Dark Knight.

The only Superman villain that could pull that off and be a totally entertaining movie would be DARKSEID. And the man that deserves to be Darkseid is Ron Perlman. He's a lookalike for Darkseid and he has his voice:

yeah..or just get Micheal Ironside to do it again...

Having just watched Returns again, I say give Singer and Routh a chance to go all Wrath of Khan on it. Minimizing the role of the super-kid would be a good idea, though.

edited b/c I can't spell...

Because the debate of Hulk vs. Superman has been going on for years. Doomsday was essentially a DC version of the Hulk until he was retconned, so it was if DC admitted that the Hulk could beat Superman.

I think everyone just ignores Marvel vs. DC though.

Darkseid should be saved for a Justice League sequel. Maybe introduced during a Superman film though.

Doomsday on the other hand would be a great character for the first Justice League film. He's basically a walking plot device which gives the writers more time to focus on the forming of the League itself. They could do something similiar to the death of Superman story, but change the ending so they 'defeat' Doomsday.

The next Superman movie absolutely has to have Braniac as the central villian, and I have a feeling we'll see Metallo and Luthor as well. DC will go with two villians, I believe, given the feedback to Returns.

I've been saying the same thing to my friends for the past couple of years. Glad to see I'm not alone. :)

Oh... never thought of Doomsday as a DC version of the Hulk.

I thought Solomon Grundy was DC's version of Hulk?

I wouldn't save Darkseid for a Justice League movie, because there's a good chance that any Justice League movie is going to suck.

Kalibak can be played by John Rhys-Davies. If Oliver Reed was alive, I always sort of pictured him as Kalibak when he played Vulcan in Adventures of Baron Manchausen:

No, Blockbuster was DC's version of Hulk.

This thread started three years ago, when is the sequel 2012?

That may be true. But I'm also pretty sure I heard someone at DC say that Grundy's going to be "DC's Hulk". It's been within the last 2 or 3 years.

This news really gets to me, I personally liked the first one. Kinda opens you up in their world even though not much action has taken place and some scenes were pretty slow.

I definitely look forward to this sequel!

That's my guess, too late for next yr I think (unless something happens fast) and I don't think WB would want this out the same yr as the next Batman, which should be 2011...

The next Batman movie is looking more like 2012, so 2011 would be open for Superman. Either way, Superman is likely going to come out in the winter while Batman will come out in the summer.

Brandon Routh hasn't worn Superman's tights for a few years now, but the actor said he didn't envy the cast of Watchmen their spandex outfits.
"I don't have spandex envy," he said at the Hollywood premiere of the superhero film, adapted from the popular graphic novel.
"I stay as far away from it as I can now but my heart certainly goes out to them. I understand what it's like to have to wear these suits for a long time."
Despite his lack of love for Superman's tight outfits, Brandon said he would be keen to play the infamous hero again in a sequel to the 2006 film Superman Returns.
"Warner Brothers are still trying to figure out what they want to do," he said. "I'm sure they are thinking and talking about it every day. When they know I think we'll all know. I'm still interested [in the role]. Absolutely."
