Nobody, but NOBODY turned down a $100million 3-picture deal. Least of all, Josh Hartnett, who has yet to headline a box-office hit, let alone blockbuster.

Given how much money WB was pissing away to get another Superman movie made, them offering a young semi-popular actor $33 million per movie doesn't seem too out there (although I bet the figure was closer to $20 million per movie).

Didn't Nicholas Cage get two $20+ million paychecks without ever shooting a single scene? I seem to recall some rumblings of that back when Tim Burton was slated to direct. The word was the Cage had a pay or play contract but the movie never happened. But then production started up again and they signed him under a new contract. Once again, the movie never happened.

WB isnt going to want to lose Superman, and I don't think DC:E wants to just casually mention theres a sequel coming. I wouldn't be surprised if they are holding the info for next years big reveal, including a sequel to Dark Knight.

The top of the line A-List celebrity talent of the time weren't even getting anything close to $33 million upfront for a picture, let alone $100m for three. I'm talking the Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, and Jim Carrey types in their PRIME. They were definitely interested in Hartnett, but nowhere near $100 million for three pictures. Not even close. $10mill a pic, at best.

I would have liked to have been Nicholas Cage back then. Sure, he probably had to hear a lot of shit about his being cast. But he made a few million to do nothing. Heck, was the pic of him in costume even real? If it was, that's the most I think anyone has been paid for a fitting.

DC-Siegel Litigation Puts New Superman Movie On Hold?

One of the most significant revelations in the aftermath of last week's announcement of DC Entertainment was news earlier this week that Warner Bros. currently has no plans for a new Superman big screen adventure.

"We actually don't have any current plans for Superman," DCE President Diane Nelson recently told MTV's Splash Page, adding, "We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman."

Now it's been revealed that the ongoing litigation between Warner Bros./DC and the family of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel over the rights to the character as well as Superboy is apparently the primary reason why all plans are on hold at the studio.

In an email to the Superman Homepage Wednesday, Warner Bros. Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications Scott Rowe revealed, "Superman is an important member of our family, but because of on-going litigation we cannot announce any concrete plans at this time. That said, at some point in the future, you're likely to see a new Superman. So... have no fear."

Nor was Superman II. It was cool to see him kick ass. No matter what in our time..Superman needs to fight somebody that can hurt him with a fist without the aid of Kryptonite. Saving humans can only go soooo long nowadays. It's kinda boring really. We know he does that all the time...we need to see those special "Oh Shit Supes got his ass kicked by (insert super villain name)!!!" moments.
