I wouldn't have him play a geeky Clark. I think the only reason they had Routh do it that way because Reeve play it that way. I think the Superman animated series always handled Clark incredibly well, and he was never geeky or bumbling in that series.

Hopefully Singer leaves Lex out of Superman Stays(or whatever they end up calling it). The worst thing he can do is bring him back and pair him up with some superpowered baddie. Then it really would be Superman II Redux.

I don't wanna give off the impression that I didn't like the movie. It was a good film, just nowhere near as great as a lot of critics and fans were making it out to be. And it's not in the same league as Donner's film which it clearly drew its inspiration from. But the groundwork has been laid for a grand slam of a sequel(except for the kid, I don't know where they go with that character).

The key is for Singer to come up with some fresh material for the next one. Just like Nolan's under a lot of pressure to not recycle Tim Burton's Batman since he's reportedly using the Joker as the villain in the 2nd film.

Since this film is meant to be seen as a sequel to Superman II, it would have made no sense to make Clark anything but the way Reeve and Donner established him.

One funny thing: In the film, when Clark thanks Perry for getting him his job back, Perry says "Thank [name of Clark's predecessor] for dying!" And the girl behind me gasped and said, "Oh my god, Superman KILLED him!"

I haven't watch any superman movies but saw some parts of it on tv. Before going and watching Superman Returns, I would like to watch the old versions. What is the best version to buy on dvd and where should I start? May someone point me in the right direction?

I think it was a mistake to make this film a sequel to Superman II. I can't judge the film yet, because I haven't seen it. But based on many of the reviews I've read, both positive and negative, they would have been better off just making a new Superman film.

Rent the special edition of Superman: The Movie and the current DVD of Superman II.

Well, that's nice, but you should see it before you decide one way or another. Go into the movie with an open mind.

That is the objective. But admittedly, I've been negative on the casting and the aspect of Superman having a son. Plus my fondness for Reeve's portrayal makes being open minded difficult. But I'll do my best.

Just got back from seeing it In the IMAX 3D. I liked it, I thought Kate Boswith was really good in it, I went in thinking she was a bad choice for Lois Lane. Brandon Roth did a good job of Superman. I really liked Lex Louther and his gang. I didnt like having the kid but wasnt annoying. There wasnt much action or much of Clark Kent at all really. The only real action scene was the Plane scene in the trailers.

I thought it looked awesome in the Imax. the 3D scenes were great but should of done the whole movie in 3D. The part when the Yacht was sinking and they were inside looked AWESOME in 3D. Just wasnt enough 3D stuff though.


Singer did a good job but I think he should of done a fresh start like batman Begins. I didnt like that it was continuing off a 30 year old movie. I think he need more action, kind of like the hulk movie in that there wasnt enough action.

Still a great movie, the imax showing I seen was sold out and when we left there was a line of over a 100 people. Great 3D stuff just not enough 3D and not enough action cast was great. I would give it a B-

That's the best laugh I've had all day. That scores right up there with the genius next to me who whispered to girlfriend, "I think that's Superman's kid!" after the boy pushes the piano accross the freakin' boat.

I was so excited but the end result wasn't that great. Bosworth was highly miscasted, they need Posey to be Lane, Kate was too young. Luther's plot was stupid, much like Magneto's in X1, which this movie structurally copied, I thought.

Routh was okay, but the role was underplayed. FX top-notch.

Superman (78) with a twist. Superkid needs to go for SR2. We need Brainic or Darkseid; I'm sick of Luther after all these Superman movies.

I don't see why some are having problems with others claiming Routh is Superman. It's an opinion, much like everything else in the reviews. And while I love Reeve and what he brought to the character--I even wore my CR Foundation "Go forward" dogtags last night in honor of him--, he had 20+ years of being the only Superman in people's minds. Heck even Brandon said he was picturing Reeve when he was reading the script. Brandon's had one film to do it in, so I think it's a little unfair. But again, to each their own. Like I said, never once did I think Brandon was "channelling" Reeve. He was channelling Superman IMO and did it successfully.

Anyone else think the 2 Corgi's fate will foreshadow the fate of Lex and Kitty?

I saw it this afternoon. My thoughts were this, when the theme came on like everyone else I too got chills, my first two movie experiences as a kid was seeing Smokey and the Bandit in a drive in and watching Superman in an enclosed theatre which was the movie I remember the most of. I was a bit disappointed when a lot of the movie was rehashed stuff from the first one, I didn't realize it was meant to follow the 2nd one but makes more sense now, the acting was well done by all characters and it felt more like a love story then a action flick movie. Overall though I enjoyed it but if I had to choose between Superman the original and Superman Returns I would pick the original it just seemed like both were telling the same story and the original told it a lot better. Thats my 2 cents.

Just saw the IMAX 3D version. First of all, as the last 3D movie I saw in the theaters was Jaws 3D, I would definitely say that the technology has improved just a bit . The 3D stuff REALLY looked great.

As to the movie itself, I do agree with an earlier post that Parker Posey would have been a better Lois Lane. The girl did an OK job, but she was defnitely not as believeable as a hardcore reporter like Margot Kidder was. Spacey was perfect---considerably more evil than Gene Hackman, IMO. Brandon Routh was great, and it was amazing how much his voice sounds like Reeve. Awesome effects and action scenes, great use of music, and a goodly amount of Kryptonian/alien story details. And I was LOVIN' that shot that was right from the cover of Action Comics. I really liked a lot of Singer's choices as to how to shoot the character to emphasize the mythos. I'm a big fan of the first two movies, but I think I liked this one a tad better than either of them.

And on a side note, I really liked the fact that Marsden's character was not just a stereotypical jerk who could be quickly discarded once Superman returned. And heck, I thought this was a meatier role for him than any of his X-Men movies.

I remember reading the first one when it was posted, but I wasn't aware of that Kevin Smith footage 'til today. Great stuff there, and makes me more thankful that we got what we did. Now I know what Jon Peters meant when he said in the Superman Doc "I've been wrong for 12 years". Because indeed he was. Big time.

In terms of continuity, remember that I and II are meant to be a vague history, not the actual canon, or so I am lead to believe. In short, Singer is saying he is using what is convenient for the plot and leaving the rest. Perhaps in this timeline the first one occurred, and Luthor somehow made it to the Fortress before, but they never mentioned Zod and Co. We can also infer that at one point Supes and Lois slept with one another, maybe while he was still empowered, because if they go with the time they slept together after he lost his powers, then she only slept with an ordinary man.

Unless.....when he flipped the chambers powers to the outside at the end of II, the rays destroyed the powers of Zod and Co, but had a reverse effect on his gestating kid. Just a thought!

I saw it on Saturday, and I'm seeing it again this weekend with my wife. I really liked it.

A lot of the negative press for this movie I feel is unwarranted. But I guess some people always disagree. I for one didn't like Spider-man 2, though I loved the first one. I also liked Hulk.
