"A regular alien" is mostly what we've seen since ALIEN and they're based on a human/Xenomorph hybrid. So this one and the Dog Alien in Alien 3 are the only natural variations we've seen.

What if a facehugger impregnates a xenomorph, though?
I remember I had an issue of a magazine (I can't remember if it was Starlog or Fangoria or something else) dedicated entirely to the Alien series when Alien 3 was coming out. Somebody had done a write-up on the alien's life cycle, and included the comment: "In the hive structure, the drones will allow themselves to be impregnated by a facehugger if no other prey is present, in order to make the next generation" or something to that effect, and had a drawing of an alien with a facehugger on it. I always found that one interesting.

Hell of a question. I thought I had all the answers for the Alien films.
It would probably take the traits of the xenomorph it impregnates, since that xenomorph would have traits of the life form it was originally birthed from. Basically looking very similar to the impregnated xenomorph. Does that make any sense?
One thing I do not like about the predator hybrid is that it does not have the long penis/pickle head that the human/dog hybrids have.
I would like to read that article you mentioned, sounds interesting. I do remember reading about the xenomorphs cannibalizing each other to make hives and such. I can buy into that. But I have also read that if a hive loses its queen and there is not an egg with a "super facehugger", that a xenomorph can morph into a full fledged queen. I say thee nay!
Edit: You just made me wonder what a queen would look like if it came from something other than a human?

IT may be just me but I just can't buy into the whole AVP (1 or 2) storyline since they take place in present time. the beuty of the real 'Alien' movies was that they take place far in the future and off world. More or less...
If Predators had been hunting Aliens on earth for thousands of years there'd be evidence found way before the story line of the first movie.
To me, the the AVP films are just continuations of the Predator series (which has sucked since the 1st one) with a cheap Alien tie-in to gain viewership. JMHO.

I thought the release date for this had been pushed to some time in early to mid January, but I just saw an ad last night with a 12-25 release date, and this is also the release date showing on the official site. I'll definitely be headed to the theatre next week to check it out!

Just bumping this up since this opens today. I plan to see it later today. Plus it's nice and short at only 86 minutes.

A friend and I went to see it last night since they had a 12:20 am showing listed on TottenTomatoes.com. A few other people showed up at that time too, and girl at the front counter tried to tell us we were idiots for thinking 12:20 am on the 25th meant there was a midnight showing. We weren't happy about being fooled into showing up just to be ridiculed.
But from the sound of it, we might not have missed much...

Saw AvP #2 today. I don't think it's worse than the last one. It's certainly not much better. There are so many things that could have been done better about it, but it's an enjoyable enough 90 minutes down the drain.

What's so annoying is that it seems easy to understand what the series needs to get back on track, but Fox isn't willing to let anyone involved work on creating memorable characters or a mood of suspense.

To be fair, Jeunet said that he rewrote all of Resurrection, and Whedon said that very little of what he did made it to the screen. But even Resurrection was more interesting than the AvP outings.
