Thank Christ I decided to go with my gut and ignore the majority of negative reviews about this film.

First I have to say, What the Fuck were people expecting....a James Cameron/Ridley Scott masterpiece?

My hopes of ever seeing a decent Alien flick ended long ago with Alien 3 and 4...nuff said.

Spoiler:

Yes, they screwed with the Xenomorph lifecycle, but the film is 86 mins long. 20-30mins on the suspense build-up for the chestbusters would have been a complete waste. We all know what happens when a CB comes in contact with a host.

Yes, the film throws you right in with the PredAlien w/o any backstory. Considering that the fans were royally fucked over by Anderson in the first AVP, why bother reminding them about it?

Yes, the story needed some work, but it's pretty straight forward:

Ship Crash Lands on earth (oh shit!) --> Aliens released (Very Bad!) --> Bad Ass Predator sent to clean-up (Hell Yes!) --> Mindless Violence ensues (Fuck Yeah!)

Overall, it's a kick-ass sci-fi/horror/popcorn fest that's miles above the first AVP.

One last note....

I personally think the red-band trailer and the 5 min tease might have spoiled the fun for some people.

Spoiler:
That isn't even the problem with the xeno lifecycle. The problem is that the predator hybrid can squirt multiple embryos out of its mouth to impregnate people. BULL & SHIT!

Thank you! This film was nowhere near perfect but once one gets over some of that it was a fun ride.

I thought that whole scene was weird too but in the long run it's no big deal.

Well ComingSoon.net posted these movie predictions for the days of Dec 28-30

This Week's Predictions -

1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Disney) - $40.5 million - 11%
2. I Am Legend (Warner Bros.) - $28.0 million - 18%
3. Alvin and the Chipmunks (Fox) - $24.6 million - 16%
4. Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (Fox) - $17.8 million N/A
5. The Water Horse (Sony) - $10.8 million N/A
6. Charlie Wilson’s War (Universal) - $10.6 million +10%
7. Sweeney Todd (DreamWorks) - $7.8 million - 17%
8. The Great Debaters (The Weinstein Co.) $7.6 million N/A
9. P.S. I Love You (Warner Bros.) - $7.5 million +15%
10. Juno (Fox Searchlight) - $5.4 million +59%
Too bad it got beat out by a bunch of stupid chipmunks *sigh*

OT but RottenTomatoes 35% rating of the (possibly still) #1 movie: National Treasure 2 continues to make me laugh. Guess some people don't always go by what others are saying (which is a good thing, make your own opinions dammit!!!)

Why?

Spoiler:

...because the previous films have established the whole Queen/Egg Lifecycle scenario?

It's a fucking Predator/Alien hybrid!!! For all we know, the damn thing could sprout wings and fly

Maybe the multiple embryo loading thing is a trait from the Predator side of the family

I can see the issue. The Alien life cycle, which was pretty well established in the first two films, was severely messed with in Resurrection, AvP, and Requiem. It's obnoxious that they can't just leave well enough alone. There's an elegance to the Alien that these films have lost.

The Alien lifecycle was followed in Alien 3 too for the most part...Alien Resurrection it somewhat followed it, there was just so many time jumps in hte movie.. the cycle still held. (except for the idiotic Newborn stuff, which I think is the root of all these neato combinations we are seeing now - the Newborn sucked when it came out and these hybrids still suck)

The last 2 movies are just plain garbage. The great thing about the cycle is that it gives time to build the suspense, character development with the humans - these new movies don't care to build any character development.

I'm tired of people claiming "its a new form of the Alien" - it can do what it wants!!!! No, it can't. You might as not use the "Alien" from Aliens if you are going to pull these type of rewriting their established lifecycles..its dumb. If its ability to sprout little buggers outside its mouth comes from its Predator parent, well that was never shown in any of the Predator movies either, so I don't know how it could pick that up from its Predator "parent"

Now Aliens did change Alien a bit, but it did not overwrite anything seen in the movie. In fact it played it pretty well within the rules established by Alien..not like Avp or aVPR, which had aliens being born in minutes..its just dumb.

Maybe your theater use a remote and turn up its brightness, but i though it was so dark and tight in its action scenes. Personally, i went in with no expectations, even if i did, it was really low, but was utterly disappointed with it.

In terms of box office, AvPR like its idiotic brother AvP makes all its money in the first two days of release after that - see ya later.

I'm sorry to see the franchises be killed off by this stuff. I guess we will have to wait 10 years or so for a decent reimanging of either one of these franchises......

Of course, the obvious choice for a decent Alien movie is the Derelict ship prequel...but guess that will never come to be either....I guess movies have to have humans of some sort in them.even though by all accounts the human characters in AvP and AvPR were just idiotiic (I haven't seen AvPr - but I can only imagine)

Darkness and rain are the two most-used methods in film to hide shoddy/cheap effects...I'm not surprised the movie is so dark.

Can't comment beyond that, since I have no plans to see the movie. What's that line Bill Clinton used to say? "Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on ME."

I won't be seeing another ALIEN or PREDATOR movie until a REAL director is attached to one.

Unfortunately I think the franchise has been devalued to the point I can't imagine a decent director would attach themselves to an AvP movie.

It's unfortunate that others opinions would even be considered if you know beforehand that it is subject matter of interest. I only need persuasion if I know very little to nothing about a film - director/writer/actors etc.

First I have to say, What the Fuck were people expecting....a James Cameron/Ridley Scott masterpiece?
Not in the least, but something in the middle might be nice for a change.

That's unfortunate too. But why does it have to be this way? I ocassionally enjoy mindless action/sci fi films (i, Robot, Transformers) but when you have such a strong series of films to begin with why mess with it? Move along to something else. At least Alien Resurrection had some decent characters and witty one liners.

Didnt read any reviews. Saw it on xmas day. I liked it. Sure its not great but its a good waste of time watching people and aliens get slaughted by a predator. I will buy it just like the first AvP on dvd.

Well, I wasn't holding my breath for one. It was basically my way of saying I was through with either of these franchises.

William Gibson wrote a script for Alien 3 that fundamentally changed the life cycle, and it was laughable. Let's be thankful Fox didn't opt to go with that version (although it did have Hicks and Newt alive).

I disagree. I don't want to know the backstory on the aliens. What somebody should do is a faithful adaptation of the first AvP comic book, which had great human characters, a lot of action, and would make a terrific movie.

Spoiler:

Well.... the Predator films did not elaborate on the species lifecycle. I guess too much time was spent killing the special forces soldiers and the drug cartels.

If the films are considered canon, then we truly no dick about the Predators and are pretty much in the dark with Predator/Alien hybrids. Christ, Alien(s) established that the humanoid Xenos were afraid of fire. Then along comes Alien3 and the dog/ox/xeno hybrid that's somewhat impervious to fire.

Hell....my imagination can live with the "muliple embryo load" coming from the Predator species.

It's a new fucking organism, so we have no clue what its capable of.

Saw it last night and I thought It was shot way too dark and that definately pissed me as i wanted to see every frame. Having a day to think on it, It was marginally better than AVP but still a fun time waster. Would I have loved for it to have been the most awesome AVP flick ever...abso-freakin'-lutely, but what i got was a mediocre monster movie. I can only hope that this is not the death knell for this franchise as there is so much yet to do. In all I enjoyed it but it certainly could have been much, much better.

Honestly,
Spoiler:
I thought killing the preggos and the kid at the start were both pretty hardcore. The audience I was with was kinda freaked, but in a holy shit that's hardcore", kinda way. Most movies avoid stuff like that.

Spoiler:
IN A1-3, none of the xenos gained the sexual traits of their host. In Res they decided through the human cloning and the addition of the xeno DNA that the queen was able to have a live birth. The whole "her gift" speech. DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Why would the Predator hybrid suddenly gain the sexual traits of a Predator (without the tampering of human cloning) when it doesn't for a human hybrid or a canine hybrid? Again, DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Xenomorph life cycle: egg>facehugger>chest burster>drone/warrior or queen.
Not: egg>facehugger>chest burster>drone/warrior that shoots embryos out of its mouth.
