I think one of the things that i really pissed off about this movie is that i can't figure out what is going on during fight scenes. Its all just chaotic and a big mess. I am still not sure how that hybrid looks like because it was so dark. The whole movie was a mess.

No suspense. None. The Predator looked much better than in AVP. The xenomorph life cycle change involving the predator hybrid is unforgivable. Aliens don't pop up and say boo then stand still for 10 seconds for you to shoot them either. Got to see a nice camel toe though.

I was going to see this tonight, but wasn't in the mood. so i'm going to try to see it either tomorrow or later in the week.

A person on imdb.com hated the film and called it the 'trashiest sequel since Species 2'! That piques my interest since I love Species 2 as the campy trashy exploitative fun flick it is! That film had me doing my best to keep from bursting with laughter in the theater distrupting everyone. That all that built up laughter had me falling on my knees laughing hysterially in the lobby afterwards!

Anyway I decided too watch Alien Vs Predator tonight on dvd, since I have that Predator triple pack that Targets sells. And it was a chore to sit through! Without the end credits, the film runs 90 minutes, but feels like 3 hours!

It's an extremely dull film that nothing can save it. They needed to have more fun with the material. But instead take the material way too seriouslly with a bland boring color/lighting scheme of all dark and grey. Which makes the film dreary and makes me feel sleepy the longer the film goes on. Basically I was wide awake at the begining for the first 20 minutes. Then quickly I felt drowsy, and the not even the not so exciting action bits(what little there were) could wake me up.

So,I hope AvP:R is an improvement in the camp grisly fun department. It appears to have a running time of 86 minutes with credits. So it may cut to the chase and deliver the goods. Instead of bogging it down with some elaborate attempt at 'plot'.

Plot is good, but there needs to be a balance too make the material work in my opinion. And the first AvP failed too find the right balance between a good plot and kickass action monster mayhem. So we'll see if I like the film or not when I see it.

But right now,it can't be as dull as the first AvP from what I've just endured!

Damn. I've been looking foward to this.

Is this comepletely unsalvagable or might an extended cut on DVD fix most of its failings?

I've heard the extended cut is only 6 minutes longer.

You know I saw this today and IMO, it was a little more entertaining than the previous film. More action and more blood and guts.

I did like seeing Reiko Aylesworth in a lead role. I was shocked that they casted Steven Pasquale from Rescue Me as the leading man.

For those who have seen it, I have a question about the end:

Spoiler:

Was that a cameo by Sanaa Lathan at the end? I remember she was the main character in the first film. I really couldn't make out who she was.

No. But then again that film was so dark I could barely make the face out. Anyway, Sanaa's character in AVP1 was named "Woods".
Spoiler:
The woman in AVP2 was named Yutani and if you'll remember, the original company that sent Ripley and her crew out in "Alien" ('79) and who was trying to harness the Aliens for Bio-warfare, was called Weyland-Yutani. I think Yutani was originally a man so it's interesting that they used a woman. Maybe she's just one of the Family members who run the corporation? It's just like how AVP1 had Charles Bishop Weyland played by Lance Henriksen. I gotta be honest, I was half expecting the Soldier chick to have the last name "Ripley". BTW, on the AVP2 page on imdb she's listed as "Ms. Y" and her name is Françoise Yip.

Anyway, I liked AVP2. It wasn't perfect but it was fun and had some kickass kills. I think the film was a bit too dark but I guess keeping it dark helped the Pred-Alien look less goofy.

SAw this tonight. Left unimpressed. The action scenes would have been good... if the directors knew anything about lighting and framing a shot. Everything was way too tight and so dark you could barely make out what the fuck was going on. I was even more upset to see that Daniel Pearl (of TCM fame) did the cinematography and it really wasn't all that great. The script was generic and dumb. Think Freddy vs. Jason dumb. Dialogue was piss poor at best. The ending left me scratching my head. Overall it was better than AVP, but that's like saying it's better than Troll 2. When will someone finally do this film right? It needs a top-name director, a space setting with colonial marines and a $150mil budget. Then we can talk.

Wow. Reading it is worse that AVP1 makes it a no-go in my book. I couldn't stand that movie and this just sounds worse. Oh well.

Goddammit - I was going to us part of my free day today to check this out, since the trailers have continued to make it look awesome.

I cannot believe they fucked it up again.

Hard to believe it's been over 20 years since Hollywood made a decent Alien or Predator movie. From 1979 to 1987 they were as perfect as sci-fi/horror movies get, but those days are long gone. Let's face it, hoping for an intelligent sequel at this point is an impossible dream.

If you go to movies only based on what others say, you'll never go to a theater.

Not saying AvP2 is good, but tens of thousands of people hate every movie.

Really? Because I never go to a movie that only scores a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. But I actually have seen a few movies in the theater this year that scored about six times higher. That way, I don't have to worry about wasting my money.

Build up, scary nature, character empathy, intelligent humor .. all characteristics of the first three films that are completely lost in Requiem.

It seemed to me that all the technical ploys were taken out of every Alien and Predator film before this one and used (more like exploited) to drive Requiem. At least AVP1 channels the concepts in a more interesting way - as bad as that film is.

I went into Requiem with no expectations and sadly ended up very disappointed. I'm not sure I could take a third AVP film.

Question ..
Spoiler:
Why did the predator use that blue liquid to remove every trace of either the Alien's or the Predator's existence? Did it even matter? Seemed like wasted film to me.

i liked this one way more than the first one, PG-13 = auto. fail when dealing with a series like this one. At least this one had the language, the intense kills, and the blood.

If they can get a human cast that isn't full of a bunch of "no names" and fix a few things with the filming then they can hopefully complete the cycle of:
AVP = bad
AVP:R = ok
AVP 3 = better

Sorry, I don't waste my money when people (who seem to share similar interests) don't like the movie..and when the reviews are universally very poor, well then forget it.

I blew $9.50 on AVP and I'm not going to do it again.

I really wish Fox would have rebooted the Alien franchise instead of killing the characters with these god-awful movies...oh well I can always turn on Alien or Aliens and enjoy them I guess.

As to answer your spoiler question...

I guess he was some kind of cleaner, trying to prevent the humans from gaining knowledge of them so they can keep pulling off their hunts.

I liked it but it's still not in the league of each's own series. That said, it's a million miles better that the first. The first got to boggled down with explanation of the Antartica pyramid, hokey human team-up with Predator, and lame fights.

AVP-R just was their here and then fight. Good popcorn, nothing more.

Predators, in almost every version of their story from Video Games, Novels, Comics, and etc have always done some degree of "clean up" of any evidence of their passing. The ultimate clean up method being the wrist bomb that takes out entire areas. If you remember from AVP1 they said that Predators are the reason why some Ancient Earth civilizations are gone today.

To be fair, I always thought the horror, build up, and scary nature of the original "Alien" was ended with "ALIENS" when it became an Action adventure flick with shoot 'em up Space Marines....but that just me.

Between AVP and AVP:R, there's enough material to make one decent movie....one horribly directed movie, but enought raw material to make it watchable.

I did like that the Brothers Strause at least reminded us that Alien/Aliens and Predator were good by lifting little bits from the originals every now and again.

Too a point, true. However in some form these elements returned in Alien 3.

I'm not familiar with any other media format than the films. I sort of drew the parallel about clean up but to be honest, when in AVP2
Spoiler:
it became known that the predator could no longer contain the situation (but enough time was devoted to the process earlier) then either 1) the script went dry or 2) the sole purpose is the maintenance of continuity or 3) the containment dilemma illustrated severity as the story progresses. But for whom, the predator race or humans? Frankly only one predator was killed and the humans did solve the problem. So I can see only #2 being the likely reason and I wanted to be more certain of this. Otherwise it's a waste.

As far as AVP1 goes .. I've never placed any stock into that film.

Agreed. I was gonna mention that but so many hate Alien 3 I didn't want to start a shitstorm. Mind you, I didn't have a problem with the change in Aliens.

Ok, fair enough.
