Indeed. It'd be something if the 3D were used in an interesting way, but whenever I've seen the 3D trailer, it's been rather flat.

I have no interest in seeing this, but I have to admit I like the marketing campaign. Almost makes it look like a good movie.

Maybe that's what it is. I HATE 3D and didn't particularly like this movie but I have a strong desire to see it. Must fight the urge but I want to see Maul on the big screen again.

Re: Phantom Menace to be released in 3D Next Spring

Gotta say I have nephews who are 12 and 10 and was into the SW movies a few years ago, but haven't even asked me to see this after seeing commercials promoting it.

I guess its the difference between my generation and their generation. They've moved on from SW, and I never have as my love of the OT movies has been same since 1977 when I saw them as a 5 year old kid.

Since this is a Liam Neeson vehicle, it's sure to open in the top spot.

Is he still in this? The ads and posters would make me think he was mostly (if not completely) edited out.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for driods, I can tell you I don't have any. But what I do have are a very particular set of Jedi skills; Jedi skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you drop the red light sabre now and walk away from the Sith, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

I must have heard this before but it hit me now. They're doing one movie a year? Awful idea, should be one in spring, one in fall, something like that.

I think the idea is that, if the movies start losing money they won't bother converting any more.

Which, if they're going that route, they should have done IV, V, VI, III, II, I in that order, so you front load the release with the movies people actually want to watch again.

But George thinks people love the prequels, and love all his additions to the OT.

No way would he do the 3 people actually like first.

I'm not a fan of them doing this at all, but the "3-D effect" seems like it is suited more for the The Phantom Menace. I can't think of a lot of scenes in the A New Hope that would come off "cool".

Nor am I generally a fan of 3D conversion or Star Wars, but the movie begins with a z-axis text crawl, opens with a small ship being pursued by a much larger ship along the z-axis, is filled with space panoramas, long halls and tall towers... it has a ton of potential for 3D.

I was thinking more of in comparison to The Phantom Menace in deciding which to do first. That one almost seems like it was made with it in mind.

(Plus you know more people would complain about ANH being changed again, not that the ears would really hear it, but still)

Maybe they'll restore Natalie Portman's erect nipples in AOTC. Some good 3-D potential there.

I saw midnight screenings being advertised around here, I can't imagine many people going to see this at midnight.

You'd be surprised how many people love the prequels despite the apparent internet backlash. I wouldn't be surprised if people still lined up for this.
