Hollywood can vote this movie as the Movie of the Year, but it would not be my choice.
Those are exactly my thoughts. I've seen the movie and I thought it was mediocre at best. A pretty predictable story and I the whole gay theme doesn't do it for me (note that I've nothing against gay people).

I just don't understand why most critics are raving about the movie.

Umm...didn't i make the EXACT same points in the other thread and people said that I was being unrealistic and that life doesn't always have a happy ending...blah blah. I completely agree with what that writer said. I have no idea why this movie is positive for gay people.

hell..did you see Heath and Jake giggling through the SAG awards last night? It's fucking sad. Even they don't take it seriously.

Yeah, for some reason, gay films need someone to die to get their point across. It is unnecessary in my opinion. Next thing you know, Will and Grace will have one of the main characters die of AIDS or hate crime (Jack does get on my nerves ).

Yeah, I saw that last night. Very odd. I think something was up with the teleprompter too....that might have been the reason for some of their laughter.

Lots of people had trouble reading the teleprompter last night. Jeremy Piven was funny though...saying "I can't read".

That was obviously a problem reading it. This wasn't. Or if it was, it wasn't obvious that that was the problem.

Yeah, I felt worst for Peter Graves....it just made him look old.

Its so ironic though....when the actors cant read the teleprompter, some of them turn into the clods they really are. It was hilarious.

I could have sworn that Heath squinted a couple times, but I think they also probably thought the dialog was cheesy. It usually is at those award shows and last night was no exception.

Definately...that was a great movie....that scene at the dinner table was soooo uncomfortable, I was twitching in my seat!

No, as I said "It is not my cup of tea".

There are many movies I have not seen and I do not need to see because Previews/Reviews let me know what the movie was about:
1. Silence of the lambs,
2. The Exorcist
3. Eyes Wide Shut
4. Basic Instinct (Have seen a little on tv)
5. Indecent Proposal
6. Wedding Crashers (wife saw and she said she hated it)
7. Brokeback Mountain

Once again, I do not want to go pay money to watch a movie about a guy leaving his wife for another guy. I do not like to go to movies that make it seem romantic for a man leaving his wife for another woman.

I'd rather go see a movie about a man remain faithful to his wife through the good and the bad (which there are not many movies like that).

Its a safe bet that you will not like this movie then. I had a similar issue with it. Unfortunately, that aspect of the movie disconnected me from the story and main character.

No problem with that. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain either. Probably will sometime, but it wasn't high on my list either. The story doesn't appeal to me either, but it's not wrong to admit that. Julia Roberts romantic comedies don't appeal to me either. I haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust, but again, that kind of movie isn't appealing to me.

Saw this with my wife last night...

I would have to agree that I also have no idea why this movie is considered positive for gay people.

And it's funny to hear that Heath and Jake caught the giggles because that's exactly what happend to us. It was about 35 minutes in-- you know the scene. The one where Ennis rips off Jack's pants and spit-lubes himself then bangs Jack. My wife couldn't stop laughing at that point and it spread to me... and it got worse since I knew I was probably disturbing others (there were about 10 people there). It didn't help when she leaned over and said, "hey, isn't he walking funny, now?". Killed me. Soon after, we were forced to get up (laughing out loud-- had tears running down my face) and remove ourselves from the theater. We regained our composure and sat closest to the door in case we had to leave again. Finished the movie and frankly it wasn't nearly as good as the hype.

I think what really pushed us over the edge was the morning after Ennis banged Jack, Ennis is sitting there when Jack comes up he says, "I ain't a queer, you know." I'm not sure, but didn't Ennis say, "That was a one shot deal", too? I haven't laughed this hard at a movie ever. The closest would have been in Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, but this one takes the cake.

Bottom line is I think the movie would have been much better without that spit-lube scene. Someone should have reigned in Ang Lee on that one. Still would have been just a mediocre movie, but would have been better to imply a lot more on the spit-lube scene.

The tragic part of the story was what these men did to their wives and children. It would have been no different than if Ennis had started up screwing an old girlfriend. It's wrong no matter how you cut it.

Oh yea, and ironically, the theater ran a KY jelly ad before the movie started, too.

All, IMO, of course.

Actually he didn't. He was content just banging the other guy.

Yeah, I was hoping that Oprah would ask a hard hitting question to the cast on her show. Something like, "What do you think the responsibilty to their families was?".

That's a pretty immature reaction, IMHO. What's so funny about two guys having sex? And why exactly would the movie have been better if it weren't there? Because you would've been less uncomfortable? I had a problem with it being such a horribly VIOLENT scene. Not because it was about sex.

Maybe I'll behave the same way next time I sit through a heterosexual sex scene. Wow, she should be walking funny!

Haha, everyone reacts differently...when my girlfriend and I kiss, our gay friends make gagging noises and laugh at us.

Very different situation. Your friends know you and are doing it in a joking way. These people are laughing hysterically (in a mocking way) at two people on a screen. Pretty fucking sad, if you ask me.

True....but if the gay people out there want this movie to get a message across, the homophobic people of America are the type of people that would need to see this. Otherwise, its preaching to the choir.

Why go to the film in the first place if you are going inturrupt other people watching the film in such a foolish manner? By their reaction, I doubt they would gain any insight from the film anyway.

Yes, while extremely rude, I doubt they went into the film thinking they were going to laugh.

Oh really? I have a feeling they obviously were a bit homophobic and didn't expect to actually see two guys having sex. NATURALLY, that would render anyone hysterical.

As I've said before, I honestly don't see this film doing anything but that. To those who are against homosexuality, this film is probably easier to use against us than for us.
