Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I'm not generally against remakes, and have enjoyed a few more than their originals. Unfortunately, this remake is not good in any way. It seemed like nothing had any impact, the characters just went from one place to another, with everything falling into Perseus' lap. The Kraken didn't have a whole lot to do in the original movie, so I had a feeling things were going to go south when it was brought up so quickly in this flick. Worthington was a terrible choice for this film. He's played the same character in every movie I've seen him in, which is fine for a military type, not a half-god.

There was no sense of adventure, no sense of wonder, and no sense of the power of the gods. Zeus doesn't strike me as someone who would say humans were better than the gods, in any sense.

This movie felt like a comedy. When Io said to Persus : "hold your storm" or what not..me and my wife both started to laugh.

The wife and I saw this today. It's not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination but we both found it pretty enjoyable.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Pretty mediocre, and needless remake. The original still holds up imo, as is much better overall. Worthington was awful, Neeson not up to his par, but I liked Fiennes as Hades.

Saw it for free, had a triple feature day due to all of the free movie tickets in DVDs lately. How to Train Your Dragon was the best of the day, with Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans both sucking.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I saw it in 2D yesterday - just an entertaining film. It's just as good as the original film which wasn't that great to begin with as well. I always thought the original dragged on and on regardless of it being the more creative film.

I was a bit bugged by the quick cuts. But at least it had some slo-mo scenes (sort of reminded me of the editing of the Transformers movies as well).

The best scenes in the movie were the ones with Oscar Schindler and Amon Goeth, and the first fight between Perseus and Calibos.

I'm already sick of looking at baby fat Gemma Arterton. There is something flabby about her. But Alexa Davalos is hot and should get more roles.

And I was so happy that kid from About A Boy turned to stone - talk about bad casting! He may be a tall giant now, but I wanted him to be killed so badly as soon as possible so that they wouldn't waste any more screentime with him.

And Mads Mikkelsen kicked ass in the film. I'm now looking forward to see him in Valhalla Rising. It's funny that they made the "why doesn't he ever smile" joke in the movie because if you watch any movie with Mads Mikkelsen, it looked like he never smiled in his life.

Jane March was in this film. Her name is Hestia in the film. Did she have any scenes?

She's also in the upcoming Prince of Persia. I never played the game and know nothing about the story, but just from the trailer, she looks like she's playing the exact same character from Titans. A guide who wears white clothing.

Agreed. I want to attribute my so-so feeling on this movie to the fact that I've seen the original and LOVED it as a kid. I would like to think that if I had never seen Clash of the Titans before that this movie would have been really cool... but I doubt it. The 3D didn't deliver the good either. A couple of times I took my glasses off to see what the picture looked like and it looked perfectly clear; so I think they only did portions of the movie in 3D instead of every scene.

I used my movie voucher to see this tonight...geez, what a disaster of a film! I did enjoy it, in a MST3K kind of way. Made me crack up multiple times, mostly when Worthington yelled incoherently, or when someone took themselves too seriously. So yeah, pretty much laughed the whole time...

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I just got back from a 2D show and I went looking for the piece of shit you guys claimed this film to be and I didn't find it. I'm so glad I'm not married to the original. It was good but I see no reason to hold it up as some untouchable "classic".

I found a fun, entertaining, action and adventure flick with a cool, "Eff the Gods" theme. Sam Worthington may or may not be a good actor to some of you, but he's still a very likable guy. It's easy to pull for him and I can see why Hollywood keeps casting him in these roles.

The sfx were far better than the negative posts here imply. Argos looked amazing and scenes shot in the desert were gorgeous. I had to laugh at the shots at Medusa in this thread because she looked pretty damn good in this movie; far better than I expected. The awesome Kraken had way too little screen time but then again, so did the original.

The actors cast with Sam were also likable. I saw this with a pretty full theater and the audience seemed to like them too as they laughed at all their jokes and humorous scenes.

If I have any complaint it's that they didn't feature the other Gods around Zeus and Hades.

I thought she looked gorgeous.

Robo, I can't believe anyone found Medusa's effects decent. It wasn't Mummy Returns bad, but yikes... it stood out like a sore thumb to me. The other effects like the Kraken or even the scorpions were far better.

Clash of The Titans - 1/5

Waste of my time. Story drags, its a CGI fest (and bad CGI at that) and the 3D was pants. I didn't give a shit about any of the characters, and more importantly, in this sort of film - WE know it's a fantasy but the characters don't - so why don't they seem to feel in any danger? Sam Worthington didnt look like a Greek god, more a rugby scrum-half, and Ralph Fiennes sounded like he was channeling Baron Greenback from Dangermouse or Lord Voldermort.
Awful.

I really wish I had seen the same movie, and I thought that theme was pretty silly actually. Seemed like they were just piggybacking off of God of War 2 and 3, which pulled that off much more effectively.

At least Kratos, despite him being more or less a thug, had some personal reasons to get back at Zeus. This remake just portrayed mankind as a bunch of naive idiots who start defying the gods for no good reason.

EDIT: I was tempted to stand up and cheer when Worthington finally moved his eyebrows. I thought he was going to keep the exact same expression on his face for the entire movie...

It wasn't perfect but I was expecting something far worse. It wasn't nearly as bad as some of you described. She definitely looked better than the RH version in the original. There I said it.

"Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" had a really good Medusa played by Uma Thurman.

It was more or less the theme of the original 80's film. Gow seems to be the piggybacker here....

I'm glad we didn't see the same film.

While there were some tensions between the gods and mankind in the original movie, it had a very different feel. It was more like certain mortals unintentionally offended some of the gods in certain ways, so the gods reigned down some wrath on them. In this version, mankind was purposefully defying the gods in every way possible. Just seemed weird to me after seeing the original again a few weeks ago.

At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to!

Clash of the Titans - 3.5/5

Forgettable stupid fun. I saw it in 2D and thought the effects were well-above average. I've read where Sam Worthington has been getting panned for his performance as Perseus, but I thought he was pretty damn good in this... he portrayed some real charisma and actually looked like someone who could open up a can of whoop ass, unlike fancypants Harry Hamlin who obviously was more interested in getting a pedicure than actually fighting mythological entities. Oh, and it took me about 20 minutes to realize that Draco wasn't played by a slimmed down "The Rock", but instead Mads Mikkelsen. Fienes looked like he was having a helluva time chewing up scenery as Hades, while Neeson's talent seemed somewhat underused as his role as Zeus. All in all, it's a fun time.

Either way Man,whether on purpose or by accident, pissed off the Gods and the Gods smacked them around. I can buy both situations.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

The Medusa scene was so dark I really couldn't see anything (I saw it in 3D) but I did think they did a great job conveying the massive weight of her tail, both with sound & motion of the image...

Has anyone seen this in DBOX yet or read any DBOX reviews for it? I'm going to be in a town with DBOX theaters next weekend and wondering if it's worth the $20.00 ticket price.

Hven't seen it yet but my step-father saw this last night and hated it. He thought it was crap which is strange cause he loves those kinds of movies. Guess I will wait for the blu-ray.
