Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Having watched the original just a few weeks ago on Blu, it is a much stronger film than this hackjob, by far. I'd consider it a classic...

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Caught it tonight. Wow...craptastic is really all I can say. Horrible, start to finish. I don't know that I've witnessed so many mis-cast individuals in a single film before. I'd much rather watch the original on repeat for the next week than sit through this again. Yeesh.

For the record, I thought Sam was great in T4 and Avatar. He was not the right guy here.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

oh I don't know, I knew it was getting varying good/bad reviews, so I went in with expectations lowered. Sure Worthington took the Harrison Ford 'Blade Runner' school of acting tact, good looks, but wooden to no expressions what so ever. The effects I liked notably the whole Kraken ending which looked cool on the huge XD screen at the Egyptian. I had not seen any footage prior to the screening so everything was revealed as it happened - Liam Neeson looked like King Arthur from 'Excalibur' and it would have been cool, if this version of the story had the pegasus spring out of the neck of the deaptiated Medusa - that would have been a neat reveal. The movie also sorely missed the first Kraken scene where Argos was first semi destroyed - the creature didn't need to be revealed fully but a huge wave doing mass destruction could have built somewhat more suspense.

all in all, I'd give it a B-

oh and the music score sucked, compared to the original's which you could easily hum or whistle it

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Saw this again but in 2D - with expectations dashed I could just sit back and enjoy the stuff they got right... it definitely played better in 2D IMO, much easier to tell what was happening during action sequences and I thought the FX looked better in this format. Still wildly uneven but has a few really decent sequences (I'd rate the 2D version 3/5, the 3D version 2.5/5).

^ was the color better in the 2D version? was the 2D version you saw 35mm or digital projection?

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

It was a 35mm print but I thought the colour was much better than the 3D version that I saw.

^ that happened when I saw 'Revenge of the Sith' nearly back to back between the 35mm and DLP, and guess which had better colours - yup the 35mm print, which is odd since Lucas made a big deal shooting Sith 'digitally'.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

This finally showed up at the $4 theater. Went in expecting a mediocre, but fun movie. Left realizing to call it mediocre would be an insult to mediocre movies.

A dull, joyless movie that has none of the charm of the original (which wasn't that great in the first place) and will merely be remembered as another "epic" movie that only bothered to crib (poorly) from the Lord of the Rings films. The only fun came from the all too easy mockery of it's repeated failures.

A generous, 1.5/5

Yep that final comment above me by Boba sums it up perfectly. What a entire waste of time and pile of shit this movie turned out to be. I'm amazed at how bad it really was....yes it really does make the original a classic, compared to this trash it was Gone With The Wind.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Terrible. I caught the Blu this week. Even the effects were awful. A movie like 'Cargo' far exceeds this even at less than a 20th of the budget.

But I like to watch Mads Mikkelson on the screen. So that helped a little, he's fantastic even in drek like this. "Let them know that men did this" What an exit.

I liked Fiennes' take on Hades too. What little he had to work with.

I take it they were leaving the door open for a sequel there at the end. Did this make enough money to make such a horror possible? I checked BOM and it said it cleared maybe 40 million including international.

You must've been looking at the grosses for the original. This one cleared over $163m domestic and $328m overseas for a WW take of $491m.

My expectations were non-existent, so I actually enjoyed this. I thought it was perfect at about 96min or so, it could have been easily bloated.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I finally saw this and don't understand all the hate it got. Even knowing beforehand all that was changed, I really enjoyed the theatrical cut of the movie. It was a fun adventure and wasn't as dry and deadly serious as many had led me to believe.

I'll gladly purchase this on BD. And if they ever release the alternate cut, I'll get it as well.

Maybe I did. Much of the time I could care less about box office numbers and such.

No... I just checked, I was at the right movie I just didn't read the damned thing correctly. I looked at the domestic total and screwed it up from there. You are correct it made millions and millions.

Son of a bitch...

I was reading that screenwriter's blog that had that excellent discussion going this week with a bunch of writers. The writers talking about all the excellent screenplays gathering dust because the studios wanted stupid 'blockbuster' schlock(thanks Spielberg). It was an excellent discussion from that side of things.

And nonsense tripe like this gets a sequel...

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I dunno. A lot of times those "excellent screenplays gathering dust" are steaming piles of shit. Look at Tonight He Comes. For many years this was considered one of the best (if not the best) unproduced screenplays ever written. Imagine my shock upon reading the script that the so-so movie that resulted (Hancock, no less) was a vast improvement over that steaming shitpile.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Seeing this on Blu-Ray, it's actually a bit better. Maybe because the picture quality no longer looks dark due to a stupid 3D conversion.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the image quality was easily the least of this film's problems.

I don't get all the hatred this movie gets. It was a fun movie and it was actually better than the original (which isn't even remotely close to being the classic its most ardent defenders claim it to be).

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I thought it was a LOT better on blu-ray - mostly because I knew it's main flaws. It was just a fun action picture. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

^ What he said.

The original was a childhood favorite, no denying it. But you know what, this is going to be a childhood favorite of someone else the age I was when I saw the original. They're about the same in terms of script and quality , just different time periods.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I must admit - I liked both versions, but with slight favoring towards the original - the bluray though of the remake, the 'maximum movie mode' is downright amazing - it's basically filmmaking technique 101 - the movie maybe flawed, but watching how it was made, made me appreciate it even more.
