Clash of the Titans remake..

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
Saw a 2D showing earlier today. Definitely good have been much better. The film took itself a bit too seriously, which is one of the major flaws. There was no one to root for though. Worthington was very bland, as was the rest of the cardboard characters. I thought the scorpion sequence was definitely the best. Medusa was rushed. Her appearance reminded me, unfortunately, of the awful special effects used for the Scorpion King in the 2nd Mummy movie. ugh. Not only that, the entire scene had 0 tension. The original at least had some of that during her screen time. I did enjoy the Kraken's cameo, but after seeing the trailer, I sure as hell was hoping for more than that.
Lastly, my experience was ruined by a fat ass black lady. Yes, I have no doubt others have been affected by this same creature. Every...single...time....anything remotely interesting happened on screen, I got to hear the word "wow" or "mmm". EVERY FUCKING TIME. Yes, fat ass lady thought we were watching the movie in her house. But no, we were not. We were watching in a theater.
I toughed it out because the film was only 90 minutes. We got there a few minutes before the trailers began, and the seating was limited. I had a bad feeling once we sat down that she was one of those who talked to the screen. Usually matinees are safe, but on Good Friday, I guess anything can happen.

Don't be so hard on her. She clearly thought she was in the new Tyler Perry movie and was very surprised at what she was seeing.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the film is on track to make $25-$30 million today. I'm not sure if that's including the $4.2 million it made from last night's 8, 10 and midnight showings.

"Clash of the Titans" is dull. As a remake of the campier version from the 1980s, it doesn't quite have much of a point of view, all the characters just show up and do their bit, but nothing rings true in terms of motivations, and the script is really an outline to get from one set piece to the next one.
The film is about Greek gods who aren't quite getting the love from mankind they were accustomed to in the past, so Zeus (the big kahuna played by Liam Neeson), along with his brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes looking ridiculous in his wig-piece), comes up with a plan to nudge their subjects into paying the proper reverence and respect to the gods, but as things would happen in the past, Zeus had a dalliance with king Acrisius's wife, the by-product of such a union produced a demigod, Perseus. The king was not in a forgiving mood, and sentenced both his wife and the demigod to death. Perseus survives, is found by a fisherman, raised by the fisherman and his wife, and later would be caught in the middle of the war between man and the gods, where man basically gives the god the middle finger, which was none too pleasing to the gods. Perseus is brought to Argos via a ship on its way back from battling Hades' flying creatures, tasked with smacking down man.
We don't even find out how the people of Argos figured out Perseus could be a demigod, it's like there was a missing reel or something containing that plot point. Anyhow, we are also introduced to Perseus's guiding presence, Io, who ends up serving as a Greek Wikipedia of legend and lore of the Greek gods, Io is such a clunky character/plot exposition device. The film just sputters along, never gaining much in momentum, and the characters don't really elicit any interest from the film's audience, and the pacing is pretty spotty. It's just a boring mess of a movie.
I give it 1.75 stars, or a grade of C-.

Saw it today and was entertained by it. The running time of roughly 105 minutes was perfect and I wasn't bored at all. I'm not going to give the stupid cliched "Popcorn movie" statement. I paid $9 for a matinee and I didn't think it was a waste of time or money. Sam Worthington isn't the strongest leading man, but I thought he did a more than adequate job as Persius even though the character wasn't developed enough for me to care for him. The supporting cast was pretty weak.
My only real complaint was that Medusa was poorly done and looked 100% like a CGI creation. Also, the set with the Gods talking to each other looked really cheap.
I would give this a B-

In regards to the movie itself, this 90 minute puff piece of big budget monsters is what we get when a rich, expertly crafted film like Troy bomb at the box office. I pray this is the result of studio interference and Mr. Leterrier is not a complete idiot.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
They knew he was a demi-god because Hades said something to Perseus about "Zeus, your father" in front of everyone and as soon as he disappeared, they jumped Perseus. Don't know how you missed it? No one has described how the 3-d is "bad" so let me try. It looks like the process made dimensions in places they shouldn't have. It was especially noticable on heads. When Ralph Fiennes is shown the first time it looks like his head is 3 feet from front to back like an Alien. It looks like it took the back part of his head and made it behid the rest. Many times when people were walking sideways (and Pegasus) it almost looked like someone was walking directly behind them becuase it seemed to put their edges in another dimension. I knew it wouldn't be good when the baby's face at the beginning was stretched almost like a funhouse mirror. If they had actually used 3-d cameras it could have been actually good, but this was just jarringly bad with very unintentional dimensional effects.

I tried to see this tonight but there were 2 very long lines to get into the showings. Yeah, fuck that.
I figure if the Negative reviewers are believed by the General Public I'll be able to get right in no waiting.

Just come out of a 2D showing and I couldn't help but think of God of War 3 during the intro but apart from that, the film itself was dull, Worthington seemed disinterested, Ralph Fiennes was laugh out loud funny and the Kraken was underwhelming, as were the scorpions.
1 and a half out of 5 from me.

Deadline Hollywood is now saying Clash did $30 million on Friday, which included the $4 million from the late night Thursday showings. They're estimating $65 million for the weekend. I think it'll be higher than that, unless it has a huge drop today.

I enjoyed it. The thing I appreciated most was that it was a straightforward quest, and they didn't "Take the Stephen Sommers route" -The forced sophomoric humor in the mummy movies make them unwatchable IMHO...

Had fun with it... After reading the reviews around I was less than optimistic, but I guess since my expectations were so low, I ended up enjoying it. It had a campy 2010 feel that I think is missing from movies nowadays, and to that I think it did a good job "recreating" that from the original. Not saying it was great at all, but was a fun hour and half.

It was an ok movie, but boy, what wasted potential. Seems like they could've had a LOTR type of trilogy... but settled on a fairly dull 100 minute movie.
Just a side note, I went to a 21+ movie theater and counted 18 people there. No kids, plus alcohol... a better experience for sure!

Thought the film was fun and I enjoyed it. As some posters here, I felt at times the film took itself seriously, but other times I felt like it wasn't.
The scenes with the Gods meeting at Mt. Olympus made me LOL every single time. Shiny Liam!
Also Gemma Arterton

I went to see it last night. I didn't hate the movie but I was disappointed by it since it could have been much better. It's too bad that I paid extra to see it on 3D since the 3D effects as people stated was one of the worst. I'm guessing that 90% of the people had no idea when they showed Bubo.
Maybe I'm playing too much God of War but I was half expecting Kratos to show up and lay waste to the Gods and mythical creatures
Heck, I think the video game had better writing than this movie if I think about it.

This movie was awful. It was generic, pointless, with bad CGI and confusing action. Sam Worthington couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. All the charm from the old one is gone, but all the flaws have been blown up to massive proportions. Skip it and don't look back.
Couldn't agree more. I hated every minute of this film.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
I have to really slam this remake too (note: I saw the 2D version after reading the warnings about the 3D reprossessed version). The original 1981 movie is very flawed, but does have a sense of adventure in it as well as a few great scenes (ex. in the original, the entire Medusa scene is virtually flawless).
In this remake, they had a real chance to take ideas from the original as well as return to the original mythology too in order to then make a great adventure movie. But the filmmakers just seemed to not care about either the original movie or the original mythology at all, and just want to up the action while cutting down on the character scenes. So the whole thing was akin to watching someone play a video-game and not much more than that because we aren't invested in the characters at all.
And then some of the changes to the story were so dumb, it was head-scratching. The weak humans warring against the powerful gods? Who writes something that dumb, especially when the gods are so clearly powerful??? Perseus not wanting to be a hero? Why? And Perseus not ending up with Andromeda in the end? Huh? That's in both the original and the mythology, so why dump it??? And why is everyone so dirty and grubby in this?
In short, nothing in this movie works and it's just a total mess throughout.

While I'm not seeing actual childhood rapage in this thread I am seeing some inappropriate childhood touching.
It's too bad the reviews are so bad for this film.
