Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

bit of trivia via IMDB:

# Director Louis Leterrier is a big fan of Clash of the Titans (1981), having watched it in his childhood.

# Originally, Stephen Norrington was going to direct the film, but as he hadn't seen the original film he wasn't sure he could make a new yet faithful remake, so in June 2008 he handed the project over to Louis Leterrier.

# Concept designer Aaron Sims considers designing Medusa his most difficult task: "Are they all the same snake in her hair? Do they look more like hair? Are they different in silhouette or in light? And how much of a human face does she have, or is it more like a snake? I worked on one design, and people said it reminded them of Lord Voldemort because there was no nose. You have to be careful so it still looks like it's an original idea."

# Director Louis Leterrier frequently requested that Ray Harryhausen, co-producer and visual effects creator of Clash of the Titans (1981), be involved in the film. However, Harryhausen had retired in 1981 and would not be drawn back.

# Liam Neeson took a role in this film because his sons are big fans of Greek mythology.

# The volcano scenes were shot at the Dinorwic Slate Quarry in Wales. This is a notorious location, used for fantasies like Willow (1988) and Street Fighter (1994).

# An orchestral version of "The Bird and the Worm", a rock song by The Used, was composed for this film.

# James Woods was hoping to play Hades, a part he had previously done in Hercules (1997) but on a more comedic level.

# According to the filmmakers, the mechanical owl Bubo from Clash of the Titans (1981) has an appearance in this film. His cameo scene was widely debated as to whether to keep it in the film or not. It was eventually decided to keep it in the film to please the fans of the original film.

James Woods would have been awesome as a live-action Hades.

Deadline Hollywood had mentioned that WB tried extremely hard to get more 3D screens for Titans, but will end up with several hundred less, due to Dragons and Alice taking up the 3D screens.

I could see this happening later on when we start getting more 3D films popping up and fighting over screen availability.

I SO want this to be a fun movie to watch but reading the early comments at RT it appears to be just the opposite. I will still see it but definitely not waste money on 3D.

After just having finished playing God of War III, I can't help but to hope it'll be in that same vein. Brutal.

It's PG-13, bro. I don't think we're going to see Perseus climbing on Cyclops and pulling it's eye out in a gory manner in this.

I'd TOTALLY be down for a God of War film though...an R rated greek mythology film with gore and violence added with a pretty damn cool story.

Oh no, I wasn't expecting the gore aspect of God of War for Clash - just more of the epic battle type stuff. The parts of Perseus and the Kraken has that feel.

I do wish Hollywood had the balls to go all out with a graphic R Rated film with a God of War film though. Which I doubt. So maybe Clash is what they are settling for.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

As I understand it, the main thing one needs to consider while editing in 3-D is that no single shot can be shorter than 2 seconds. Any shorter than that and the brain doesn’t have time to adjust to the new 3-D surroundings and cannot properly process the information, leaving you confused and a little off balance if you cut away too soon.
Well, that just made me a huge fan of 3D.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Sounds like they should have just let it stay 2D. This is what happens when you rush to jump on a bandwagon.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I had decided after seeing the trailers that I wouldn't be seeing this.

I probably wouldn't go see this if someone bought my ticket and paid me $20 on top of that.

As an asian, having Fiennes and Neeson in the same picture is going to seriously confuse me, as they look alike.

Well, in SCHINDLER'S LIST they put Fiennes in the Nazi uniform and Neeson in the long overcoat, so that must have helped. Unfortunately, they're both playing Gods here, so there's not a lot of variation in costume they can give them. Although, since Fiennes is playing Hades, he should just wear a black cloak and hood or something. Or put him in the Nazi uniform again.

...how? I didn't get confused at all. Maybe if you tried to tell one Jew from another Jew...maybe you'd have trouble.

Thinking of taking my 9-year-old, who's obsessed with mythology right now. Any parents out there taking kids to see it yet? Any real concerns?

Show your 9-year-old JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963). And then the original CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Pretend you're 9 years old and gauge the level of stoked you'd be if your dad took you to see this. There's your answer.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Anyone know the official running time? Fandango.com says it's 118 minutes. Roger Ebert had 106 minutes listed. Movietickets.com lists 110 minutes.
