Clash of the Titans remake..

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
I will check it out, but my expectations have now been lowered. The performances from the actors playing the Gods seem phoned in (much like the original), and the ones playing the humans just look like they're filling time until the next FX sequence with their pretty faces. Again, a bit like the original, but this just seems a bit worse for some reason.

Not overly impressed with the clips (only watched a few) but before Watchmen came out they posted just as man clips, that I thought did not look good, and then in context, totally worked.

It's interesting seeing all the disappointment here.

I'm still looking forward to it.
Did the 2D showings get cancelled?

Not going to watch the clips - I still want to see it, I'm sure it'll be a better movie than the first (which I loved as a kid but let's face it, isn't that great these days) and I will most definitely be contributing to the 2D box office.

I find it interesting how certain movies become so revered due to the test of time. Both this movie and Flash Gordon are ones that I saw countless times on HBO as a kid (even saw Clash in theaters) and as much as I loved (and still to love to an extent) them, I will admit they are not that great. However, I do not feel that is meant to be a pass for someone to do a remake that's crappier just because they feel the original material was lacking.
If Flash Gordon were re-made, even as stupid as it looks and feels (one could actually argue the score by Queen is what keeps the movie from being a failure) , I would not want a "revision" with more bad acting and CG FX with a soundtrack by Lady GaGa (who would of course have a cameo in Ming's court) in its place.
Seems like what they have done with Clash is something that takes the negative aspects of the original (acting, script) and amplifies them while eliminating the one aspect that made it special (Harryhausen FX). Not a good combo.

Just a head's up...TCM will be playing Clash of the Titans preceded by Jason and the Argonauts and followed by The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, this Friday, March 26th, primetime. Nice triple feature!

Not sure what you mean exactly as I thought I made it clear it was keeping the bad acting aspect and eschewing the old school FX for slicker/modern ones.
The acting looks about on par with the original, but what made the original special was how it showcased stop-motion and was the last major movie with involvement from Harryhausen. FX like that have not been used in that capacity since and while primitive, they were a nice throwback. The FX in this look like the same you see in just about every blockbuster nowadays; CG creatures and disasters.

I just got back from seeing this at a press screening and I thought that the movie was terrible. They took everything that people remember from the original and remade that, removing any hint of mythology or character. The 3-D is terrible as well. I know that the movie wasn't shot for 3-D, but having adds nothing to the movie.
The only good thing that came out of this screening was I got to meet Roger Ebert. That was great, this movie is not.

Meh, I don't care. I'm still going to catch a 2d showing. It may suck for me, it may not.

He was not using any type of voice thing. He shook my hand a few times, listened to what I had to say, then gave me the thumbs up. I thought he was classy and incredibly nice. He could have just blown me off, but he stopped and seemed happy the whole time.

I'm still gonna go see this in 2D. It looks fun and, although I love the original to death, it's hardly the classic the kid in me fondly remembers.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
^My local theatres are only showing the 3D version on Thursday night - so I'll be checking that out first. If the movie isn't terrible, I'm going to try and catch a 2D showing sometime after that.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
I think there's a chance that because the decision to make this 3D was last minute, a lot of theaters booked what few RealD capable screens they had with How to Train Your Dragon (can't say I blame them). I know a lot of the chains that are predominantly in small cities (like Cinemark) only have two digital projectors tops.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..
looks like the white Marsh theater is showing this twice on thurs. 8 and 10:50 in 2D. I assume (i haven't been following this thread hardcore like most) that the movie is really meant to be seen in 2D, as the 3D was a last minute decision
