Although I kind of stand with Alan Moore (who says there's no need for a Watchmen movie), I'm intrigued -- Snyder certainly is a fan and the movie is looking fascinating. But please GOD, don't have any of that fast-slow sped-up action bullshit that ruined 300 and is littering this trailer. It's the tackiest played-out crap and looks like something out of film school 101, Watchmen doesn't need it.

I have rewatched this trailer so many times - I haven't been reminded of such a good trailer like this since seeing the trailers for The Matrix, Donnie Darko, Dark City, The Fountain, and The Fall. The Watchmen trailer actually looks like a film that could have been directed by Proyas, Aaronofsky, or Richard Kelly.

I can understand now why D.C. doesn't have too many more superhero/graphic novels on their slate. There really is no need for them to make more D.C. movies after The Dark Knight and Watchmen - Quit while you are ahead!!

Although I haven't been fans of these two actors - Ledger and Crudup - I think The Dark Knight and Watchmen are going to be the two movies in which I will gain total respect for these two actors.

Total agreement. I'm going to reserve judgment until I actually see the thing, but yikes, that slo-mo/speed-up stuff has me worried.

I thought the slow motion in 300 suited the content just fine, but I wouldn't care for it in Watchmen.

They tried extremely hard to get the 300 vibe in this trailer. (mini-music video with a deep bass remix, silent with images and some slow mo and a comment or two.)

It should be fun, I hope.

You didn't like Crudup in Almost Famous or Big Fish? You're a tough crowd all by yourself.

Its a little late if you're just now gaining respect for Ledger.

3 hours is way too long. Anything more than 89 minutes and you're asking for trouble.

Yeah, The Watchmen is already a long book that needs to be condensed down to a two hour film.. no need to waste any more time on bullet time slow mo effects.

You know, at the very least Zack Snyder gets the source material. That song in the trailer is The End is the beginning is the end by the Smashing Pumpkins. It's from the Batman and Robin soundtrack and was only ever found on that and its own singles. So its selection has some meaning there.

What made Watchmen great was that it was written by Alan Moore that satirized the ridiculous nature of 1950s-era Golden Age comics. Not to mention Alan Moore believes in a sort of snake God and is all sorts of crazy.

So Zack Snyder is in his own way satirizing the ridiculous nature of 1990s era comic book films. You can see Ozymandias' costume gets the Joel Schumacher Batman nipple costume update in his chest armor. You have a song from the Batman and Robin soundtrack playing in the trailer. What you get from this is a film done by a director who understands the subtle satirical nature of the source material and giving it a modern twist to it. Simply brilliant.

Hell, even Rorschach's hot flamethrower action uses not just any spray, but Veidt brand hairspray. You have to love that level of detail.

GRRR,
nope, I haven't really been amazed with him in any of his movies since he appeared in Sleepers.

RONNIE DOBBS,
same goes for Ledger, I have seen most of his movies, and I probably liked him most in 10 Things I Hate About You.

When I watched the trailer, all I could focus on was THAT DAMN song.
Don't get me wrong. It's a very good song. But I kept thinking 'why would you want your movie to be associated with ANYTHING from Batman & Robin?'

So thanks for putting it into perspective...makes sense now.

/halfway through the book.

using the song again to create a postive impression/association, instead of the negative one left after Batman and Robin...

SO..I just got the new EW with Watchmen on the cover. It has some cool new pics and a very nice article about the film.
SOme key info:
*It really is rated R
*Snyder's cut is currently 3 hours long but Warner bros. Picture Group president Jeff Robinov says what might end up being the realistic final cut is 2 hours and 25 minutes. Snyder: "I keep telling them, 'Guys I can't take this out!' "
*A title sequence set to Dylan's "The Times They Are a-Changin' " will incorporate the history of Watchmen.
*The "catastrophic climax" is different from the graphic novel
