AICN doesn't always have the right scoop when it comes to movies.

Yeah, I'll believe this when it's actually confirmed. This is the same website that had an article that had him as the director of the new Batman movie.

Like, Daredevil, this falls under the category for me, of comic books I love but NEVER EVER want to see made into a movie. It just doesn't translate well into a movie. The story is WAY too rich, & complex to be made into 1 movie that could do it justice.

Is Hayter finished with any drafts of the script?

Also, Darren was supposed to adapt Batman: Year One, a straight adaptation of Frank Miller's comic, but said he'd do it after he finishedThe Fountain (though Brad Pitt's spanner in that movie's works held up his schedule a bit). AICN wasn't the only 'news source' reporting that, you can do a search.

It's only April, and we already have our UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR.

I also noticed it said that this will happen after Aronofsky finishes The Fountain. Is that still going ahead since he's lost Brad Pitt? WB put the kaibosh on that a while ago even as sets were being built in Australia, didn't they?

A Watchmen movie would have been interesting, but I believe that the time for it has come and gone.

I imagine it'll be updated. So I'm figuring everyone'll be afraid of Terrorists rather than the Russians. But I wonder if it'll still end with .

And that's the damn_truth... Doesn't matter who makes this one, there's no way to make it translate to a 2 hour film... No. Freakin. Way.

When I saw the thread title, I thought to myself "No. Stop. Don't."

When I clicked on the thread and saw who was supposedly directing, I thought to myself "Well, that's not entirely bad..."

When I realized that this film will never [and should never] get made, I stopped thinking to myself...

That's because he was going to. More then a few places had him tabbed to direct a Batman movie, but it looks like WB went a different direction.

I've always wanted a Watchmen movie, but I just think it's a bad idea now. The time for good comic book movies has come and gone, and all the new ones are just studios cashing in on the success of Spiderman and Xmen so they can kill the genre and move on to whatever's next on the bandwagon. If they're making it because they really love the story and all that, then great, but I highly doubt it. Alls they see is dollar signs.

What exactly is Watchmen?

One of the best 'comics' ever. It delved into the lives, motivations and consequences of being a superhero. A miniseries would be hard pressed to encompass all of it. There's no chance that a 2 hour movie will even come close.

A really cool comic about a group of guys that have magical Swatch watches that give them superpowers. It's one of the classics;)

Burt Reynolds as The Comedian would be great.

Bad idea. This wonderful comic would never work as a two hour movie. A mini series on HBO or something might be possible but not a movie. I would hate to see what is one of the best comics ever written turned into a bad movie.

It sounds promising, but the only way to do it any justice would be an HBO type miniseries.

Terry Gilliam is the only director I would want to see to do this, since he was dedicated to keeping the comic book intact, and would only do it if he could do it as a 12 movie at the very least.

I would like Aronofsky to get another film going, but I doubt he could make a go of it with this project. I think Gilliam has said the only way Watchmen would work is as a 10-hour mini-series with a $100 million budget. I guess HBO would be the only station to take that on.

I hope he makes extensive use of his hip-hop editing. ;)

I'd love to see a good version of this, but I'm doubtful that it can be made into a good movie.

Great book. It about time I take it off the shelf for another read.

Long way from now to the Fountain to Watchmen.

Believe it when I see it.

I can't wait for when the movie finally hits screens, and I can read Harry's review, prefaced by his tale about how he suffered from chronic diarrhea one Winter and by reading Watchmen on the can, he was able to overcome his dibilating disease and that Watchmen has held a special case in his heart ever since. After all, how many of these latter-day poseur fans can brag that Watchmen has healed their bowels?
